Cloud Control Premiere New Track "Mediation" & US Dates

With affirmation of their brilliance in from their homeland, being awarded the critically acclaimed Australian Music Award Cloud Control are set to unleash their stellar collection of quirky layered harmonic psyche-pop on the rest of the world.
Cloud Control signed to bespoke independent label Infectious Music in 2010, and very quickly the tightly packed four-piece from the picturesque and rugged terrains of Australia’s Blue Mountains started to turn heads with the NME claiming “We’ve got a new bunch of favorite fuzzlings, and their name is Cloud Control” and noted BBC Radio 1 D.J Nick Grimshaw hailing Bliss Release the bands debut long-player “perfect for summer time”.
The first part 2011 has seen Cloud Control complete a string of live shows on both sides of the Atlantic, including a grueling nine show campaign at SXSW in Austin Texas and support slots in the UK with Noah & the Whale, Mona and the Naked and Famous. During this first visit to Europe, respected Dutch music title Oor Magazine noted “Cloud Control is setting a foundation for an undoubtedly successful music year for them in Europe. Let The Vaccines, Mona and the rest fight over being newcomer of the year. Here in Paradiso stood one of the festival hits of 2011.”
With their amps still steaming Cloud Control jetted back to the UK for their debut headline tour in April, which ended triumphantly in front of a sold-out crowd at venue XOYO in London’s East End. And it seems as the weeks continue to unfold towards the UK & EU release of ‘Bliss Release’ on May 23rd, more and more people are professing their love for the group, including Huw Stephens from BBC Radio 1 who tweeted “Watching Cloud Control filling the breathtaking Koko venue with their stomping harmonious beauty” and Drowned In Sound who declared “Cloud Control have made a tremendously enjoyable album.”
Keep a close eye on Cloud Control this summer who play a slew of festival dates that already include Great Escape, Hop Farm and Field Day Festivals in the UK and the likes of Lowlands, London Calling, Hurricane & Southside and Les Rock Dans Tous Ses Etats in Europe. The band will be back in the US this Summer playing shows in New York and LA.

Whatever’s On Your Mind is due on June 21, 2011 on ATO Records; pre-order the album now. Their first single from the new collection, “Options”, is available on iTunes now. You can stream the song here.
With a performance in the Dave Matthews Band Caravan and a stop at NYC’s Terminal 5, the band will be making their way through a multitude of cities for their July run of dates in support of the album. Gomez’ live shows are legendary – the band defies genres and labels and in doing so have quietly built a massive audience by consistently transporting listeners into a state of head-bobbing bliss. With their signature vocals and song stylings in full effect on this album, you can count on electrifying performances that show the true musicality of the band, exemplified by their time-tested, audience-approved live shows.
Serving as the follow-up to their acclaimed 2009 release, A New Tide their forthcoming album sees Gomez (Ben Ottewell, Tom Gray, Paul “Blackie” Blackburn, Ian Ball and Olly Peacock) pushing their limits in a way we have not yet heard. The band partnered up with longtime friend, Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet) to co-produce and sought out to feature other artist friends on the record, Luke Steele (Empire of the Sun, Sleepy Jackson) and  Stuart Bogie (Antibalas, TV on the Radio, Iron and Wine).

Whatever’s On Your Mind, their first self-produced offering since 2001’s In Our Gun, finds Gomez driving forward on a beautifully lush and dynamic album. There is a fresh feeling of rebirth and awakening. One to raise a smile even from the naysayers. A broad grin from the rest of us.

Full list of announced dates are below with more to be announced soon, including west coast, rocky mountain and northwest shows.

The NEW DEAL announces the end of a spectacular 12- year career

The NEW DEAL announces the end of a spectacular 12- year career with a strong run of shows that will wrap up in the fall.

It has been an amazing run for the band and we appreciate the loyal and dedicated tND fanbase across North America and Asia. Our individual lives have taken very different paths with family, living abroad, and other various projects. We have come to a point where the time and commitment that it takes to maintain our band at its best is no longer possible. As a group, we’ve never been known to go halfway, so we have decided to end things with a great run of summer and fall shows that we hope to be the best yet.

Over the next several months, TND will return to the East Coast. The final Summer and Fall 2011 shows will bring us to many of our favorite places in the US and Canada, and we’re looking forward to finishing things off in a big way.

We look forward to each and every one of these very special shows. Our fans have been fantastically devoted and supportive, and we hope to give them a final run of performances that will be truly memorable.

In addition to the summer shows and festivals already announced, we expect to add a few more dates to give as many fans as possible the opportunity to see us play together one last time.

Much love,
Darren, Dan and Jamie

The Mynabirds Play With/Open For Bright Eyes

While front woman Laura Burhenn has been touring as a member of Bright Eyes, the Mynabirds have been anything but quiet. Last month they opened a string of shows for Bright Eyes, adding Richard Swift, producer of their 2010 release What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood, to the band's line-up. Photographer/filmmaker Shervin Lainez was on hand to capture some great behind-the-scenes footage of the tour and set it to WWLITFWGITF's "LA Rain". Mini tour documentary, music video -- call it what you like. You can watch it in all its black and white glory HERE.

