Bob Weir's TRI Studios Hosts Slightly Stoopid

Slightly Stoopid is pleased to announce their live debut at Grateful Dead/Furthur founding member Bob Weir’s TRI Studios on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. The band will perform two sets (acoustic & electric) and the performance will feature guests Karl Denson (Greyboy Allstars, Tiny Universe), Ian Neville (Dumpstaphunk, Funky Meters), and Don Carlos (Black Uhuru), with plenty of surprises in store. In between sets, fans can partake in the first-ever live Stoopid Q&A from TRI Studios, communicating with the band via onscreen Facebook and Twitter feeds.

TRI Studios is a state-of-the-art performance studio, broadcasting live HD video and audio streams via the Internet. The show will air live at www.tristudios.com at 6:00pm PDT, and will also be offered on re-played at 9:00pm PDT. Each Streaming costs $10.00 for access. Tickets are on sale now for both showings and can be purchased by visiting www.tristudios.com or clicking the banner at www.SlightlyStoopid.com. Band members will also be featured speakers at the SFMusicTech Summit on Monday, September 12, 2011, in support of this high profile, groundbreaking broadcast.

Slightly Stoopid is currently on their Seedless Summer 2011 Tour making 25 stops in all, including some of the country’s best outdoor venues, such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, and Cricket Amphitheater in their hometown of San Diego, CA. As The San Diego Union-Tribune recently reported, “Headlining Cricket for the third year in a row is a coup for the Ocean Beach-based group -- a feat unmatched by blink-182, Jason Mraz, Jewel, P.O.D. or any other nationally prominent San Diego act, past or present.” The complete list of Slightly Stoopid’s Seedless Summer 2011 Tour dates is included below.

Formed in 1995 in San Diego, CA’s Ocean Beach by childhood friends Miles Doughty (guitar, bass, vocals) and Kyle McDonald (guitar, bass, vocals), Slightly Stoopid has become one of the most influential and progressive improvisational musical outfits on the tour circuit. As Amped Up Magazine points out, it’s for good reason. “Slightly Stoopid have perfected one of the rarest and most valuable skills a band can develop: the art of the stealth groove.” Always a festival favorite, Slightly Stoopid has performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Milwaukee Summerfest, Wakarusa, and many others. With their two most recent albums both debuting on Billboard and iTunes charts, the band has sold over 750,000 albums and now releases all material on Doughty and McDonald’s own record label, Stoopid Records.

Here We Go Magic Announce North American Spring Tour

Here We Go Magic are hitting the road once again bringing their electric show to audiences across the US. They'll be joined by Brooklyn cohorts Cavemen in the lead up to their debut Coachella performance.

This is a band with a live show like none other, once you've seen them there is no going back.

The tour is in support of The January EP. The EP's six tracks complete the songwriting cycle that Here We Go Magic began in an upstate New York farm house upon the commencement of their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Pigeons (2010, Secretly Canadian). The band's signature mix of swirling guitars, krautrock grooves, pulsing synths, and hushed chants provide a foundation for these otherworldly songs.

"Hands in the Sky" (download link below) is a ghostly number that showcases vocalist Luke Temple's lyrical pedigree, his words pushed forward in lockstep with a band heaven-bent on window dressing your headspace like a cosmos for the 20 minutes they've got your attention. At the center of the EP lies what Here We Go Magic does best, a dichotomy between eerie folk sounds and driving art rock. The jangly back-and-forth between the guitars of Michael Bloch and Temple form the backbone to "Song In Three," the yin to Pigeons standout "Collector"'s yang. Cyclical in its instrumentation and lyrics, the spooky lullaby "Hollywood" climaxes with a mantra that wouldn't have been out of place on the band's 2009 self-titled release. The January EP was produced by Jen Turner and recorded live to analog tape in a band-built living room studio.

The Concretes Currently Touring the West Coast!

Sweden's preeminent dreamy indie-pop ensemble The Concretes is currently in the midst of the West Coast leg of their first U.S. tour in four years, and now they'd like to share a new music video for WYWH’s “Crack In The Paint.” The band is on the road with MillionYoung, which still has them passing through Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego & more.

WYWH sees The Concretes in their new incarnation- former drummer Lisa Milberg has stepped out from behind the kit to take over lead vocals after the departure of Victoria Bergsman. The album has a dreamy, ethereal disco tinge, and features less guitar, more keyboards, bass, and deep grooves, while maintaining the irresistable melodies that give The Concretes the sound that they’ve come to define.

Check Out the New Music Video for WYWH's “Crack In The Paint” HERE!

Kinky Friedman's First West Coast Your in Two Decades

Former Texas gubernatorial candidate, political commentator and self-proclaimed “author, columnist, musician and beautician” Kinky Friedman will perform on the West Coast this summer for the first time in nearly 20 years. Dates for the “Go West Young Kinky Tour of 2010” start on July 26th in Vancouver and continue into August (a full list of venues follows). Two members of Kinky's seminal band the Texas Jewboys, Little Jewford and Washington Ratso, will join him on the tour.  No prisoners will be taken. Only the strong shall survive.

The Kinkster, often referred to as the “Mark Twain of Texas,” will also be hawking his wares, in this case his most recent (limited edition) books, Heroes of a Texas Childhood and What Would Kinky Do?, both of which will be available for purchase and signing at the shows. As Kinky has often said, he’ll “sign anything but bad legislation.” This includes any of his dozens of top-selling books or columns, or even his Kinky Friedman Cigars, which, rumor has it, will also be available at the venues. Bring it, and he will sign it.

Kinky Friedman rose to stardom in the ’70s, with the aforementioned Texas Jewboys as his sick and twisted sidekicks. An equal opportunity offender, Kinky, with his outrageous lyrics and crazed stage persona, may have offended some, but drew people like Don Imus, Robin Williams, Bob Dylan and John Belushi into his spiritual fan club. He toured with Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue and appeared on the inaugural season of Saturday Night Live. His infamous appearance on Austin City Limits, the only performance ever filmed by ACL and never broadcast because of content, has finally been released on DVD, to the delight of fans everywhere.

In the mid ’80s, Kinky rescued a woman being robbed at a midtown Manhattan ATM, and, based on this experience, created the character Kinky Friedman the Detective, who solved murders in what would become a series of wildly popular mystery novels. In the years since, the real Kinky has branched out into children’s books, memoirs, historical reflections and editorials, all to great success, and all powered by his razor sharp wit.

Kinky’s commentaries have appeared in such diverse media as The New York Times, Texas Monthly and Playboy, and since adding politics to his résumé, he has been a regular on cable networks, even stopping by occasionally to spar with Bill O'Reilly.

His books are now read the world over, and his tour schedule reflects this. From Bill Clinton to Billy Bob Thornton to Nelson Mandela, everybody loves a Kinky Friedman mystery. As the ever-humble author likes to say, “I write novels for Americans to read on their aircraft.” Billy Bob is currently working with him on a new book, as is Willie Nelson.

And now, for the first time in almost a generation, folks on the West Coast will get to hear Kinky perform (live!) tunes like “Ride ’Em Jewboy,” “Sold American” and “They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore.”  And many friends will be there too: Mojo Nixon will join Kinky in San Diego, and Van Dyke Parks has already signed up for L.A.  There’s no telling who else will pop in.  Will there be a Wavy Gravy sighting in San Francisco?
