Jeff Tweedy of Wilco - Boulder Theater's 75th Anniversary Kick Off!

The Boulder Theater is proud to announce two special performances with singer, songwriter and guitarist Jeff Tweedy on January 7th and 8th, 2011.  These concerts celebrate opening weekend of the 2011 concert season, and will be the first in a series of events commemorating this cultural institution’s 75th Anniversary.

As the founding member and leader of the ground-breaking American rock band Wilco and co-founder of the alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, Jeff Tweedy is one of contemporary American music’s most accomplished artists. Since starting Wilco in 1994 Tweedy has written original songs for seven Wilco albums, sold millions of records worldwide, won two Grammy Awards, and earned rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Wilco’s latest studio album, 2009’s Grammy-nominated Wilco (The Album) landed on many critics’ lists as one of the year’s best albums and Rolling Stone magazine cited Wilco’s 2002 album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot as the 3rd best album of the decade.

While maintaining a full schedule of recording, releasing albums and touring extensively with Wilco, Tweedy has also toured frequently as a solo artist, playing intimate unscripted acoustic sets that draw from his 400-plus song repertoire.  A departure from Wilco’s carefully orchestrated, sonically complex performances, the solo concerts showcase Tweedy’s prolific output as a songwriter, his proficiency as a guitarist and his wry sense of humor.

Tweedy’s most recent work includes the launching of Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, MA and producing soul and gospel legend Mavis Staples’ latest release, the 2010 Grammy-nominated You Are Not Alone.

Come celebrate the Silver Anniversary of The Boulder Theater, which opened for business on January 9th, 1936 with a screening of the Paramount Pictures film, "A Bride Comes Home".

Tickets are on sale at Boulder Theater Box Office. Call (303) 786-7030 for tickets by phone.  Tickets are also available through the Boulder Theater website @ www.bouldertheater.com.

Bobby Long Announces 2011 Tour Dates

British singer-songwriter Bobby Long will begin 2011 by embarking on the first leg of a North American concert tour in support of his long-awaited recording debut, A WINTER TALE, from New York-based independent label ATO Records. The collection of 11 original songs, produced by Grammy®-winner Liam Watson, will be released on February 1, 2011.

Long, who now makes his home in New York City and perhaps is best-known as the songwriter behind "Let Me Sign" featured in the blockbuster film Twilight, has cultivated a devoted fan base through non-stop touring in the United States, Canada and Europe.  Known for a repertoire deeply rooted in American folk, blues and country music, he will return to the road with a band of crack musicians to fully bring his gritty, powerful material to life on stage. As the San Diego Entertainer described it: "All his songs are like a well-orchestrated ballet of chord progressions and vocals that pluck at the deepest confined thoughts of your soul."

The special edition 5-song vinyl EP called STRANGER SONGS that was released in November as a preview of the forthcoming CD has already sold out of its initial pressing. Comprising three tracks from A WINTER TALE plus two bonus tracks, it reached #1 on both the CIMS Vinyl debut chart and AIMS debut chart compiled by independent record stores nationally. A second pressing will be available for the holiday season.

Confirmed BOBBY LONG tour dates are as follows:

January 28-Media Club, Vancouver, BC; 29-Tractor Tavern, Seattle; 31-Doug Fir, Portland; February 2-Café DuNord, San Francisco; 3-Troubadour, Los Angeles; 4-Anthology, San Diego; 5-Club Congress, Tucson; 8-Kilby Court, Salt Lake City; 10-Bluebird, Denver; 11-Bottleneck, Lawrence, KS; 12-Old Rock House, St. Louis; 14-High Noon Saloon, Madison, WI; 15-Triple Rock, Minneapolis; 16-Turner Ballroom, Milwaukee; 17-Radio Radio, Indianapolis; 18-Schuba's, Chicago; 19-The Basement, Columbus; 21-The Ark, Ann Arbor; 22-Revival Bar, Toronto; 23-Divan, Montreal; 24-Higher Ground, Burlington, VT; 25-Portland City Music Hall, Portland, ME; 26-Brighton Music Hall, Boston; 28-Iron Horse, Northampton, MA; March 1-Otto Bar, Baltimore; 3-Bowery Ballroom, New York City; 4-World Café, Philadelphia; and 5-Jammin' Java, Vienna, VA.  Long will also return to the SxSW Music Conference in Austin, March 16-20.

The second leg of the tour will follow with planned dates in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic to include cities such as Charlottesville, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Nashville, Cincinnati and Atlanta.  Additional dates will be announced shortly.

Bobby Long To Release Debut Album "A Winter Tale"

British singer-songwriter-guitarist Bobby Long's anticipated debut studio album A WINTER TALE, produced by Grammy-winner Liam Watson (White Stripes) will be released February 1st, 2011 on ATO Records.
Currently residing in New York City, the 24-year old Long has been writing finely-crafted songs since taking up the guitar at age 17; from then on he’s been creating memorable songs inhabited by hauntingly poetic lyrics.  After relocating to London from Wiltshire in the countryside of South West England, he became a fixture at London’s open-mic nights while attending London Metropolitan University where he studied Music in Film and wrote his thesis on The Social Impact of American Folk Music.
Bobby quickly established himself on the local open mic circuit, finding his voice and beginning to develop songs characterized by catchy melodies paired with elusive, imaginative lyrics. As Long became more entrenched in London's burgeoning open mic circuit, he met actor and fellow musician Robert Pattinson, who would go on to sing “Let Me Sign” (co-written by Long and friend Marcus Foster) over a crucial dramatic scene in the blockbuster film Twilight. The inclusion of the song in the film’s soundtrack gave Long a head start on a legion of fans. It is Bobby Long's intensely personal songs, vocal prowess, and heart-wrenching soulfulness that resonate with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, creating a loyal following through constant touring over the past two years. In 2009, Long played 160 shows in seven months in seven countries.
A WINTER TALE merges band power with acoustic rawness, featuring Nona Hendryx (LaBelle) on backing vocals on "Penance Fire Blues," B. J. Cole (Elton John, Sting) on pedal steel, Icelandic singer Lay Low on several tracks, and other top-drawer musicians. And by way of continued extensive touring, Bobby Long will be bringing A WINTER TALE and what has been called his "tapestry of tales" to the ever-growing audiences seduced by his compelling voice, musicianship and charm. Bobby will be headlining a US club tour January - April 2011, dates are TBA. Be sure to check out the exclusive Burberry Acoustic performance of "Dead & Done." The studio version will appear on the forthcoming album.

Upcoming Deerhoof Tour Dates + New CD

Remember what it was like to turn 16? No one could tell you what to do. You were a force to be reckoned with -- filled with the undeniable feeling that you could take on anything and win.

Deerhoof has now reached that fateful age and by rites it’s their turn to go out and challenge the world. And so, right before they began recording, Greg Saunier, Ed Rodriguez, John Dieterich, and Satomi Matsuzaki just up and split from San Francisco (the only home they’ve ever known as a band) and left behind all notions of what a “Deerhoof record sounds like.”

Self-recorded, mixed, and mastered in rehearsal spaces and band members' basements with no engineers or outside input, Deerhoof vs. Evil dresses up Deerhoof's well-known recklessness in a newfound elastic groove -- one flled with big-hit choruses and exuberantly unfamiliar colors.

The musical equivalent of hormones raging out of control, the record explodes out of the speakers with its gawky triumph and inflamed sentimentality.

This is Deerhoof's ode to their own adolescence. This is Deerhoof vs. Evil.
