Conspirator releases new track, announces fall tour dates

Conspirator, the live electronic brainchild of Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner of The Disco Biscuits and their new partner Chris Michetti, is set to hit the road again this fall. Armed with an arsenal of slamming new electro songs, the trio will welcome superstar drummer KJ Sawka (PENDULUM) to the tour for the first six shows before passing the baton to Conspirator regular Mike Greenfield of Lotus.

Conspirator has been hard at work in the studio, working on a slew of new tracks inspired by the current styles of popular electronic music, embracing the sounds popularized over the last few years. “Feed the Wolf,” the first installment from a batch of new original tracks, is out this week on SoundCloud with new singles to be released bi-monthly through the fall. At 128 BPM, it combines elements of Electro and Dutch House, but still retains an original edge that is always present in Conspirator's music.

LISTEN TO FEED THE WOLF HERE

As well, they have been cutting their teeth in the remix game, currently working on official remixes of 12th Planet, Porter Robinson, Zed's Dead, Vaski, and TimBerg/Avicii with many more to come. The release of these remixes is expected to begin this fall, concurrently with the release of the original material.

Marc and Aron are currently among the headliners of the IDentity Festival, performing with The Disco Biscuits. The experience has them touring the nation with hot electronic artists such as Rusko, Kaskade, Pretty Lights, and Steve Aoki. Once the 18-show amphitheater tour concludes at the Gorge in early September, they will immediately start preparing for the 3 week Conspirator Fall tour, which brings them from the Mid-West, through their native Northeast and finally down South to Langerado Music Festival in Sunrise, FL before closing the tour with a stop in Charleston, SC. This will, ironically, bring Conspirator back to where they started festival season, having played the sold out Ultra Music Festival in Miami last March. It has been an exciting year for Conspirator, having made stops at such illustrious electronic music festivals such as UMF, Nocturnal (Texas), Electric Forest, and Camp Bisco 10, which was hosted by the Disco Biscuits and reached a sold out, capacity crowd of 25,000 people.

Keep your eye out for Conspirator as they bring their newest sounds into your town this fall!

Country Mice Announce Summer Tour Dates

What does Country Mice front-man Jason Rueger have in common with less than 300 people in the US?  Growing up in Beattie, that’s ruralest of rural Kansas. On a farm of course, that was passed down through three generations of his family and old enough to be on the Pony Express route. “Family, friends, and working the land gave us a good wholesome life”.
Walking dirt road paths, working and living off the land, squinting his eyes at the sun, but with headphones on, it is not the bucolic atmosphere but music that most inspires him.  At an early age, Rueger sets his sights for something different than the surrounding dirt and milo that stung his eyes and cut his hands.
Breaking away from the close-knit ties of friends and family, Rueger moves east, not to Nashville, where you might expect a country boy to venture, but to Brooklyn.  It doesn’t take long to hook up with fellow Midwest transplants Ben Bullington (guitar) and Kurt Kuehn (drums) as they all quickly band together, finding comfort in their shared sense of displacement.  Eventually, as the trio becomes more assimilated to their new surroundings, they recruit upstate New Yorker Mike Feldman (bass).
As Country Mice, they rally together to craft apocalyptic ballads through amplifier hazes that thicken into funnel clouds, drums that stomp-clap sedately before the storm peaks, and bass tones that thicken the bloodstream. Rueger draws on his small town rearing with sophistication beyond the ordinarily romantic and reductive Americana troubadour, and his songwriting is anything but dime a dozen.
Strong traces of Neil Young and Wilco are mixed into modern experimental guitar sounds that any fan of mid-90’s Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. will love. Living and gigging in Brooklyn, Country Mice begin to fully develop their sound, which becomes by influenced the other hardworking bands of Brooklyn's fast-paced scene.
Their debut album Twister is out now. It's a record that sonically chisels through the calloused shell of glossy rock & roll to find the dissonant live wire beneath and play it for all its worth. It tells a tale of strained memory: the hardships, joys, and love of growing up in a small town in the Midwest, with the hopes and dreams of traveling the world – a record for every kid seeing the big world from his small bedroom window.

Introducing Nikki Lane! Gone, Gone, Gone EP Out July 19th

Nikki Lane’s Gone, Gone, Gone EP will be released July 19, 2011 on IAMSOUND. The EP will preview Lane’s full-length album out September 27, 2011 on IAMSOUND.

