Bonobo (DJ Set) at Fox Theatre | 9/30/11

Z2 Entertainment is proud to present Bonobo (DJ Set) at the Fox Theatre on Friday, September 30th.  Tickets go on sale Friday, June 24th for $22.50 in advance and $25.00 the day of show.

Over the last couple of years, Bonobo has become one of the premier artists on the Ninja Tune imprint and certainly one of the most listened to, with over 16 million plays recorded on LastFM. His combination of superb live shows and studio wizardry means that he is now perfectly placed to push on into a yet bigger league. With “Black Sands,” Bonobo has made the record to achieve it.

Green’s first release came on Luis’ label, Tru Thoughts, when his track “Terrapin” was included on the compilation “When Shapes Join Together” in 1999. His debut album, “Animal Magic” followed the next year, completely self-produced and largely self-played, too. Hailed as one of the “new downtempo pioneers,” Green found himself attracting the attention of other labels and eventually signed to Ninja Tune.

In 2003 he released his first album for the label, “Dial ‘M’ For Monkey.” This was a time when Green was also focussing heavily on his DJing, playing banging dancefloor sets of hip hop, funk and drum & bass up and down the country and across Europe, a period which reached its apogee with the release of the mix album “Solid Steel: It Came From The Sea.”

“Days To Come” followed in 2006, Green opting for a lusher, more live sound than on his earlier records. To tie in with this musical development, he put together and rehearsed a live band that could bring the music of his records to life. As a result he has moved from selling out the Luminaire to selling out Koko to selling out Kentish Town Forum and the Roundhouse and producing the live DVD to prove it. “Days To Come” also scooped the Gilles Peterson listnerer’s poll for Album of The Year.

Madeleine Peyroux at the Boulder Theater | 4/13

The compelling vocalist and songwriter Madeleine Peyroux will reveal two tracks from her recently completed new album with digital EP available everywhere on March 29. Helmed by noted producer Craig Street (Norah Jones, k.d. Lang, Cassandra Wilson) and featuring Marc Ribot on guitar/banjo along with Me'shell Ndegeocello on bass, Peyroux's latest sessions signal a new approach for the musician as she carries her jazz sensibilities into rootsier territory.

The EP includes a gorgeously melancholic folk rendition of The Beatles' "Martha, My Dear," and the eerie, intimate new original song "The Things I've Seen Today," which Peyroux co-wrote with vocalist/violinist Jenny Scheinman. In addition to contributions from Ribot and Ndegeocello, the tracks feature drummer Charley Drayton (Neil Young, Johnny Cash) and guitarist Chris Bruce (Seal, John Legend). These core musicians appear throughout Peyroux's forthcoming album, 'Standin' on the Rooftop,' which consists mainly of her newly written songs.

Peyroux will hit the road in April to preview more songs from the anticipated new album 'STANDIN' ON THE ROOFTOP,' due out June 7 on Decca Records. See below for full tour dates.

Peyroux's 2004 album 'Careless Love' was a major breakthrough, reaching Gold status in the US, selling over two million copies worldwide and landing on numerous top-of-the-year lists. Known as a gifted interpreter of material from the jazz canon to Bob Dylan, with her last album, 2009's 'Bare Bones,' Peyroux found her voice as a songwriter. The New York Times noted that Peyroux "has branched out to refine an enigmatic, low-key personal style that is all her own."

More details on the new album will be announced soon.

The Wailers and Duane Stephenson: Two Reggae Powerhouses in Aspen

The Wailers, the world’s most celebrated reggae group in the world, are getting back to their roots with their new 3-singer line-up when they embark on their 2011 U.S. Tour.  The new line-up includes Yvad, Koolant and Danglin as well as original member and the band’s musical director Aston “Familyman” Barrett. The band will be using the tour to bring attention to their new single “A Step For Mankind“ which was written by Duane Stephenson specifically for the World Food Programme.  They will be donating unused funds from the band’s hospitality riders directly to the United Nations’ World Food Program to help stop world hunger.

“A Step for Mankind,” recorded in Jamaica specifically for Oniric Records’ Solution for Dreamers: Season 3 is the band’s first studio song in more than 16 years. The band has been supporting the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) efforts to eradicate hunger throughout the world.  The new song calls for world unity and strength to support the ongoing struggle against world hunger. The band is joined on the track by the Wailers’ new singer Koolant, a fresh talent from the heart of St. Thomas known for blazing a positive future for reggae music with his work. The track also introduces Dr Dre protégé Bishop Lamont, an up-and-coming rapper, who contributes a magical flow in the track’s breakdown.  Graced by the Wailers’ undeniably distinctive groove, “A Step for Mankind” is a small taste of more music forthcoming from the legendary group.

Formed in Jamaica in the late 1960s, The Wailers are one of the most successful reggae bands of all time, selling 250 million albums, and playing live to an estimated 24 million people worldwide. Wailers’ bass player Aston “Familyman” Barrett is recognized throughout the world as the architect of reggae.  A revered innovator, he joined The Wailers in 1969, quickly becoming singer-songwriter Bob Marley’s right-hand man and musical director. On record and on stage, his inimitable style became an essential part of the Wailers’ sound. Following Marley’s death in 1981, “Fams” took the reins as the band’s leader, spearheading performances to adoring crowds the world over, as well as the band’s involvement with the fight against global hunger.

