Moogfest 2011 Announces Initial Lineup

AC Entertainment is proud to announce the initial lineup for Moogfest 2011, the annual festival of electronic and visionary music, celebrating the innovative spirit of Bob Moog, inventor of the Moog synthesizer. Taking place Oct. 28 – 30, in beautiful Asheville, NC, Moogfest’s Halloween harvest of musical delights builds on the tremendous success of last year’s reinvention of the Moogfest concept in the city that Bob Moog called home.

This year’s Moogfest lineup highlights a remarkable synergy of classic electronic music pioneers, contemporary groundbreaking artists, and young upstarts who are further pushing musical boundaries. ‘70s innovators, including Tangerine Dream, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Suicide, will present rare US performances as they join a lineup that includes the Flaming Lips, Passion Pit, STS9, Ghostland Observatory, Crystal Castles, Chromeo, Battles, Umphrey’s McGee, Mayer Hawthorne & The County, M83, Holy F**k, Matthew Dear, Twin Shadow, Toro y Moi, The Naked And Famous, Tim Hecker, Anika, Austra, Causing A Tiger, and Gold Panda, with many others still to be announced.

The final Moogfest 2011 lineup will ultimately feature performances by over 60 internationally acclaimed artists in numerous venues throughout downtown, including the Asheville Civic Center Arena, the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and world-renown Orange Peel Social & Pleasure Club. The festival will also host workshops, talks, interactive experiences and art exhibitions and installations.

“Last year’s reinvented Moogfest – the first to take place in Asheville - was an amazing experience – and the response from artists and fans alike was extraordinary,” says AC Entertainment founder, Ashley Capps. “We’re very excited and inspired to build upon that success for the 2011 festival.”

Weekend passes for Moogfest 2011 will go on sale on Saturday, June 4, at 12 Noon Eastern exclusively at www.moogfest.com.

MoogFest 2010 Announces DEVO As Recipient Of Moog Innovation Award

The Moog Innovation Award celebrates pioneering artists whose genre-defying work exemplifies the bold, innovative spirit of Bob Moog. Moog Music would like to congratulate DEVO on being the 2010 recipient of The Moog Innovation Award, to be presented to the band during MoogFest 2010 weekend, October 29-31 in Asheville, NC. As part of this award, Moog Music will present DEVO with a very special synthesizer, details of which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Past recipients of the previously titled Moog Award include Keith Emerson, Herb Deutsch, Gershon Kingsley, Jan Hammer and Bernie Worrell.

“MoogFest is about shunning limitations, opening your mind and rejoicing in what’s next. MoogFest is about celebrating the marriage of technology and art, fearlessly embracing the future while respecting the genre-definers of the past. That’s why we created the Moog Innovation Award, to celebrate artists that helped to catapult pop music into the future and commemorate those artists that boldly burst through established norms to pave the way forward. That’s the spirit of Bob Moog and that’s the essence of the Moog Innovation Award.

The first recipient of the Moog Innovation Award is DEVO and we feel that they are a perfect representation of innovative sound-sculpting and genre-defying electronic music. Like Bob Moog, DEVO enthusiastically charted their own course and thus dramatically affected pop culture because of it. Not to mention the fact that they used Moog instruments to create their inimitable sound. MoogFest and the Moog Innovation Award is the perfect way to pay homage to Bob Moog and his adopted hometown of Asheville, NC where he raised his kids, gave birth to some of his greatest inventions and where he re-established the company that bears his name and carries on his legacy, Moog Music.”   – Emmy Parker, Moog Music

DEVO, along with many more internationally renowned performers known for pushing creativity towards new dimensions, will play MoogFest 2010, a three-day festival celebrating the innovative vision of Bob Moog. About Moog Music:

Asheville is the headquarters of Moog Music, the company Bob Moog formed in 1963.  Moog’s push for continual innovation permeates the company’s culture to this day.  In 2008, they produced the groundbreaking Moog Guitar and more projects are currently in development.  2010 marks a landmark in the company’s history as the 40th anniversary of the MiniMoog, one of the most popular of the Moog synthesizers, which will certainly be a focus of the MoogFest 2010 weekend.

Garaj Mahal’s Discovery - Out of the Garaj, into the open..

“This is just the beginning to my journey with this instrument” –Fareed Haque

Have you felt patronized by music lately?  Do the simple pop schemes disappoint you? Are you looking for something complex and intricate?  Then this is the album for you.  This is musician’s music.  The 12 set track listing is similar to satellite radio, changing frequencies and styles from track to track.  By the third track, “Never Give Up”, Garaj can hush the crowd with the haughty hues and hot-headed harmonies.

Make a Hippy Happy has the moog guitar 21st century wah wah pedal riff that is exactly what makes a hippy happy.  In the past I have referred to Haque as the Professor and in this latest studio effort there is no change.  He demonstrates the moog guitar in an instructional manner on a CDRom feature on the disc.  A brief bit to exhibit his mastery of stringed instruments proves his ability.  The music on the disc proves his ability to have fun while making tunes all will want to hear.

This is an album to put on during a dinner party.  I decided this because it opens intellectually and by the end has changed into a whole new animal, just like dinner parties can.  The last track on Discovery is a Thelonious Monk tune, “Round Midnight”. Isn’t that just fitting? All in one album, Garaj has managed to run the gamut of expressions.  More Mister Nice Guy is an extension to keep the party going.  Jazz has evolved with this super group, bringing rowk, funk, and jammed out versions of their own original styling.