Nikki’s debut on IAMSOUND, the four-song EP titled Gone, Gone, Gone, features the title track (produced and co-written with Fool’s Gold’s Lewis Pesacov, who also produced the Best Coast album), “Western Bound” and “Down To The Wire,” two songs from an early self-released album titled No Room For Cowboys, and the alternate version of forthcoming album track, “Coming Home To You,” produced by David Cobb (Shooter Jennings, Jamey Johnson). On Gone, Gone, Gone, Nikki plays the rambler and sometimes drunkard with such an ardent aptitude she'd fit right in alongside those icons in whose songs she was able to find her own voice.

One glorious day some years back, teenage high school dropout Nikki Lane packed a trailer with her worldly possessions. With one hand firmly gripping a steering wheel and the other flipping the bird, she said so long to her home, Greenville, SC, the South and any sort of life it had suggested she should live. Western bound, she was headed to Los Angeles for no other reason than just because. After working various day-to-day jobs in fashion and the like, and living a life without clear direction, five years passed and Nikki started writing music, but soon forsook that path, after just two promising shows, for a job offer in New York.

But like the best country singers, shortly after moving to New York, heartbreak brought Nikki back to music. She started learning Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, John Prine and Merle Haggard tunes, trying her best to strum along and building her confidence along the way. Impressed with her bold vocal chops, classic, heartfelt country ballads, and wildly infectious personality, IAMSOUND found Nikki last year just before she relocated to Nashville to focus on her music career full time.

When not working on her music, Lane stays busy wearing various hats in fashion. She’ll be one of several artists featured in American Eagle's back to school ad campaign, and she owns a vintage boutique called High Class Hillbilly.

Listen to Nikki Lane’s “Gone, Gone, Gone” off of the Gone, Gone, Gone EP here.

DJ Shadow: Something to be Thankful for in Denver

On November 21, DJ Shadow (Josh Davis) is bringing his world famous mixing chops to the Ogden Theater in Denver. Live from Shadowsphere, it is the beginning of an easy work week for most people, and the DJ plans to start the week off right with guest Pigeon John at 8 pm.

DJ Shadow is widely considered as a prominent figure in the development of experimental and instrumental hip hop. His debut album Endtroducing got him on the map, and also in the Guiness Book of World Records for the “First Completely Sampled Album” in 2001. Shadow is also a producer, and has produced tracks for the Mo’ Wax team featuring the likes of Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Richard Ashcroft (the Verve), and Mike D (Beastie Boys). After releasing several more successful albums with elite rappers such as: Keak Da Sneak, E-40, and Q-Tip (Tribe Called Quest) and a David Letterman performance, Shadow opened his own web store www.showDJShadow.com for fans to get his freshest tracks. Last year, Shadow became involved in the video game industry with DJ Hero, which features Shadow as a playable character and several of his tracks. While currently working on his new album, which he calls a “return to form,” during a gig in Antwerp this summer, he stated that it’s not quite ready yet, but he will keep working on it to have it ready for future tours.

Fans can be getting the first look at his new projects. Whether you get your tickets through Ticketmaster, at Twist & Shout in Denver, or at the venue itself, this will be a gig that’s not to be missed. As always, you can buy tickets, add comments, and upload photos at the DJShadow.com/Tour show pages, and on the DJ Shadow iPhone App. Just click on the show you are attending (or the show you plan to attend). No Jam in the Dam 2011, look for return in 2012

A note from the organizers of the Jam in the Dam Festival:

Dear Friends,

After long consideration, we have decided to postpone Jam in the Dam until 2012. We really wanted to do it for the fans, including our growing base of Europeans for whom this show is the one chance each year they can enjoy what many of us here take for granted. We had sincere interest from many bands this year, but in the end, we felt like we did not have a line-up that would be ‘new and improved’ from years past. With the economic climate and the expense involved in traveling to Europe, we find that Jam In the Dam may be more approachable for the fans and may become more successful as a biannual event.

Amsterdam offers a cultural experience unlike that of any other festival in this genre. Ask anyone who has been, and they will rave about the atmosphere and intimate nature. We are planning to have 2012 ready to go by February 2011, so that we can offer a choice to traveling jamband fans. This will also give people a year to plan for the time off and save their money. Also, we’re working on more weekend days so more of our friends from Europe can become part of our growing scene there.

Most people who are fans of this amazing event know what the founder, Armand Sadlier, has been through, but rest assured his health is better than ever. This event will NOT go away, and his love of Amsterdam will be the catalyst for continuing to bring people to one of the most beautiful and welcoming cities on Earth! See you in 2012!

