BRAIDS Announce UK Tour & Summer Canadian Festivals

Native Speaker the debut long player from justifiably tipped Canadian quartet BRAIDS started as a musical experiment, now several years on, the results of that experiment are being gloriously realized. BRAIDS have spent the last few months wowing audiences across America with their live show, including tastemakers at this year’s SXSW. UK audiences are in for an equally memorable experience when Braids tour the UK for the first time this May.
The band will then be  gearing up for a long run of shows this Summer at 7 Canadian Fesitivals. Starting off the summer with the Flemish Eye showcase at Great Hall with Chad VanGaalen and Jennifer Castle, the band crosses the country hitting Sled Island in Calgary, the Ottawa Bluesfest, Hillside in Guelph, Osheaga in Montreal and the Regina Folk Festival.
Also, the band's recent homecoming performance at the Grand in Calgary was recently captured by CBC Radio One. Despite having debilitating bronchitis, singer Raphaelle Standell-Prestongave a mesmerizing performance to the sold-out crowd while armed with a vaporizer and throat spray. Check out the recording here.

Dinosaur Bones: 'My Divider' Streets 3/8

Toronto-based Dinosaur Bones are prepping the release of their debut LP, My Divider, on March 8th, 2011 via Dine Alone Records. In advance of the release of the album, the band has made it available for select press. Following the success of their recent Birthright EP, the band received a great deal of accolades in their native Canada. Now comes their return with the next chapter in their story. Dinosaur Bones are giving away the song “Royalty” from the album for free. Click HERE to download.

The ambition of My Divider is easily noticeable. They continue to show their growth as a band with driving tracks like opener “Making Light” and “Sharks in the Sand.” “Highwire Act” and “Point of Pride” show off the band’s penchant for complicated melodies paired with guitar-driven stomps, a la influences like The Walkmen and Chavez. The title track, “My Divider,” closes the album and showcases frontman Ben Fox’s passionate lyrics and assured delivery. As a quintet, Dinosaur Bones’ ranges of influences are widely varied. This yields a sound that is equal parts fuzzed out indie rock and heartfelt emotion, but the cohesion and sensibility are unmistakable.

Dinosaur Bones returned to the studio to record My Divider with Jon Drew (Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up, Arkells). He also recorded and mixed the Birthright EP.

Having already shared stages with the likes of Man Man, Arkels, Handsome Furs, Crystal Antlers and Plants and Animals, the band have rightly earned their place in the indie pop scene of Toronto. Now they bring their sound stateside. They’ll also be touring Canada in April with Tokyo Police Club and will be playing the main stage at the famed Edgefest in Toronto this year, sharing the bill with A Perfect Circle and Rise Against.

This Will Destroy You Heading on Tour

If they haven’t already destroyed you, Texas post-rockers This Will Destroy You, will do just that. After conquering Europe with their cinematic brand of post-rock, the quartet — comprised of with a line-up of guitarists Chris King and Jeremy Galindo, bassist/keys Donovan Jones and drummer Alex Bhore — returned to the U.S. newly invigorated. They went straight to the studio and began recording their much-anticipated album, Tunnel Blanket, with critically acclaimed producer John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, Modest Mouse, Chairlift). The Congleton sessions found the band taking an evolutionary step forward from their previous release, S/T. The end result, Tunnel Blanket, explores darker, more challenging territories than their previous releases.

Performing new material from Tunnel Blanket, This Will Destroy You is heading on the road this summer. Kicking off in their home state of Texas on May 26th, the band will perform a series of dates on the East Coast and in the South.
