The Motet: Funk Is Dead @ Boulder Theater

Z2 Entertainment is proud to present The Motet:  Funk Is Dead Performing the music of the Grateful Dead at the Boulder Theater on Monday, October 31st. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 17th at 10:00am.

The Motet is extremely excited to announce that for Halloween 2011 they will be paying tribute to the music of one of the most influential rock bands of the last 40 years: THE GRATEFUL DEAD!

How does the Grateful Dead’s sound fit into the energy and vibe of a Motet Halloween show?  They will be taking the challenge of reworking those epic and timeless songs with the energetic afro-funk grooves that you come to expect from The Motet…..hence the title “Funk is Dead!”

In addition to the slamming rhythm section of Dave Watts (drums), Garrett Sayers (bass), Joey Porter (keys), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), Scott Messersmith (percussion) and Dan Schwindt (guitar), they will be bringing in 3 of their great vocalists:  Jans Ingber, Paul Creighton and Kim Dawson.  Also, they will be showcasing a trio of horns (who’s ever played the Grateful Dead with a horn section?!):  Gabe Mervine (trumpet), Matt Pitts (tenor) and Pete Wall (bari)>

The boys are certain that these are going to go down in Motet Halloween history as some of the most exciting and creative shows they have ever put together!! Make sure to get your tickets soon so you don’t find yourself at the concert with your finger in the air looking for a funky miracle!

Jake Hertzog New CD + Miles Café Appearances

Jake Hertzog, one of the most original and exciting young guitarists on the scene, will be returning to the studio next month to record his third album. At 24 years old, Jake has already released two critically acclaimed fusion albums, toured the country as bandleader for Nickelodeon pop-stars Nat and Alex Wolff, and currently writes a jazz column for Guitar Player Magazine entitled “Hey Jazz Guy”.  He was also the youngest ever winner of the Montreux Jazz Festival Jazz Guitar Competition in 2006 and has performed and taught worldwide.

The upcoming record, a follow up to last year’s Patterns, will feature Jake’s all-star rhythm section, Victor Jones and Harvie S.  Harvie will also be taking on a new role in addition to bassist on this latest project as producer. “I am thrilled to be producing Jake Hertzog's upcoming CD- Jake is a serious and original artist who is becoming a major voice in contemporary music. I have been a part of his music from his first project as bassist and musical colleague --so this project holds special meaning for me.” Said Harvie, in regards to the upcoming collaboration.  In addition to hundreds of records on which Harvie has played bass, his production credits include Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, Chris Potter, Bob Mintzer, and Mike Stern.

Jake will be bringing his trio into one of New York’s most impressive recording studios, The Magic Shop, that has hosted artists such as The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Norah Jones and Arcade Fire.  “It’s the perfect place for the synthesis of jazz and indie rock”, says Hertzog. “That’s what this record will be all about, continuing more deeply in the direction of the last two albums.”  The Jake Hertzog Trio will be in the studio next month and the record will be released in late spring.

Performing with the venerated rhythm section of Harvie S (bass) and Victor Jones (drums) the Jake Hertzog Trio bends genres with their exhilarating live performances. This is an event not to miss, as the band prepares for their third studio album.

"Jump, Jive, an' Wail" from the Brian Setzer Orchestra's 'It’s Gonna Rock... 'Cause That’s What I Do' DVD, out now from Surfdog Records, got 150,000 people out of their seats when it was recorded during a headlining BSO set at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

The song, a 1956 hit for Louis Prima, has been in the BSO repertoire since 1998, when it earned a Grammy® Award for Best Pop Performance. The version on the DVD features a stinging Gretsch guitar solo by Setzer, high-energy bursts from his leopard-print tuxedo-clad horn section and his sequined backup singers, and 300,000 waving arms.

Brian Setzer's "Christmas Comes Alive!" CD is also out from Surfdog Records now. A collection of 15 amazing holiday tracks performed live in concert as only the Brian Setzer Orchestra can do it, the single-disc offering is packed with music that is, according to Billboard, "guaranteed to get your Christmas party on its feet!"

David Malachowski & The Woodstock Allstars

The Woodstock Allstars is a revolving group of world-class musicians and friends who have played together in various combinations and configurations, but never all at the same time. What results is an intriguing, compelling blend of blues played with a jazz sensibility and rock stance. The name is borrowed from a friend; the late Artie Traum.

Led by venerable guitarist Malachowski (Shania Twain, Savoy Brown, Commander Cody) the Woodstock based band features some of the best musicians in the world. Bassist Graham Maby and drummer Gary Burke are thought by many to be the definitive Joe Jackson rhythm section, and it was Burke, Maby and Malachowski (as leader) that formed the core of the Shania Twain Band in the mid-nineties seen by millions. Burke –now with Professor Louie & the Crowmatix-was on Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Tour, and in the Rick Danko Band, Maby has also played with Natalie Merchant, They Might Be Giants and Joan Baez.
