Announcing 9th Annual Hoxeyville Festival

The 9th annual Hoxeyville Music Festival, held August 19-21 in the Heart of the Manistee National Forest in northwest Michigan, announces a diverse lineup including fusion masters Umphrey's McGee, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart Band, Michigan’s rising newgrass stars Greensky Bluegrass, New Orleans-funk infused Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, satirist songwriter Todd Snider, reggae pioneers The Itals, Umphrey’s side project Digital Tape Machine and many more.

The Hoxeyville Music Festival is held on 85 acres of pristine North Country farmland and hardwood forest located next door to Kestelwoods campground which includes a swimming pool, showers, plug-ins, dump station and wireless Internet. As in years past, the festival site also features a disc golf course with a glow course, a variety of VIP and quiet camping options, a vendor village and a beer tent featuring some of the finest brews from the region. Hoxeyville thrives on somewhat of an exclusive basis as the event’s attendance is capped at 5000 in order to keep the intimate vibe that the organizers have intended from the festival’s inception.

This summer’s Hoxeyville complete artist lineup includes Umphrey's McGee, Mickey Hart Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Todd Snider, The Itals, əkoostik hookah, Digital Tape Machine, Great American Taxi, Breathe Owl Breathe, Ella Riot, Van Ghost, The Ragbirds, Seth Bernard & May Erlewine, The Macpodz, Steppin' In It, Rachael Davis, UV Hippo, Strange Arrangement, Airborne Or Aquatic, Funktion with additional artists to be announced shortly.

In a crowded playing field of music festivals, Hoxeyville activates the environmentalist in everyone at the event by implementing an incentive based program where all festival goers are encouraged to do ‘green acts’ on the grounds, a continuation of the festival’s pure intentions. The ‘Hoxeyville High Five’ has attendees competing for various festival prizes, upgrades and signed artist gear by doing such conscious clean up actions as using a compost bin or picking up trash.

In 2010, the Festival’s green ethic was wildly successful, helping to compost more than 70% of the waste produced as well as requiring all vendors and caterers to use non-food based biodegradable cups plates which greatly reduced the festival’s impact on the local landfills. Hoxeyville’s natural roots are located deep within the Manistee National forest adjacent to the Pine River, a national wild and scenic river; notably, the festival reduces its carbon footprint further by powering its stages and productions using biodiesel generators.

UK's Everything Everything Spring/Summer Tour

Imagine a band who fuse three part harmonies with scalding post-punk guitars; floor-filling bass lines with syncopated rhythms and lyrics about everything from high-school massacres to R&B lotharios musing on their lot in a post-apocalyptic wilderness.

Not easy, is it? But then Everything Everything aren’t here to make life easy. They’re here to challenge every knee-jerk convention of indie rock and dance on the grave of pointless retrogression.

Chances are you’ve come across EE before. Chances are they perplexed, intrigued and if you’ve an ear for something special, they excited you. They first accosted our senses with ‘Suffragette Suffragette’ in Dec 08, followed by ‘Photoshop Handsome’ in May and third single ‘MY KZ, UR BF’ in Oct 09.

Having whipped up interest in all quarters via these low key releases (they’ve acquired fans ranging from Zane Lowe to 6Music’s Marc Riley, played two UK tours- including an advance sold out ICA show as an unsigned band, notched up a top spot on MTV2’s My Space Chart and been tipped by the likes of NME and Times Culture), they signed to Geffen Records in late 2009.

Schoolin is the first single to be taken from their recently completed, David Kosten co-produced debut album (title tbc) due for release in August. It seems set to be the breakthrough debut album of 2010.

Live, the band are poised to head out on the NME Radar tour co-headlining with Hurts followed by the main support slot on Delphic’s forthcoming dates in May before the summer festivals kick in. EE are so far confirmed to play Reading & Leeds, Glastonbury, Latitude (headlining the Lake Stage) and Bestival.

