Girl Talk Rings In The New Year With Biggest House Party Of The Decade

To celebrate the end of the decade and New Year’s Eve, Girl Talk threw one of the largest and craziest house parties the world has seen last week in Chicago. As an incredible surprise to the entire 4500-capacity audience at the Congress Theater, Girl Talk literally had a two-story, five-room HOUSE built on stage, including drywall, staircase, fake wooden floor and impeccable detail! What took months and months to plan, 4+ solid days and 21+ crewmembers to build, was a huge undertaking and undeniably, impressive success appreciated by all.

Complete with a kitchen that included a refrigerator with a note and photo stuck on the door, dinner table with fruit bowl, blender and more, hutch filled with china and glassware, fireplace, couch, coffee table, rug, picture frames and more in the living room, a kid's room with a bed, desk, computer and mouse, pencil jar, trophy, Snoop Dogg poster, and a bathroom with a toilet, sink, shower and curtain, plus fake trees in the yard, and the table he uses to perform presented as a large rock, the detail and thought that went into each element was flawless. The lights constructed on the outside and inside of the house, including an LCD curtain surrounding the house to make it look like the night sky, and all over the venue, added to the insanity. When the house was first presented to the audience, all the lights that were on included a few lamps inside each room, however, as the night neared midnight, the house counted down from 9 to 0, and then once midnight hit, the house came alive as lights all over the house, inside and out, shown bright. This was the first of many secrets revealed throughout the show. Others include the kitchen floor which eventually lit up turning into a disco dance floor, the entire bathroom could strobe any color, the computer in the kid’s room had an LED light attached to it, and huge amounts of light came out of the fireplace. And that’s just inside the house! There were special lights strategically hidden all over the venue that were active and radiant throughout the night.

To match the extravagance of the house and excitement of the whole night, Girl Talk played his longest set in history! The energy was outstanding! All of these aspects combined to form a truly over-the-top, electrifying night and an especially invigorating way to kick off 2010!

The entire construction process building up to the show and the actual show itself was documented on multiple HD cameras. A short film about this is being put together by Girl Talk and crew. Announcements regarding the film will be released in the coming weeks.

Leftover Salmon Celebrates 20 Year Legacy With New Year's Eve Shows in Boulder

Leftover Salmon celebrates its 20th anniversary of music and will ring in the New Year with a pair of shows at the Boulder Theater on December 30 & 31. On New Year's Eve 1989 the band was born when members of Left Hand String Band, Drew Emmitt and Glenn Keefe, joined Vince Herman and members of Herman's band, The Salmon Heads, for a gig at Crested Butte's club the Eldo.

hermanThe name Leftover Salmon was created while on the drive from Boulder to Crested Butte that day and the gig that night created the band that's swimming on to ring in 20 years this New Year's Eve. The morphing of these two bands formed a group with a trademark sound that came to be known worldwide as 'Poly-ethnic Cajun Slamgrass'. That sound propelled the group from its humble Rocky Mountain beginnings to international critical acclaim while deeply influencing countless groups that soon followed in their footsteps, such as The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band and others.

Leftover Salmon's New Year's Eve shows go on sale to general public through the Boulder Theater starting Friday, September 18 online at 10 AM MST (www.bouldertheater.com) and at the Boulder Theater box office at 3 PM.  A limited amount of tickets are available now for Leftover Salmon fan club members; anyone interested in securing these early tickets can simply visit www.leftoversalmon.com and sign up on the email list. By signing up, fans will receive a code to purchase New Year's Eve tickets in advance of the public on-sale as well as a complimentary music download of the band's main stage set at the High Sierra Music Festival.

Tickets are $38.50 for December 30 and $50 for New Year's Eve, doors are at 7:30 PM and both shows start at 8:30 PM.  The Boulder Theater is located at 2032 14th Street; Boulder, CO 80302.

RIBS & BRISKET REVUE New Year's Eve at Cornelia Street

RIBS & BRISKET REVUE- for the Grateful Web

Paul Shapiro, saxophone & clarinet; Cilla Owens, vocals; Babi Floyd, vocals; Dan Rosengard, piano; Booker King, bass; Joe Ham, drums

And downstairs in the cabaret what more exhilarating way to bring in the New Year than with Paul Shapiro's fabulous foot-stomping RIBS & BRISKET REVUE,* w/ the incredible Cilla Owens and Babi Floyd on vocals, and Paul's wonderful six-piece band.

Ribs and Brisket's new album Essen is out on Tzadik Records:

THE BUFFALO NEWS:
This is from Shapiro's fabled "Ribs and Brisket Revue" and it's from the Shapiro who's more of an avant-klezmer vaudevillian than one of the most powerful multicultural saxophonists in New York... In other words, it's the downtown New York jazz version of Jewish novelty maestro Mickey Katz.

STRAIGHT NO CHASER- UK:
Hard blowing, finger-snapping, klezmer-inflected jazz and wailing big city blues that suddenly slips into Yiddish..; Shapiro tips his beret to Slim Gaillard with a couple of his tunes in praise of kosher cuisine, pours soul sauce and reggae beats over Jewish comedy songs and generally rips into things with just the right mix of irreverence and affection... Respect is due to John Zorn's Tzadik label for bringing this unique recording to the world. There really is no one else doing it quite like Shapiro!

$50 includes a glass of Nicolas Feuillatte Vintage Brut Champagne at midnight

New Year's Eve Show Marcus Goldhaber W/The Jon Davis Trio

Catch Marcus with the Jon Davis Trio on NYE- for the Grateful Web

When Marcus was growing up, every night after dinner his mother would call him over to the piano to teach him a new song. She had no great plan to train him professionally, she only wanted him to know this music and have it a part of his life. She would always say, "This is a great one for you to know."

At age 14, he quickly realized that this was not a common practice in the homes of his friends. So needless to say, he listened to a wide range of music that included Robert Smith, Jim Morrison, Sarah Vaughn, Elton John, Claude Debussy, Eddie Vedder, and Chet Baker, but at night he'd always go right back to the piano with his mom after dinner; quite the balance for a suburban kid in Buffalo, NY.

This was not a chore, but rather a treat – a chance to get another piece of a genre in which he always wished he'd been born. Instead, born in 1978, Marcus fell in love with this music through the influence of his grandparents, Ernest and Martha Blaustein and, of course, through these after dinner sessions with his mom. When his grandparents were alive, these two were grace, class and chivalry incarnate and to Marcus, this was all written and brought to life in the music of their time.

Today, he is right at home in this genre interpreting the songs of Dorothy Fields, Sammy Cahn, Harold Arlen, Jimmy Van Heusen, Sammy Fain, and so many others. Marcus is a perfect blend of yesterday and today. With a modern approach that stays true to the style of this music, he hopes to help bring these great tunes back so that young people can grow up knowing this music as he did and then pass it on to their children, maybe after dinner at the piano.