Bjørn Torske's Kokning Set for November Release on Smalltown Supersound

Bjørn Torske is a special artist with a special name.  He was born in northern Norway where fishing has been the main industry for hundreds of years and his name literally translates as “Bear Cod”.  Even making dinner is unique in Norway: you put the potatoes on to boil, go out to sea and catch a fish, then return to prepare the meal. This process is known as “kokning”.  To say that northern Norwegians do things their own way would be putting it lightly . . . to say that Bjørn Torske is making music his own way would be exactly right.

Kokning, Bjørn Torske’s second album on Smalltown Supersound, starts out beautifully.  It’s both melodic and melancholic with a warm, slow ambiance. Soft psychedelics and a Balearic rhythm are introduced before it fades into Torske’s signature skranglehouse* and then ends with what can only be described as “Moondog disco” (imagine if Moondog and Count Ossie got together to make disco). Kokning takes avant-disco, weirdo-dub, post-punk, and quirky electronica -- all elements found on his previous albums (Nedi Myra / Ferox, 1999, Trøbbel / Telle, 2001, Feil Knapp / Smalltown Supersound, 2007), plus more organic and acoustic sound basics and less programmed patterns, and mixes them into the ultimate Bjørn Torske album.

Since Feil Knapp, Bjørn has been working on a number of remixes for other artists, including Sunburned Hand of the Man, Lindstrøm, Crimea X, Big Robot feat. Conrad Schnitzler, to name a few. He’s also been busy working with music and soundscapes for a stage production, as well as touring with his own band, the Bjørn Torske Band.

Kokning is out November 2nd on Smalltown Supersound. The first 12” from Kokning will feature a remix by DJ Harvey.

* Along with Erot, Bjørn Torske invented a genre known as “rattle house” (or “skranglehouse” in Norwegian) and translates as a bit of everything from dub to disco, jammed within a resonate floor-friendly house pulse.  This 4/4 Scando-movement began at Oslo venue Skansen, inspired by club regulars The Idjut Boys, and the term “skranglehouse” was henceforth associated with Torske and Erot.  Torske’s underground hit “Søppelmann” (Svek) quickly became the skranglehouse anthem and the movement later became the foundation for the next generation of space disco artists such as Lindstrøm, Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, and Diskjokke.

Kokning Tracklisting:

1. Kokning

2. Bryggesjau

3. Gullfjellet

4. Langt Fra Afrika

5. Bergensere

6. Slitte sko

7. Nitten nitti

Black Seeds + Katchafire @ The Fox Theatre

Originating from Wellington, New Zealand, The Black Seeds have carved out their reputation through platinum selling albums, a masterful 8-piece live show, and a unique sound that fuses infectious grooves and melodies with undiluted roots music. With numerous European festival tours and releases behind them, and a successful 2009 North American release, their following continues to spread quickly around the globe.

Led by the vocals of Barnaby Weir and Daniel Weetman, at its core The Black Seeds music is a boundary-crossing sound fusion of big-beat funk, dub, soul, and afro-beat, mixed with vintage roots-reggae. Described by Clash Magazine as ‘one of the best reggae acts on the planet’, their legendary 8-piece live show brings the raw energy and good vibes wherever it goes. They now have countless sell-out New Zealand and Australasian tours behind them, and regularly perform at many of Europe’s biggest festivals.
The Black Seeds manage to play beyond the normal boundaries of reggae without compromising the music’s heart. While “Rotten Apple” has all the thump of a vintage Parliament-Funkadelic jam , “Afrophone”’s punchy horns and get- on-the-good-foot rhythm recall James Brown and the J.B.s at their peak – and the Seeds manage to pull it all off while retaining their voice. They make the blend of sounds feel absolutely natural. This is not a reggae band dropping a nov- elty funk cover into the middle of a set, this is simply Black Seeds music.” - Jambase.com (U.S.A) – Nov. ‘09
Reggae is one of the bloodlines of New Zealand music -- which accounts for the extraordinary success of Hamilton's Katchafire who, emerged as the hardest working band in the country. Their astonishing debut album, the prophetically named Revival, sold in excess of 30,000 copies (double platinum). The success of the band was evident in album sales, opening shows for the likes of Michael Franti and Spearhead, gigs all across the country (three in one day on Waitangi Day 2004, in Hamilton, Manukau and Nelson), three tours to Australia and New Caledonia, and most recently a stadium-filling headlining show in Fiji.
From humble beginnings ‘jamming’ in a garage, Katchafire is a melting pot of unique members, including two generations of one family and diverse musical perspectives – yet this blend is exquisitely aligned with the essence of reggae which can be an expression of social and political persuasions, hardship and pain, relaxation and reflection. Dubbed New Zealand’s hardest working band by national media, Katchafire have now completed numerous national and seven international tours. The band has moved audiences around the globe with three tours in New Caledonia, one tour in each Fiji and Hawaii and 10 Australian tours.
Katchafire’s unique, proudly New Zealand reggae style envelopes cross-cultural and cros-generational audiences in the revitalising vibes of healing music, encouraging sing-alongs and regeneration of soul. The Katchafire flame continues to burn ever brighter and stronger.

