Kyle Hollingsworth Announces Fall Tour in support of Then There's Now

For more than a decade, as keyboardist for Colorado's beloved String Cheese Incident, Kyle Hollingsworth has consistently proven one of the most innovative and virtuosic musicians on the American jamband scene. Now, with the Sept. 15th release of Then There's Now (SCI Fidelity Records), his first album since the band announced a hiatus in 2007, Hollingsworth extends his reach into areas that will both delight longtime admirers and lock in countless new ones. Emphasizing his considerable songwriting skills and incorporating a plethora of surprises, Then There's Now marks the true emergence of Kyle Hollingsworth as a solo artist.

kyleKyle Hollingsworth Band (featuring Dave Watts of The Motet -drums, Garrett Sayers of The Motet -bass, and Dan Schwindt -guitar) tours Midwest and West Coast States this fall in support of Hollingsworth's new album release.  Brushfire Records recording artist Zach Gill (ALO, Jack Johnson) joins Hollingsworth for the October run of West Coast dates and Colorado's Euforquestra returns home to support the September's Midwest dates.   A limited number SCI Fan Club tickets will be available through pre-sale at www.kylehollingsworth.com  beginning Wednesday, July 29th at 10 am PDT.  General on sale begins Saturday, August 1st at 10am PDT at www.kylehollingsworth.com and at respective venues.

October 16    Wild Buffalo        Bellingham, WA
October 17    Mississippi Studios    Portland, OR

For Hollingsworth, who has recently been more prolific than ever before, the title of Then There's Now offers the first clue as to where he stands today. Then There's Now undeniably draws on Hollingsworth's past affiliation with "The Cheese," using his previous work as a jumping off point-yes, there are some intoxicating, if more concise, jams to be savored. But the album's "now" component-irresistible melodies, poignant lyrics and fine-tuned song construction, plus a willingness to infuse the tunes with elements of pop, jazz, electronica, hip-hop and more-transports Hollingsworth into musical realms he's never before explored at length.

Chicago Power-Poppers Baby Teeth Hit The Road in Support of Hustle Beach

Chicago's favorite power-pop trio, Baby Teeth, are hitting the road with their brand of arena-ready anthems of suburban dystopia and real-world candor. Baby Teeth is comprised of songwriter, keyboardist, and singer Abraham Levitan (Bobby Conn and the Glass Gypsies, Pearly Sweets and the Platonics), who heads a piano-teaching group and composes music for underground theater, bassist Jim Cooper (Detholz!, Bobby Conn and the Glass Gypsies), a film composer and church orchestra director, and drummer Peter Andreadis (All City Affairs), a mastering engineer and live sound man for The Sea and Cake. Celebrated for their chops, songwriting and massively entertaining live shows, Baby Teeth concentrate their musical talents, literate lyrics and strong melodies into hard-hitting, brainy pop. Lotus On Tour In Support of Brand New Album

photos by Phil Emma- for the Grateful Web

This fall, Lotus releases their highly anticipated studio album, Hammerstrike, and steps out on their most ambitious tour yet. The months ahead will wrap up a huge year of growth for Lotus; a year that has positioned this instrumental post-rock outfit for a breakout 2009.

Hammerstrike (October 14, 2008/SCI Fidelity)  finds the band reaching back in order to move forward.  Primarily recorded live in one room to analog tape by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man), the album captures a sound that harkens back to the 70's but never slips into nostalgic retreads.  The compositions are focused and melodic, filled out with orchestration including swelling violins and cellos, banjo, wordless choirs, and electronic noises.  Though the tracks range from dance floor ready rockers to soaring post-rock instrumentals, the album is held together by a sanguine spirit pervading each track.  The big guitars, feedback, and distortion serve an optimistic purpose.  It is a decidedly American feel that invokes big skies, open roads, and a zealous yet naïve pursuit of the idea that defeat will never be conceded.

The band will tour this fall in support of Hammerstrike. The complete list of confirmed dates is as follows:

Lotus formed at a Mennonite college that had banned on-campus dancing as late as the 1980's, and has been creatively fusing electronic dance music with instrumental post-rock for the past eight years. Armed with a massive light rig and one of the most energetic shows on the circuit, Lotus was a go-to act for late night festival slots this past summer, performing at ROTHBURY, Summerfest, Camp Bisco, and others. Also in 2008, Lotus saw advance sellouts in venues throughout the U.S. including Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh, two nights at World Café Live in Philadelphia, two nights at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Higher Ground in Burlington, Kinetic Playground in Chicago. The band's remix album, Copy Paste Repeat: Lotus Remixed was released to critical acclaim, and came on the heels of their double live CD release, Escaping Sargasso Sea.

Dobet Gnahoré In Support of the Global Education Fund at The Boulder Theater

Dobet Gnahore- for the Grateful Web

Celtic Music meets West Africa. Musicians from 6 countries in the Celtic fringes of Europe and the West coast of Africa join together to play the most original live world fusion sound around. The spirit of the music lives in the rhythm. All Baka Beyond's rhythms are played by human beings not machines!