Help Stop Mining Pollution in Wild Idaho Forest

- for the Grateful Web

The Bush administration is poised to approve the expansion of a polluting phosphate mine in southeast Idaho that would seriously jeopardize some of the state's most renowned wildlife and trout streams.  The Smoky Canyon Mine is already listed as a Superfund site for releasing hazardous amounts of toxic selenium into the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. With no cleanup effort underway, we need your urgent action to protect the extraordinary wildlife and pristine forests of this region from a renewed onslaught of pollution.

Click here right now and urge the Bush administration to prohibit the proposed 1,300-acre expansion of the Smoky Canyon Mine.

The Caribou-Targhee National Forest is home to some of the most biologically diverse wildlands in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

The celebrated forests and streams of this region provide a refuge for lynx, moose, elk, mule deer and other wildlife, as well as two species of native cutthroat trout. Anglers, hikers and other recreationalists flock to this area from nearby communities and from across the country.

If the Smoky Canyon Mine is expanded, even greater quantities of toxic selenium will flow into the aquifers and streams of the Sage Creek Roadless Area and other pristine forestlands - threatening fish and wildlife, water quality and potentially human health.

Click here and tell the Bush administration to reject this disastrous scheme and instead require the mine's owners to clean up the existing selenium contamination.

Help Save Alaska's Tongass National Forest

Tongass Forest - help stop clear-cutting- for the Grateful Web

We need your urgent action to make sure that Congress stands firm against taxpayer subsidies for destroying America's greatest temperate rainforest.

Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/tongass/takeaction right now and tell your senators and representative to protect the Tongass, a thriving habitat for grizzly bears, salmon runs, bald eagles and the elusive Alexander Archipelago wolf.

Thanks to pressure from you and other online activists, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in June to halt taxpayer subsidies for destructive new logging roads in Alaska's Tongass National Forest.

But Alaska's senior senator, Ted Stevens, is now working feverishly behind closed doors to make sure that this long-overdue legislation never sees the light of day. And he's drafting his own, underhanded, amendment to restrict sharply the public's ability to halt wasteful and devastating Tongass logging in court.

Over the last 25 years, more than 1 billion taxpayer dollars have been spent to clearcut and build roads through this irreplaceable BioGem.

NRDC activists like you have spoken out again and again against these wasteful handouts, which have enabled timber companies to expand their reach into the unspoiled heart of America's rainforest.

Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/tongass/takeaction and demand that House and Senate negotiators stand up to Senator Stevens and his destructive logging-road subsidies in the Tongass!

Thank you for helping to defend this priceless rainforest refuge for imperiled Alaskan wildlife.

Another Forest Bites The Dust

Colorado- for the Grateful Web

Bush & Dick are at it again... June was a busy month (even for this administration), as Bush, Dick, the Army Corps of Engineers, federal judges, the Forest Service, the Fish & Wildlife Service, the EPA, and the rest continued on their (war)path of doing more damage to our environmental protections than any other administration in U.S. history.

The latest and greatest; Bush's plan to cut back Clinton's roadless rule - opening the way for his logging & mining buddies to go to town on 58 million acres of our National Forests. As expected, Republican governors in many western states applauded Bush's plan, claiming its ideal land for development.

What I can't understand is their inability to look down the road 10, 20, or 50 years. George Bush, Dick "Oil Can" Cheney, and all these western Governors (including Colorado's very own Bill Owens) have children and many have grandchildren.  Surely they want to maintain our countries' national treasures for them? They must want to continue Teddy Roosevelt's notion of saving forests for wildlife and their sheer beauty?  I'm certain they want their grandkids to experience a hike through the Rocky Mountains - knowing there is wildlife afoot and they could have an opportunity to see some.  Hey guys, if we continue to invade wildlife's habitat with new roads, homes, & humans, there won't be any places left for them to be wild...

Why are Republicans always so interested in the short-term dollar? Our forests and our wildlife should not be up for sale. Their habitat can NEVER be replaced.  This discussion will be moot in 50 years if we don't do something now. We cannot continue to open forests to development...there isn't enough left.
