The 9^th annual Hoxeyville Music Festival, held August 19-21 in the Heart of the Manistee National Forest in northwest Michigan, announces a diverse lineup including fusion masters Umphrey's McGee, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart Band, Michigan’s rising newgrass stars Greensky Bluegrass, New Orleans-funk infused Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, satirist songwriter Todd Snider, reggae pioneers The Itals, Umphrey’s side project Digital Tape Machine and many more.

The Hoxeyville Music Festival is held on 85 acres of pristine North Country farmland and hardwood forest located next door to Kestelwoods campground which includes a swimming pool, showers, plug-ins, dump station and wireless Internet. As in years past, the festival site also features a disc golf course with a glow course, a variety of VIP and quiet camping options, a vendor village and a beer tent featuring some of the finest brews from the region. Hoxeyville thrives on somewhat of an exclusive basis as the event’s attendance is capped at 5000 in order to keep the intimate vibe that the organizers have intended from the festival’s inception.

In a crowded playing field of music festivals, Hoxeyville activates the environmentalist in everyone at the event by implementing an incentive based program where all festival goers are encouraged to do ‘green acts’ on the grounds, a continuation of the festival’s pure intentions. The ‘Hoxeyville High Five’ has attendees competing for various festival prizes, upgrades and signed artist gear by doing such conscious clean up actions as using a compost bin or picking up trash.

In 2010, the Festival’s green ethic was wildly successful, helping to compost more than 70% of the waste produced as well as requiring all vendors and caterers to use non-food based biodegradable cups plates which greatly reduced the festival’s impact on the local landfills. Hoxeyville’s natural roots are located deep within the Manistee National forest adjacent to the Pine River, a national wild and scenic river; notably, the festival reduces its carbon footprint further by powering its stages and productions using biodiesel generators.

The Bush administration is poised to approve the expansion of a polluting phosphate mine in southeast Idaho that would seriously jeopardize some of the state's most renowned wildlife and trout streams.  The Smoky Canyon Mine is already listed as a Superfund site for releasing hazardous amounts of toxic selenium into the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. With no cleanup effort underway, we need your urgent action to protect the extraordinary wildlife and pristine forests of this region from a renewed onslaught of pollution.

The Caribou-Targhee National Forest is home to some of the most biologically diverse wildlands in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

The celebrated forests and streams of this region provide a refuge for lynx, moose, elk, mule deer and other wildlife, as well as two species of native cutthroat trout. Anglers, hikers and other recreationalists flock to this area from nearby communities and from across the country.

If the Smoky Canyon Mine is expanded, even greater quantities of toxic selenium will flow into the aquifers and streams of the Sage Creek Roadless Area and other pristine forestlands - threatening fish and wildlife, water quality and potentially human health.

Bush & Dick are at it again... June was a busy month (even for this administration), as Bush, Dick, the Army Corps of Engineers, federal judges, the Forest Service, the Fish & Wildlife Service, the EPA, and the rest continued on their (war)path of doing more damage to our environmental protections than any other administration in U.S. history.

The latest and greatest; Bush's plan to cut back Clinton's roadless rule - opening the way for his logging & mining buddies to go to town on 58 million acres of our National Forests. As expected, Republican governors in many western states applauded Bush's plan, claiming its ideal land for development.

What I can't understand is their inability to look down the road 10, 20, or 50 years. George Bush, Dick "Oil Can" Cheney, and all these western Governors (including Colorado's very own Bill Owens) have children and many have grandchildren.  Surely they want to maintain our countries' national treasures for them? They must want to continue Teddy Roosevelt's notion of saving forests for wildlife and their sheer beauty?  I'm certain they want their grandkids to experience a hike through the Rocky Mountains - knowing there is wildlife afoot and they could have an opportunity to see some.  Hey guys, if we continue to invade wildlife's habitat with new roads, homes, & humans, there won't be any places left for them to be wild...

Why are Republicans always so interested in the short-term dollar? Our forests and our wildlife should not be up for sale. Their habitat can NEVER be replaced.  This discussion will be moot in 50 years if we don't do something now. We cannot continue to open forests to development...there isn't enough left.