Duane Stephenson recognized one of reggae’s most talented sons, is promoting the release of his latest album, “Black Gold”, and is joining the tour as special guest. This is Stephenson’s sophomore album, following the top-selling “August Town”.  He is also the writer behind “A Step for Mankind” which he will be performing on tour with the Wailers at each performance.  His new 15-track studio album with 14 original songs and is riding high in the charts sees Stephenson working with legendary reggae producer, Dean Fraser, the mastermind behind the majority of production on Black Gold.

Black Gold encompasses Stephenson's growth mentally, emotionally, and musically. From ballads to roots reggae, his musical skills and heartfelt sentiments on this album will resonate with reggae fans and be sure to gain him new ones. Such is the quality of Black Gold , Steve 'Flash' Juon of Rapreviews.com raves that “...so powerful is his vocal tone and the diaphragm which pushes it out over the microphone that almost every word will make perfect sense to even the most jaded listener who thinks they can't understand Caribbean music...”

Formed in Jamaica in the late 1960s, The Wailers have gone on to become the most successful reggae band of all time, selling 250 million albums, and playing live to an estimated 24 million people worldwide. The Wailers’ leader and musical director Aston “Familyman” Barrett, helped forge the template for reggae with his booming, thunderous bass patterns. But more than just a bass player, Family Man was also the right-hand man of former band leader Bob Marley. He also played a large part in arranging Marley’s songs and co-produced a number of the late icon’s albums and even taught Marley how to play guitar. This year celebrates Familyman’s fortieth year with The Wailers.

“For more than forty years, The Wailers have been about spreading a positive message to our audiences,” says Fams. “With the World Food Programme’ campaign, we want to get the word out beyond the audience – so even if these people can’t feel it musically, they can feel it spiritually. I can’t think of a better way to give thanks for forty years in the Wailers than giving back to the people.”

The Wailers continue their relentless touring schedule bringing their message of peace and “one love” to their audiences worldwide.  They will be spreading their message throughout the U.S. in 2011.

“A Step for Mankind” is available at iTunes with ALL proceeds from the song going towards the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) to help stop world hunger.

Jason Aldean's Party Goes PLATINUM!

Just eleven weeks after its release, Billboard’s 2010 Top Male Country Artist Jason Aldean is celebrating PLATINUM certification for sales of one million copies for his fourth studio album MY KINDA PARTY.  The 15 track disc becomes Aldean’s third career PLATINUM album and brings the country rocker to five million total albums sold since his debut five years ago.

"I just can't say enough about country music fans and the amount of loyalty they have for their favorite artists," said Aldean. "To think that a million people already bought this record is hard for me to get my head around. And five million since I started?  No way!  I am so grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to play music every night."

MY KINDA PARTY opened big in Nov. with an impressive first week moving over 193,000 units and earning the biggest first week debut by a male vocalist in over three years. The album’s lead and title track recently earned GOLD certification for digital downloads and took the No. one spot on Mediabase’s country chart. Aldean’s powerful duet with Kelly Clarkson “Don’t You Wanna Stay” follows closely behind, jumping into the Top 15 this week. Both singles also remain in the Top 10 on iTunes’ Country Songs Chart.

Aldean will kick off the sold out first weekend of arena dates on his MY KINDA PARTY TOUR this Friday in Little Rock, AR.  The 30 city run through May features special guests Eric Church and the JaneDear girls.

Already a success in her native England, 24 year-old UK singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding will release a special US full length of LIGHTS March 8th on Cherrytree/ Interscope Records. The US version will include three songs (“Lights,” “Animal,” and “Your Song”) not available on the original UK version. Produced by Starsmith, Goulding’s full length release LIGHTS shot to #1 on the UK chart in March 2010. This past December “Your Song” hit #2 on the charts and #1 on the iTunes Chart and the video has received over 6 million views. “Starry Eyed” has already received over 12.5 million views on YouTube.
This past September, Ellie made her maiden voyage to the US in support of her EP, AN INTRODUCTION TO ELLIE GOULDING.  She performed in New York and Los Angeles to rave reviews. Ellie has received numerous accolades from her motherland in the form of The Critics Choice Award at the 2010 Brit Awards and topped the BBC sound of 2010 poll. Goulding’s debut CD has garnered much critical praise. Described as “electro-folk-acoustic-pop,” Ellie’s songs mix heartfelt emotion with other-worldly atmospherics, spinning electronica into dreamy warmth.

Trace Bundy & Sungha Jung @ The Boulder Theater

An accomplished acoustic guitar virtuoso, Trace Bundy sells out shows across five continents with his rare combination of expert capo and fingerpicking techniques, unique stage banter, and jawdroppingly difficult arrangements. While his success was built upon a direct connection with his fans-- his videos are attracting 12 million YouTube views and counting--Trace has also garnered the critical acclaim of major media outlets like 'Acoustic Guitar Magazine', earning the title "Most Promising New Talent." It's only fitting he's joining forces with a fellow YouTube phenom and guitar virtuoso, Sungha Jung.