If you're itching for some new Mynabirds material, keep your eyes and ears open. Laura's hard at work on new songs, even in the midst of the busy Bright Eyes touring schedule. This September, the Mynabirds will meet up with Richard Swift again in Oregon to record their second album. And they couldn't be happier.

Til the Mynabirds next release is fleshed out and pressed, enjoy that mini tour doc/"LA Rain" video. And say "Hi" to Laura if you make it to any of the Bright Eyes shows this year!

Leftover Salmon Announces 2011 River Run

Summer is in the air, and with that Leftover Salmon is pleased to announce three special shows at some of the most cherished and unique venues Colorado has to offer. On June 10th & 11th, Leftover Salmon performs a two night run in the Poudre Canyon at the newly owned and operated Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellvue, CO.

On June 12th the festivities travel to the new State Bridge Amphitheatre in Bond, CO to honor & revisit a celebrated tradition. This intimate venue on the Colorado River holds a considerable amount of history in the Colorado music scene and was the site of many memorable LOS shows in the group’s early years. A devastating fire took the property in 2007, but the revered venue will return this summer. Leftover Salmon is honored to be performing the Grand Re-Opening Party at The New State Bridge Amphitheatre.

Fan ticketing on sale date for all shows is Saturday April 2nd.  Public on sale for State Bridge is Monday April 4th and Mishawaka Amphitheatre is Wednesday April 13th.

Sid Griffin & the Coal Porters come to Western USA

Musician/writer/author/broadcaster Sid Griffin rose to fame in Los Angeles as leader of Island recording artists the Long Ryders, one of the first bands of the alt-rock era to incorporate the influences of Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Byrds. Yet in recent years, he’s made his home in London, where he leads the Coal Porters. The band has played only a limited number of American shows since their formation in the 90s.

This spring, the Coal Porters will return to the scene of the crime — Los Angeles and the West Coast — where they will play three shows in the L.A. area, one in San Francisco and a coveted spot at the Stagecoach festival on Sunday, May 1.

When the Ryders ended, native Kentuckian Griffin formed the Coal Porters, which initially had a fluid lineup, and relocated from L.A. to London, where he hooked up with Scottish stand-up comedian Neil Robert Herd (sound engineer on Wasp, Best Live Action Short Film winner at the 2004 Academy Awards). The duo started out playing electric, but quickly tired of hauling around amps and drums. As a result of a dare, the Coal Porters decided to play acoustic bluegrass versions of their material at a charity concert in London. The crowd reaction affirmed that the band had found its true calling and said goodbye to electric instrumentation forever.  En route from then to now they picked up Canadian fiddle virtuoso Carly Frey and London’s noted local attorney and doghouse bassist Andrew Stafford. In 2010 they were blessed to secure the services of one of Britain’s best young banjo players, John Breese. With this impressive lineup, the Coal Porters were ready to take on the world.

With a published author, a professional comedian and a barrister in their ranks they are the only band who can sue themselves over copyright and joke about it.

In April 2009, after traveling halfway across the globe, the Coal Porters arrived outside of Durango, Colorado, played two killer shows at the famous MeltDown Festival (Colorado’s answer to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco), and laid down the tracks to their first album in two years. Durango was recorded in two weeks in the Colorado mountains at the Kozy Tone Studio of legendary producer Ed Stasium (Ramones, Mick Jagger, Phil Spector, Smithereens, Belinda Carlisle, Jeff Healey Band, and the Long Ryders).∂ƒƒ The entire album was cut Basement Tapes style, with the same authenticity of Dylan and The Band. Everyone crowded in one room. Overdubs were few and laughter frequent.

Durango was released in January 2010. It faithfully represents the Coal Porters’ hot live act, and creates new moods of its own. This highly anticipated follow-up to 2007’s Turn the Water On, Boy! is a clear country-mile step forward, evoking the sounds of a bluegrass Clash, or a Bill Monroe for the 21st century.

David Fricke wrote in Rolling Stone, “The Coal Porters [have] been going for nearly two decades . . . and [have] evolved from a deeper mining of the country in the Ryders’ acid-tinted drive to a pure acoustic bluegrass written and played with natural — in Griffin’s case, native — flair on Durango.”

Fricke appeared with Griffin in a one-on-one interview panel at the Americana Music Festival & Conference, held in Nashville in September 2010.

Awarding Durango four stars in March 2010, MOJO magazine said: “The audio equivalent of a feel-good movie . . . recorded all in one room, with everyone as much intent on capturing the vibes as much as the undoubted quality of the music . . . gorgeous.”

Blurt noted, “Seven albums on, the Coal Porters have a reputation they can bank on. And with Durango this durable bunch has successfully added even more fuel to their fire.”

The Coal Porters are five musicians from four different parts of the planet who came together as an incredibly powerful fusion of talent, the world’s first “alt-bluegrass” act.

“For all the satisfaction of success in Europe and becoming the UK’s leading ‘alt-bluegrass’ ensemble,” says Griffin, “there is nothing to compare to the Coal Porters heading for my musical home in California. My days in Los Angeles with the Long Ryders were so wonderful and I was so blessed with so many friends that it is high time I took the band to the left coast to show ’em all what we can do. I am extremely proud of my time in the Golden State and extremely proud of the music my Coal Porters are making right now so to put the two together is gonna be a true, true week to remember.”
