Conscious Alliance and Elephant Revival Host Benefit for Pine Ridge Reservation

The Boulder based nonprofit organization Conscious Alliance and the musical group Elephant Revival are teaming up to present the Buffalo Heart Concert on April 30 at The Boulder Theater. Elephant Revival, the neo-acoustic transcendental folk quintet from Nederland, will be joined by John Oates, The Plenty Wolf Singers, The Dovekins, as well as very special guest Nat Keefe of Hot Buttered Rum.

Conscious Alliance is a national nonprofit that was founded in 2002 and is focused on delivering emergency food relief to the most impoverished communities in the United States. Most of their collected donations are distributed to Native American Reservations, where six of the seven poorest communities in the U.S. are located.

Elephant Revival carries a fresh sense of creativity and inspiration that is felt by people of every generation. Musically and collaboratively the quintet is inspired to spread a message of sustainability while nurturing an awareness of positive change through the pure light intention of their music.

This event will mark the second time Elephant Revival and Conscious Alliance have teamed up for a night of music that will benefit the nonprofit’s efforts on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, one of the most economically isolated regions of the country. Last year’s benefit was extremely successful and raised money to heat homes throughout the winter for impoverished community members of the reservation.

For the 2011 benefit, Elephant Revival and Conscious Alliance will once again allocate the funds raised at the Buffalo Heart Concert to the Pine Ridge Reservation. The funds will be directed toward the ongoing mission of keeping the Conscious Alliance emergency food storage facility stocked on Pine Ridge, as well as funding Lakota Youth Programs in the summer that will focus on the preservation of Lakota tradition.

Dierks Bentley Ends 2010 with More Accolades

As 2010 comes to a close, country music maverick Dierks Bentley capped off a daring year with three GRAMMY nominations for Best Country Album for his critically acclaimed UP ON THE RIDGE and two nominations in the Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for the album’s “Bad Angel” featuring Miranda Lambert and Jamey Johnson and “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” featuring Del McCoury and Punch Brothers.

Since announcing this Spring that his fifth Capitol Nashville studio project would be steeped in the bluegrass and roots music that moved him to become a country musician in the first place, Bentley has garnered the support of fans, media and industry peers alike. UP ON THE RIDGE has been named one of iTunes “Best Albums Of the Year” and one of Amazon’s “Top 10 Country Albums of the Year.”  It also earned glowing praise from critics who said the album was “the best country recording we’ll hear in 2010” (Washington Post), “timeless” (NPR) and “shocking in its freshness” (Boston Globe).

Bentley will close out his year UP ON THE RIDGE with a revival of his intimate Dierks Bentley and Friends pre-GRAMMY bash at the Troubador in Los Angeles on Feb. 12.   The last edition of this event featured surprise guests including members of Pearl Jam, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Dwight Yoakam and more.   A very limited number of fan tickets will go on sale this Fri. through www.dierks.com.

Conscious Alliance Announces Holiday Meal Drive & Toy Collection

As the holidays approach and the spirit of giving swells, Boulder, Colorado-based national nonprofit Conscious Alliance announces the 7th Annual Holiday Meal Drive this Thanksgiving Season, taking place November 18-24, 2010. Conscious Alliance has been hosting food drives at concerts and sporting events since 2002, collecting and distributing nearly 1,000,000 pounds of food to impoverished Native American Reservations.

Last year, Conscious Alliance’s Holiday Meal Drive collected enough food to distribute over 1,500 holiday meal boxes to Native American households at Lame Deer Reservation in Montana, Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and Houma Reservation in Louisiana. This holiday season, Conscious Alliance hopes to feed more than 10,000 families through donations and it’s easy to help. A donation of $15 or more will provide dinner for a family this holiday season and only $30 or more will feed an individual for an entire week. For more information or to make a donation, visit here.

Conscious Alliance concentrates much of their efforts on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, where the average median income is under $3,000. Many families in this region struggle to provide food and heat for their households. Native American youth are particularly affected by the poverty in Pine Ridge, where one-fourth of the population is under the age of eighteen. Not forgetting the children in these impoverished families, Conscious Alliance will host a toy drive too – this year at the November 7, 2010 Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! performance at Broomfield, Colorado’s 1STBANK Center.

All toys collected at Kia Motors Presents Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!: There’s A Party In My City! will benefit the youth of this area and be distributed during the holiday season. It is recommended all donations at Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! are a new stuffed animal valued at $10 or more.

Dierks Bentley Takes The Tonight Show "Up On The Ridge"

Award winning singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley will debut the lead and title track from his forthcoming bluegrass-influenced album UP ON THE RIDGE on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, tonight,  Tues., April 27.  The track, written by Bentley and Angelo Petraglia, features Petraglia on acoustic guitar, Sam Bush on slide mandolin and background vocals by Alison Krauss.

“This is the most fun I’ve ever had making music,” says Bentley.  “The songs, the production, the collaborations...everything came together so organically and naturally...it’s been a blast.   Now, we’ve got tv offers and a tour...I feel the same excitement and nervousness I felt when we were getting ready to release my first album 6 years ago!”

As anticipation builds for the artistically-daring collection, music critics are stirring with a first taste of the June 8, 2010 release.  CMT’s Chet Flippo predicts it will be a “career landmark” for Bentley, and MusicRow magazine is already calling it “the first masterpiece country album of 2010.”

Dierks Bentley Shares Details about UP ON THE RIDGE

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley will release his artistically daring, acoustic new album UP ON THE RIDGE on June 8, 2010.  His fifth Capitol Nashville studio project is steeped in the bluegrass and roots music that moved Bentley to become a country musician in the first place.  The lead single and title track, inspired by time spent on a plot of land in rural Tennessee, will be released to country radio on April 12.

“I fell in love with this kind of music the first time I walked into the Station Inn with a fake I.D. at 19 years old … these guys, who were my age, were playing their instruments so hard it knocked your head back.   After that, I never missed a Tuesday night there in almost eight years,” explains Bentley.  “Without the whole bluegrass community taking me in, I would have had no place to start from.  It is my foundation.”

Produced by Jon Randall Stewart and engineered by Gary Paczosa, UP ON THE RIDGE is a document of an artist who’s using some well-earned freedom to write in a fresh vein and cook up collaborations with the musicians who fascinate him the most.  Dozens of talents have contributed in some way to this project.  Besides the five co-written by Bentley himself, the songs come from such varied sources as Bob Dylan, U2 and Kris Kristofferson. The monumental Kristofferson is here as a guest vocalist as well, along with a slate of today’s best traditional country singers, including Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Jamey Johnson and Miranda Lambert.  And then there are the players, recruited from the top echelons of bluegrass and acoustic music. Among them: Chris Thile and the Punch Brothers, the Del McCoury Band, the legendary Sam Bush, dobro player Rob Ickes, guitarist Bryan Sutton, fiddler Stuart Duncan, and mandolinist Ronnie McCoury.