The minute Dobet Gnahoré (pronounced DOH-bay gna-OR-ay) steps onto the stage, it is obvious she is something special. She exudes an inner strength and commanding presence that draws you in, even before she has opened her mouth to sing. Once Dobet does begin to sing, her voice is filled with emotion and range. She moves from heartfelt ballads to funky, danceable songs with ease, and is comfortable performing in a wide range of African styles. Eventually, Dobet begins to dance, and the true depth of her talent shines through. She jumps across the stage like an acrobat, a soulful tornado of movement who astounds the audience with her moves. Just 24 years old, Dobet Gnahoré has got it all – an exceptional voice, amazing dance skills and the engaging aura reserved for artistic greats. After masterful performances across Europe and the United States, she has become one of African music's most exciting young talents.

Lotus Tours in Support of Live Album Escaping Sargasso Sea

photo(s) by P. Emma - Grateful Web ©2007- for the Grateful Web

For those waiting for a concert experience with the dynamics of a rock band (read: no laptops), the dance inducing rhythms of club music, and the sophistication of modern electronica, an unlikely musical alternative has arrived in the form of the band Lotus.  Formed at a Mennonite college that had banned on-campus dancing as late as the 1980's, Lotus brings their club-worthy beats and rocking instrumental anthems to theaters throughout the country this fall.  No glow-stick bracelets, pretentious Can trivia, or expensive distressed fashion required.

Lotus's new release, Escaping Sargasso Sea (May 2007), is a double-disc live album that draws from two previous studio albums, Nomad and The Strength of Weak Ties, along with never before released material.  From the post/math-rock of "When H Binds to O" to the slippery dance beats of "Wax," this collection shows Lotus's ability to deconstruct, stretch, and rebuild their compositions spontaneously on stage.  Restraining from flaunting their individual chops, Lotus builds compositions on catchy melodies and heavy grooves.

The five-piece band has creatively fused electronic dance music with instrumental post-rock for eight years. The result is an explosive live show that has made crowds get down across the US, Canada, and Japan. Armed with a massive light rig and one of the most energetic shows on the circuit, Lotus proves why they have become a go-to act for late night festival slots.  This tour takes the band into renowned theatres nationwide including the Ogden Theatre in Denver, the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, Park West in Chicago, and the Bowery Ballroom in New York.

Lotus' complete list of confirmed Fall Tour dates is as follows:

What critics have been saying about Lotus:

"…intent on creating a new genre (few try that these days)...it is rock, and smart disco, funk and soul, piano pop, world music, and modern alienation stuff and jazz fusion you can dance to all wrapped up in cellophane."  -Big Takeover

"In this new terrain in which lie endless creative possibilities, Lotus continue to expand upon its post-everything rock/electronic/jazz/free-form pastiche."  -Big Shot Magazine

"If you were listening to the music of Philadelphia five-piece Lotus right now, you would be dancing. There's no doubt about that. Their grooves are tight, and fast, and fun, and one would be hard-pressed not to shake it hard at a Lotus show." -Jambands.com

BASSNECTAR Tours In Support of New Album, Underground Communication

photo by: Shauna Regan - for the Grateful Web

Underground heavyweight Bassnectar released his new album, Underground Communication, on OM Records Tuesday, May 8.  Fresh off a recent appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, look for Bassnectar live at clubs and festivals throughout the U.S. this spring and summer. Voted San Francisco's "number one DJ" three years in a row and currently the eighth most downloaded electronic artist on iTunes, Bassnectar is stirring up quite the buzz. Look for Bassnectar in current/upcoming issues of ALARM, BMP, DJ MAGAZINE, DJ TIMES, HARP, REMIX, URB, XLR8R and many others.

Voted "Best DJ" by Nitevibe.com and SF Bay Guardian, Bassnectar's music is forging new paths in the electronic music world, the Burning Man scene, underground hip hop circles, and beyond. The brainchild of Lorin Ashton, Bassnectar is an experimentally collaborative music project, but it's also a platform for social change and political awareness. It's stylistically specific, yet it's an eclectic, full spectrum adventure.

For Bassnectar's new release, Underground Communication (Om Records/May 8, 2007), Bassnectar takes another step forward in his genre-bending blend of musical styles and emotions, combining the visceral melodic presence of modern listening music, with the force and volume of sound system dancefloor devastation. The new record is an exploration of hip-hop culture, featuring scores of MCs and rhythmic poetics mashed atop a heavy, driving  range of tempo and, of course, those signature throbbing bass lines. Rooted firmly in political conviction and philosophical intention, and backed by a rabid fan base and dedicated following, Underground Communication sets a new standard for the possibilities of merging music, art, new media and social activism.

The list of current Bassnectar appearances is as follows:
