Pop sensation Nadine Coyle makes her move on America

Nadine Coyle is most famously known for being the lead singer of the Guinness World Records acclaimed pop group, Girls Aloud. Together the group achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles (including four number ones) and two number one albums in the United Kingdom. All of their albums have been certified platinum, with their albums The Sound of Girls Aloud, and Out of Control both selling over one million copies. They have been nominated for five BRIT Awards, winning the 2009 Best Single for "The Promise."

In 2010, Nadine released her debut solo album Insatiable and its title track through Black Pen Records in the United Kingdom. The lead single caught fans' attention and in early 2011 was voted as a "Best Single" behind Kylie Minogue's "All the Lovers," Lady Gaga & Beyonce's collaboration "Telephone," and Robbie Williams + Gary Barlow's "Shame" at The Virgin Media Music Awards.

BOOMBOX CONTINUES ‘DOWNRIVERELECTRIC’ TOUR IN COLORADO

After a completely sold out Colorado tour in early 2010 with return trips this past summer to play the Mile High Music Festival and to close out the Westword Music Showcase, BoomBox returns for 7 dates with Sub Swara and their genre-bending bass music from Brooklyn, NY. These dates are sure to sell out quickly and all tickets are on sale now.

You can currently catch BoomBox on the East Coast leg of their ‘downriverelectric’ tour with stops in the mid-west before they make it to Colorado.

BoomBox, born out of legendary Muscle Shoals, AL features Producer/Engineer/DJ/Drummer Russ Randolph and Producer/DJ/Vocalist/Guitarist Zion Rock Godchaux. This pair of dynamic artists uses their rich musical history, inspiring vision and pop culture influences to deliver a style of music distinctly different from anything heard in the live music scene today. Their signature sound and high-energy shows bring live music to a new, elevated level.

BoomBox released their sophomore album, downriverelectric (available on iTunes) on June 30, 2010 using analog recording sessions and some of the same vintage gear as their Muscle Shoals predecessors. The album, with over 5000 units moved via their website in the first month, pays homage to the musical memoirs of Muscle Shoals’ past and to the rhythm of the Tennessee River, which has long inspired the group. From brand new cuts such as Dungeons and Watergun to live fan favorites Headchange and Mr. Boogie Man, the album deliberately weaves a variety of dance frenzy beats filled with catchy songwriting and soul shuttering low end.

Sub Swara creates, constructs, produces and plays genre-bending bass music that parallels the diversity of their hometown of Brooklyn, NY. Consisting of Dhruva Ganesan and Dave Sharma, Sub Swara’s musical genome brings together a wide assortment of DNA – from dub to hip-hop, dancehall to punk rock, and all the global sounds in between.

Bob Marley's Wailers Continue His Legacy With New Single To "Keep Them Belly Full"

On a trip to Colombia at the end of last year, legendary reggae group The Wailers gave out hundreds of pairs of shoes to under-privileged children from the money they had raised from foregoing their daily riders.  During their extensive travels that followed, they were often confronted with one of the worst plights, yet one of the easiest problems to solve – hunger.
The Wailers’ leader and musical director Aston “Familyman” Barrett decided to collaborate with the World Food program and the United Stations because he felt that he wanted to make a contribution to help put an end to hunger around the world.  The result of their efforts culminated in a new track called “A Step for Mankind,” which is their first studio song in 16 years.   The song was recorded specifically for Oniric Records’ compilation CD Solution for Dreamers: Season 3 and is available at iTunes with ALL proceeds from the song going towards the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP). The Wailers are now asking for your help.
“A Step for Mankind,” written by Wailers’ vocalist Duane Stephenson, is a call for world unity and strength to support the ongoing struggle against world hunger. The band is joined on the track by new lead singer Koolant, a fresh talent from the heart of St. Thomas known for blazing a positive future for reggae music with his work. The track also introduces Dr Dre protégé Bishop Lamont, an up-and-coming rapper, contributes an unforgettable flow in the track’s breakdown.  Graced by the Wailers’ undeniably distinctive groove., “A Step for Mankind” is a small taste of more music forthcoming from the Wailers, who recently entered the studio in Jamaica to begin work on an album of all-new material.
The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide. A United Nations institution, the WFP is committed to getting food where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. Each year, on average, WFP feeds more than 90 million people in 70 countries.
According to the World Food Programme website:
  • Every 6 seconds a child will die from hunger
  • Each day 25,000 people will die from a lack of food
  • 1.02 billion people will go to sleep hungry tonight, this is 15 percent of the estimated world population
For 25 cents you can help save a person’s life today by going to iTunes and purchasing The Wailers “A Step for Mankind” here.
And be sure to check out The Wailers new video here.

Phish Fall Tour 2010

Omara Portuondo, Nov 3 @ Boulder Theater

Singer. Born in 1930 in Cuba. The daughter of a Cuban baseball player, Portuondo began her career as a dancer at a famed Havana nightspot called the Tropicana. She started a duo with her sister Haydee, singing in clubs. The two later formed the group Cuarteto las d'Aida, which toured the United States and Europe, beginning in 1957.

In Miami at the time of the revolution, Portuondo decided to return to Cuba while her sister decided to stay in the United States. Under Fidel Castro, she continued to make music and tour in many countries except the United States. Portuondo is considered one of the most famous singers in Cuba. Known especially for her boleros, or ballads, she has been compared to American blues artist Billie Holliday and French vocalist Edith Piaf. A living legend, Portuondo has been the subject of a documentary, Omara, which won an award at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival.

Portuondo happened to be recording at the same Havana studios at the same time as the Buena Vista Social Club, an ensemble of Cuban musicians. Producer Ry Cooder asked her to lend her legendary voice to the project. As a result, she sang her lead vocals on "Veinte Años" on Buena Vista Social Club (1997). The album sold more than 1.5 million copies and stirred interest in Cuban music around the world. Unlike many of the other performers on the album, Portuondo already had a thriving career. But Buena Vista Social Club raised her profile in the United States and won her even more fans.

Portuondo continues to perform live and make new albums. Some of her most recent albums include Gran Omara Portuondo (2002) and Lagrimas Negras Canciones y Boleros (2005).