Sleepy Sun Announce MORE US Tour Dates

Sleepy Sun is a California band from many Californias. They hail from the rolling oak and sage hills of Sierra Gold Country, The San Francisco Peninsula, where Kesey raged and the Dead were once Warlocks, and the forever-sunshine climes of the Southland.  They came together—young and garage strutting in the coastal Northern California crucible of Santa Cruz. And there they birthed the Sleepy sound—dead blues shaken alive, razor sharp and ramblin’, soul, sonic science and dead-on pop surgery. Wooden, earthy, stratospheric, and swinging…California music of beautiful contrasts for conflicted times.
Now, two records into a frighteningly fast-blossoming evolution, Sleepy Sun are a living machine of fire and focus. Their first release on ATP records Embrace illuminated the golden path to Sleepy land—hard-riffing, delicate, dreamy and cultivated. The latest ATP release, Fever, is arrival at the palace the path promised.

Fever is the honey harmonies and danger wailing of Bret Constantino and Rachel Williams pulled from a tender tangle into steel-strong braid; the wing-on-wing guitars of Matt Holliman and Even Reiss in screaming dives and sweet ascending circles; the lowdown served up tough and thundering from drum and bass authorities Brian Tice and Jack Allen.

Fever is a band working, like the heroic combos of old—real, made by hand, eyes ahead on an unbridled future and giving two shits for the sideways glance of the lurking trend spotter.  A band working, and a working band—Sleepy Sun’s soaring and soul-stirring live shows are already mowing down audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.  They’ve opened for Autolux and Mudhoney, rocked Primavera and Treasure Island, and relentlessly toured the capitals and humble hamlets of North America and Europe. And in their path, the converts are fast becoming legion.
They are a band of musical adventure too—tackling Graham Nash’s ‘Chicago’ for a forthcoming compilation celebrating the Hollie/CSNY legend’s work. English electronic collective U.N.K.L.E. have taken note of Sleepy Sun’s eclectic energies as well, working collaboratively on a track with the band for an upcoming single and LP.  Sleepy Sun won’t relent in 2010. Fever in May, SXSW and the Arctic Monkeys in spring. And as always, a hundred twists yet untold in a message—sent with burning love and rock-solid soul—from California to the whole damn beyond….
Also....ATP Recordings will be releasing a limited edition EP to celebrate Record Store Day on April 17th featuring tracks from Built To Spill, Apse, Sleepy Sun and Fursaxa. Limited to just 1000 copies worldwide, the 10” will feature tracks from recent and soon to be released albums on ATP/R.
Each EP will come with a coded card allowing free downloads of MP3’s of the 4 tracks as well as some bonus download only tracks from other ATP Recording artists such as Fuck Buttons (Olympians radio edit), The Scientists (We Had Love), Alexander Tucker (Veins to the Sky) and The Drones (River of Tears).

Umphrey's McGee's "1348" Launches in Rock Band

Umphrey's McGee will be launching their song "1348" on the Rock Band Network this week. This marks the first release by the band in any video game, and the progressive-rock influenced music proves to be a great fit.

Umphrey's McGee has been working with former Harmonix Music Systems employee and current Rock Band Network freelancer Andrew Buch. Buch is working on several songs for the program, including 1348 and Miss Tinkles Overture." "1348" is the first of these songs to be made available, with plans for others to follow shortly.

Buch, whose mind-numbingly difficult "Trippolette" is one the top-five best-selling launch songs on the Rock Band Network, has worked on several games in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises and was a likely choice to prepare the music of Umphrey's McGee for the game. Samples of his work can be found on his website www.andrewbuch.com, including video footage of both Umphrey's McGee's music and "Trippolette" running in-game.

"1348" is scheduled to release on Wednesday or Thursday of this week, and will be available to be purchased in Rock Band 2 on the XBOX 360 via the newly implemented Rock Band Network Store. It will additionally be available to purchase via the XBOX Live Marketplace.