When Sungha Jung was nine years old, he posted a video of himself playing Trace's arrangement of "Pachelbel's Canon". That video went viral and helped launch Sungha's career, leading to 175 million YouTube views, tours of the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and thirteen awards on YouTube by the age of fourteen. Trace and Sungha have teamed up for two of Trace's South Korea tours, as well as a sold-out West Coast tour. This will be Sungha's second U.S. tour, and will include stops in NYC, Philadelphia to play World Cafe, Boston, Washington DC, and Boulder, CO.

a-ha's Farewell Tour: First US Shows in Over 20 Years!

Multi-million selling Norwegian trio a-ha will return to North America next week for 7 shows, before heading back to Europe for the final leg of their year-long world-wide Farewell Tour. The band will perform together for the very last time in Oslo on 4 December 2010.

Following a fantastic international career spanning 25 years and over 35 million albums sold, a-ha’s Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy will perform their final shows together exactly 25 years after the release of the band’s multi-platinum debut album Hunting High & Low and debut single “Take On Me”, which reached number 1 in 27 countries including the USA. Since that time, “Take On Me” has been played 3 million times on American radio… the equivalent of 375 times a day for 22 years! For a blast from the past, check out the video for “Take On Me” here.

In the mid 80’s the Norwegian trio created teenage hysteria and general pandemonium wherever they went. All told, the band has released 9 studio albums in 25 years, and toured the world many times (more than 500 concerts in 33 countries to be exact), including the legendary show at Maracana Stadium, Rio De Janeiro in 1991 which earned a Guinness World Record for the largest-ever audience attendance at a paid concert – 196,000 people (George Michael, Prince and Guns N' Roses managed to gather only sixty thousand each).

In 2006 the band received the ‘Q Inspiration Award’ in honor of their lasting musical influence. The band returned to the UK Top 5 in 2009 with the album Foot Of The Mountain. The video for the title track can be seen here. In recent years the focus has shifted to the musical legacy they will leave behind, inspiring a whole generation of artists such as Coldplay and Keane to Kanye West, Oasis, The Strokes, Robbie Williams and U2.

The band would like to thank their fans and everyone who has contributed to their amazing journey and say, “We’ve literally lived the ultimate boy’s adventure tale, through a longer, more rewarding career than anyone could hope for. Doing this now will give us a chance to get more involved in other meaningful aspects of life, be it humanitarian work, politics, or whatever else – and of course through new constellations in the field of art and music. We are retiring as a band, not as individuals. Change is always difficult and it is easy to get set in one’s ways. Now it is time to move on.” In keeping with their interest in humanitarian and global causes, a-ha still own a sizeable part of the Amazon rainforest as part of a 1980's reforestation/preservation scheme.More Info Available at www.a-ha.com

Help Make Earth Day About Overpopulation

Overpopulation is at the root of all environmental problems, but you wouldn't know it from listening to most environmental groups. The topic is rarely discussed, even though unsustainable human population growth is eating up wildlife habitat, polluting water, overfishing the oceans, and driving species extinct.

Overpopulation is the most important -- and most ignored -- environmental problem on the planet. Help us change that by donating to our Earth Day Overpopulation Fund.

Building on the spectacular success of our Valentine's Day launch of the Endangered Species Condom project, we will distribute a quarter of a million funny, edgy, conversation-provoking Endangered Species Condoms in all 50 states this Earth Day, April 22. With your help, it will be one of the biggest overpopulation campaigns in U.S. history.

Our six condom packages have beautiful drawings of endangered species and funny sayings like "Wear with care, save the polar bear" on the outside. Inside, they explain how species are being crowded off the planet by an ever-growing human population, and what people can do about it.

The packages are designed to get people talking about overpopulation. And boy, do they work. We tested them on Valentine's Day, expecting 100 volunteer distributors to come forward. An astounding 5,000 people volunteered taking all 100,000 condoms in just a couple of days!

As planned, the media ate it up. We generated funny but deadly serious conversations about overpopulation and the extinction crisis in hundreds of newspapers including The New York Times, L.A. Times, Miami Herald, and Boston Globe. More than 300,000 blogs and Web sites covered the issue.

Please help us ramp up the campaign now with a generous gift to our Earth Day Overpopulation Fund. It's the perfect opportunity to reach hundreds of thousands of people at Earth Day events across the country. We need to raise $50,000 in the next week to make it happen. With $50,000, our staff can produce and distribute a quarter-million Endangered Species Condoms on Earth Day and double our overpopulation activist network.

It is imperative that we break the wall of silence around overpopulation. If we don't, all the environmental progress we make will be overwhelmed by the sheer mass of people pushing into the last wildlife habitats, eating the last fish, and damming the last wild rivers.

I hope you'll commit now to support this critical, creative project and help us distribute a quarter of a million condoms for Earth Day 2010.
