EOTO Set to Make Annual Northeast Pilgrimage

hannThe left coast breakbeat, glitch-hop and house duo known as EOTO, is set to embark on their annual east coast trek to kick off a run of spring 2009 performances. Following an undeniably successful winter tour, including a weeklong stint in the Sunshine State, EOTO will bring their innovative blend of live instrumentation and digital mixing north to eager audiences awaiting the next chapter in the group’s musical voyage.

Featuring Jason Hann and Michael Travis, formerly of the progressive jam outfit String Cheese Incident, EOTO is a shot of adrenaline to the heart of the music industry. Differing in sonic stature from their mixing forefathers, the typical EOTO live experience is 100% atypical, meaning nothing is pre-recorded, nothing is pre-looped and no set is pre-planned. Every night is a distinctive journey into the musical minds of Hann and Travis, each feeding off of the other’s creativity and the audience’s vibes. EOTO combines cutting-edge technology with live instrumental performance to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment.

Beginning immediately after the conclusion of their Florida tour, EOTO will head to Nashville, Tennessee for a show at Windows Off the Cumberland on March 16th. Additional stops include performances in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and Ohio before the group heads back to the Midwest. For a complete list of dates and details, be sure to check EOTO’s MySpace page for the latest info as the group continues to heat up 2009

Following the enormous success of 2007's Country Ghetto, JJ Grey & Mofro hit the studio this summer and have emerged with a new album proving to be an instant classic.  ORANGE BLOSSOMS (August 26, Alligator Records) is a collection of down-home, soul-shaking music produced by long-time cohort Dan Prothero.  The album features 12 songs (including 11 Grey originals) inspired by Grey's life experiences and visionary observations. With long-time friend and guitarist Daryl Hance, bassist/organist Adam Scone, drummer Anthony Cole, and the Hercules Horns of saxophonist Art Edmaiston and trumpeter Dennis Marion, Grey moves effortlessly from gospel-tent fervor to Southern-fried rockers to deeply emotional soul. ORANGE BLOSSOMS is a groove-driven masterpiece fueled by JJ's gritty, smoldering vocals and intense, funk-infused guitar and keyboard work.

The weekend-long festival begins on Saturday, September 6, with appearances by such musicians as Michael Franti and Spearhead, Ziggy Marley, Warren Haynes, King Britt, Cheb i Sabbah, and a variety of renowned DJ's and other international acts.  Throughout the event, various speakers including Namkha Rinpoche Lama, will address these various issues on the main festival stage and participate in the Amnesty International Sponsored Social Forum Speaker Tent. The Mezzanine in San Francisco will host the Festival AFTERPARTY, featuring an Allstar Jam Session and DJ dance party.  Sunday, September 7 will offer a day of yoga at Yoga Flow Castro hosted by Power to the Peaceful Yoga. PTTP is committed to working with the best teachers available to provide free yoga to those in need and to bring yoga to people and places around the world (prisons, schools, developing nations) who have never had the opportunity to experience its many benefits. Visit www.powertothepeaceful.org/yoga for class schedule and other details.  Again this year, Conscious Alliance will host a Food Drive.  PTTP attendees are encouraged to bring ten non-perishable food items to redeem for an exclusive PTTP Food Drive Poster.  All donations will go to benefit the San Francisco Food Bank (www.SFfoodbank.com).

Past artists and speakers of the event include: Indigo Girls, The String Cheese Incident, John Butler Trio, KRS-1, Digital Underground, Woody Harrelson, Angela Davis, Saul Williams, Dennis Kucinich, Ram Das, Blackalicious, Alice Walker, Talib Kweli, The Coup, Keller Williams, DJ Spooky, Lyrics Born, graffiti artist Vulcan, Youth Speaks Poets, Julia Butterfly Hill, and many more.

