Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers @ Boulder Theater

Fronted by Roger Clyne with drummer P.H. Naffah, lead guitarist Jim Dalton and bassist Nick Scropos, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers are the only independent band to debut in the Top 10 on Billboard's Internet Sales chart for six consecutive albums, including two #1 entries. Clyne & Naffah enjoyed an accomplished stint with The Refreshments, the late-90s rock band whose cult-classic album Fizzy Fuzzy, Big & Buzzy produced the hit singles "Banditos" and "Down Together." Clyne wrote and performed with The Refreshments the theme song for the hit cartoon King of the Hill.

Known for blazing innovative trails with the release of several past projects, the white-hot foursome known as Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers is at it again with the web-only release of Glow In The Dark, a spectacularly sparkling live recording taped at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck, New Jersey in 2008. The project concept debuted February 2, 2009, and continues for 14 weeks at the band’s website – www.azpeacemakers.com, where fans can hear and watch an entire live show that captures the true spirit and vigor of RCPM. A new song (audio and video) debuts each of the 14 weeks.

With the conception of its first ever “VivaCast”, the non-conformist rock-and-rollers successfully pioneered a revolutionary new way to create music and put their fans directly in the recording engineer's seat with a voyeur view. The stunning result is captured on Turbo Ocho, the CD/DVD released in March 2008, which chronicles the amazing creative process of producing 8 new songs in 8 days. Each song was written, arranged and recorded in a day and upon completion, instantly uploaded to the internet, along with the accompanying day’s video log, for thousands of fans to hear and view.

Porter Batiste Stoltz ft. Kyle Hollingsworth @ Boulder Theater

Kyle will join Porter Batiste Stoltz | photo by Tim Hurley- for the Grateful Web

Known for creating some of the funkiest music on the scene, Porter Batiste Stoltz is comprised of three outstanding individual musicians who together always put the music – no, the groove – first.  George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste Jr., and Brian Stoltz are part of the rich history that is New Orleans' musical ancestry and this March, PBS will be bringing their NOLA funk show to Boulder Theater.  Master keys player Kyle Hollingsworth (The String Cheese Incident) will be joining PBS so the funk grows on.

Porter Batiste Stoltz are celebrating the success of their first-ever live release MOODOO, which hit streets in the fall of 2008.  Offbeat Magazine named MOODOO one of their Top 10 albums of 2008 and Creative Loafing calls the tunes "fresh and full of energy."  The album features special guest keyboardist Page McConnell (Phish) sitting in on select songs.  The recording offers highlights from an epic November 2, 2007 gig at Burlington, Vermont's Club Metronome, where McConnell joined PBS on stage for part of their performance. Documentation of the evening had been highly sought after by fan communities, yet there had been no known recordings of the show – until its release.

Todd Snider ft. Austin, Herman & Kaufmann @ Boulder Theater

Todd Snider- for the Grateful Web

Todd Snider's performance will feature Jeff Austin, Ben Kaufmann (YMSB) and Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon).

Keith Richards said humor was rock and roll's greatest weapon, Bob Dylan proved it and Snider takes it to heart. For twelve years, Snider has been a satirist, class cutup and the rare artist who understands and celebrates the connections between the Stones, Dylan, Bill Hicks, John Prine, Mitch Hedberg, Kris Kristofferson, Hunter S. Thompson and Randy Newman. Snider's records are fun even when they aren't being funny, funny even when they're sad, and no less truthful for the laughs.

For fans of rock 'n' roll, folk, country and Americana music have long been held in Snider's sway. His last album, 2006's The Devil You Know, landed him on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With David Letterman, and it appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists. Peace Queer, his newest release, is just the beginning of his typically unique vision. It is the first in a trilogy. Even as we celebrate the release of Peace Queer, Snider is already working on the follow-up, with Rolling Stones producer Don Was. After that, there will be a rock album called Shit Sandwich.

Umphrey's McGee Unleash the Fury at the Boulder Theater

An historic transition is underway in the music industry.  The digital age is causing the rapidly occurring obsolescence of solid-state media – records, CDs, and the like – right before our eyes.  It's sink or swim time for the recording industry and artists alike: either get on board and innovate your marketing for the 21st century, or cling to a dying system and go down with the ship.  Fortunately for the music-loving public, intelligent artists are choosing to swim, often leaving their record labels behind in favor of more consumer-driven approaches, despite the fact that

Charlie Hunter Quartet @ Boulder Theater

photos by Sam Holloway- for the Grateful Web

Charlie Hunter's going indie with his first self-release, Baboon Strength, in a career spanning 18 years, 14 albums, a dozen side projects and a zillion miles on the road performing live! Though he continues this tradition on Baboon Strength, the record is an absolute progression from his previous albums. The music has an electronic feel to it yet the tone is undeniably playful. Charlie Hunter continues to astound audiences with his prodigious and unique ability to play both guitar and bass lines simultaneously.

Born of hippie parents, blah blah blah. Grew up poor, yadda yadda yadda. Eight-string guitar, whoopee shit. Sure, the eight-string thing is cool—if not a little demented—and the reason we all know who he is, but it only reflects Charlie Hunter the craftsman. But what's really most notable about Charlie Hunter is the force behind the craft; the drive that causes him to do the improbable; his raison de rock.
