John K Band Labor Day Weekend Mini-Tour

Its been a hot summer, but this past Furthur tour on the east coast was an incredible (and sweaty) blast!  And now the John K Band is pleased to announce that as the summer rolls into the final stretch, the John K Band will be out on the road for a Labor Day Weekend Mini-tour!  A three-night run that sees us returning to the 8x10 in Baltimore (Fri Sep 2) and the State Theatre in the DC area (Sat Sep 3) and then making our first real road-trip to the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ (Sun Sep 4).

At our Spring performances we brought out some new material, including new original songs, and we have more planned for these upcoming shows.  You can listen to some of our previous shows free at the Internet Archive.

DEERHOOF - New 7”s, Reissues, Congotronic Vs. Rockers News & More!

Deerhoof’s Milk Man is being reissued on vinyl in celebration of the band’s upcoming All Tomorrow’s Parties performance of the album this July in London (alongside The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr.).
A 180-gram strawberry vinyl version will be available in stores on July 5th and limited to 1000 copies.
The starting point for Milk Man was a cartoon character created by Japanese artist Ken Kagami, a longtime friend of Deerhoof vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki.
In contrast to the earnest guitar rock that predominated on their previous album Apple O', Milk Man featured a broad palette of orchestral colors, echoes of music theater and camp, polished and gaudy arrangements, Stravinskian harmonies, and a more stylized, anonymous playing style resulting partly from recording most of the instruments at separate times rather than playing together as a band, and partly from many of the arrangements being created in a computer.

Critical praise for Milk Man came notably from NME and Spin, and the song "Milk Man" was chosen in 2009 as one of Pitchfork's top tracks of the decade.
Polyvinyl has a special pre-order package deal on these releases. Visit PolyvinylRecords.com for more information.

Marco Benevento | U.S./Canada Fall Tour

Marco Benevento will tour the U.S. and Canada this Fall in support of his latest release, Between The Needles & Nightfall. The run begins with four nights in Canada and five nights in New England. The stretch includes a stop at the Massachusetts Museum Of Contemporary Art where Benevento will reprise his new score to the '60s cult film House Of Usher that he debuted in August at Celebrate Brooklyn. He'll also play two rare solo piano shows in Asbury Park and New York City. Benevento rejoins his band in November, heading to North Carolina and Virginia for three shows, including his first headline appearance in Asheville at The Grey Eagle. The tour wraps with five nights on the West Coast, returning to Doug Fir Lounge in Portland for the second time this year, as well as a Saturday night at The Independent in San Francisco.

The Brooklyn-based pianist and "sound sculptor" is coming off a busy summer that found him on the road with his own trio in addition to touring as a full-time member of Garage A Trois and Surprise Me Mr. Davis. Highlights included a solo piano set at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, a co-bill with The Books at Rhode Island School of Design and a hometown album release show at Bowery Ballroom in New York City.