International recognition of this event reached a new level in 2007, when PTTP went abroad, initiating events in both South America and Africa. One of the most moving and politically charged writers, Michael Franti and his band Spearhead, return with their eagerly-awaited album, All Rebel Rockers, on September 9, via Anti-Records. Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, with reggae's most prolific production teams, Sly & Robbie (No Doubt, Alicia Keys, Sean Paul, Bob Dylan), this new release deviates from Franti's previous sound and comprises a hybrid dub-infused soul flavor with some hard-hitting dub rock production. Alongside Dave Shul (guitars), Manas Itene (drums), Carl Young (bass) and Raleigh Neal (keyboards), the album also features ZapMama founder Marie Daulne and Jamaican soul/dancehall star Cherine Anderson.

The 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival (PTTP) has become a premiere San Francisco tradition in its tenth year and is one of the largest free annual music, art and action events in the U.S. with over 60,000 attendees, 200 exhibitors/vendors, international musicians, DJs, athletes, artists and speakers.

We strive to make each of our events more energy efficient than the last by constantly finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint as well as highlighting new energy efficient technologies.

Michael Franti (PTTP Founder, Creative Director, Producer) is an internationally-renowned musician, filmmaker, human rights worker and speaker and is a leading voice in social justice, the peace movement, death penalty issues, prison reform and and advocate for independent media. Rolling Stone defined the San Francisco-based artist as "one of this generation's most prolific, staunchest and outspoken poets of lyrical conscience."  Michael has shared the stage with award winning and legendary voices for change such as Gloria Steinem, Angela Davis, Amy Goodman, Hurricane Carter, Danny Glover, Woody Harrelson, Ralph Nader and Bill Maher and has given addresses at Yale, Princeton, Georgetown and Fordham Universities. In 2002, Franti received the Humanitarian of the Year Award presented by the international organization Global Exchange.

Power to the Peaceful Yoga is committed to creating an awakening in fellow yogis to take its practices off the mat and into the world through personal peace, non-violence, world awareness, tolerance and sustainability. Its goal is to make yoga available to as many first time yogis as well as long term practitioners through teaching that is considerate of all levels. JAKE LA BOTZ'S 2nd ANNUAL “TATTOO ACROSS AMERICA TOUR”

Photo By Markus Cuff- for the Grateful Web

Jake La Botz has stolen and lived in cars, learned to play blues from the last of the Delta greats (Robert Johnson protégé David "Honeyboy" Edwards), performed in a South Central L.A. church band, acted in indie films and even auditioned for the band Velvet Revolver. Author Jerry Stahl once said of the post-modern bluesman, "Not everybody will get [his music] because not everybody's ready for the truth."

And on September 15, La Botz will reprise his innovative "Tattoo Across America Tour," playing tattoo parlors in 21 cities. The tour starts in West Hollywood (Shamrock Social Club) on Saturday, September 15 and wends it way across 21 U.S. cities coast to coast until an October 15 closing date near Pueblo, Colorado. Among his destinations are Chicago, Austin, Dallas, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Denver, Tampa, Phoenix and Orlando.

La Botz has engendered a loyal fan base of tattoo aficionados across the U.S., arising from last year's tour as well as from his acting role in Steve Buscemi's cult film Animal Factory. Although he has not ruled out playing traditional clubs, he says, "Musicians don't have to be tied down to the bar touring scenario any longer. There's another way to tour. I encourage artists to think about who their fans are, or will be, and find a new way to get to them."

"It's so much more interesting this way," he adds. "You can be who you really are and relate directly with your fans. At tattoo parlors, there are no dressing rooms, no backstage, nowhere to hide. You really get to know people. In a way, I developed this ethic playing in the streets and subways of [his native] Chicago. This approach to performing has a way of cutting through any sense of artistic hierarchy . . .keeps it real."

La Botz, who self-administered his first tattoo at age 14 ("street style . . . India ink with a sewing needle") and has since received dozens more through his friendships with tattoo artists over the years, has garnered a following in the body-art community. "I'd been getting emails from tattoo shops and tattooed fans for a while, which made me think, 'I should really pay attention to this connection'," he says. "I figured that me and the other tattoo people are somewhat on the fringe of the music and art worlds, so why not do a tour on the fringe?" A notice was fired over his MySpace site, and La Botz became flooded with emails.

In September 2006, he set out to play his first "Tattoo Across America Tour," and received ink in several cities, in more ways than one: "La Botz avoids the mainstream like a Dracula avoids the dawn," wrote the Macon Telegraph. The hometown Los Angeles Times added: "La Botz's music may be on the fringes, but that is only because the mainstream is so out of touch with art born from American roots. His tunes are plain and homespun, and often darkly humorous." The Chicago Sun-Times wrote: "La Botz is skilled at crafting talking-blues numbers that are pure poetry. His storytelling roots lie deep in the Delta and Piedmont, and his material is at once timeless and totally fresh." And, added the Nashville Scen e: "The songs pierce and scrape at the listener's skin like the needle of a tattoo gun, his harsh, grainy rasp — not unlike Tom Waits' — spewing forth blunt, morbid narratives about threadbare lives and the nearness of the grave."

In addition to his ever-mounting indie music following, La Botz is also known to indie film connoisseurs. Director/actor Steve Buscemi cast him in Animal Factory and his later film Lonesome Jim. More recently Jake starred in Joe D'Augustine's comedy, One Night With You, which is making the film festival circuit. He also appeared in the arthouse classic Ghost World (starring Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson and Steve Buscemi) as a member of the blooze band from hell, Blues Hammer. And he just returned from 3 months in Thailand where he filmed John Rambo, fourth in the Rambo franchise, in which he plays a mercenary named Tombstone. After casting him in the role, director Sylvester Stallone heard Jake's CD Graveyard Jones and asked him to sing two original songs on camera. The Lions Gate film is slated for theatrical release in March 2008.

La Botz is also involved in the making of his own film about music and tattoos, which he and director Jeffry Gonzales will shoot during the 21-city "Tattoo Across America Tour," armed only with two guitars, camera equipment and a passenger car.

Announcing The 9th Annual Taos Solar Music Festival

Todd Park Mohr- for the Grateful Web

Each year, through the universal language of music, the Taos Solar Music Festival celebrates sun and renewable energy, and continues to be the festival of choice for music fans around the country who share an environmental consciousness and zealousness about this community we call Earth.

Now in its ninth year, the Taos Solar Music Festival is quite likely one of the music industry's original Green events.  Hosting attendees from over 30 U.S. States and internationally reputed for blazing a trail in awareness for solar energy, the Taos Solar Music Festival honors the unparalleled contributive power of the sun with three days of eclectic music, interactive exhibits and activities, and much more.  Attracting over 5,000 people annually from all over the country, the festival's main stage is powered through the use of photovoltaic panels. As always, the Solar Village, located on Solar Fest grounds and free/open to the public, will feature booths and demonstrations designed to inform and expose alternative and renewable energy sources and solutions. Festival producer Dawn Richardson explains, "We're really proud of the Solar Village – and hope that it helps to inspire and nurture sustainable communities in the region and throughout the nation.  We think the Solar Village is what makes this festival stand out from so many others around the country." This year, the Solar Musical Festival's Solar Village will be one of only a handful of places to find Toyota's Mobile Hybrid Experience, which will be on site showcasing their Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive vehicles. Stay tuned at www.solarmusicfest.com for additional details on Solar Village specifics.

The festival's complete musical lineup will be revealed in the coming weeks.  For now, let it be known that Big Head Todd and the Monsters will kick off the weekend on Friday, June 29. Front man Todd Park Mohr, a long-time renewable energy advocate himself, says, "We always look forward to playing Solar Fest in Taos.  It is a beautiful setting with a great lineup of artists alongside a much needed plug for solar energy and environmental awareness.  It is always a raucous celebration!"  Also on the bill, Michael Franti & Spearhead and John Butler Trio. Additional artists TBA.

A premier vacation spot for the entire Four Corners region and beyond, Taos can be accessed through some of the most scenic and majestic highways and byways of America. A fun road trip and weekend getaway for family and friends, the festival is just a four to five hour drive from the Denver area, just over two hours from Albuquerque, or a day's jaunt from northern Texas.
