Matt White Releases "It's the Good Crazy"

On his sophomore record, singer/songwriter and piano phenom Matt White is bringing the “good crazy”—his second album is a combination of propulsive piano playing and sly lyrics that takes listeners on a wild romp through the Big Apple and beyond. It’s The Good Crazy is out now via Ryko Records.
The album is highlighted by tracks like the first single, “Falling in Love (With My Best Friend),” a pop fueled love letter showcasing Matt’s vocal range as he reaches infectious falsettos. During "She's On Fire," Matt's robust baritone takes over on the sensual and soulful slow down, while "Taking On Water" dives deep into meandering emotions with an epic melody. The resulting album is an eclectic and intoxicatingly addictive mix of sounds and passion.
Working with a dedicated team of producers, including David Baron and Henry Hirsch [Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, Mick Jagger], Matt took an old school approach to his new material.  For much of the album, Matt, Baron and Hirsch retreated to a church in Woodstock, NY to record on the same board that Led Zeppelin II was recorded on and tracking to what might be one of the last 3M tape machines left in existence.  Breaking away from modern trends, Matt recorded the entire album on analog tape, allowing any and all happy accidents to stay in the songs.
"All of the albums I love were done that way. With tape, there’s a depth in the sound wave that you can't capture digitally. There were no computers, no Pro Tools and no room for error. If I screwed up, it's on there," says Matt.
Since debuting in 2007, Matt's music has been featured in numerous films, TV shows and commercials including What Happens In Vegas, Shrek, The Third, McDonald's, The Hills, Brothers and Sisters and One Tree Hill.  The singer/songwriter has toured and performed alongside everyone from B.B. King and Sheryl Crow to John Mayer and Counting Crows.  In addition, his "Songs Of Freedom" became the theme for Gap's "Vote For" campaign, airing on a special electoral episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show.  His debut album Best Days also hit #4 on Billboard's New Artist chart and received acclaim from RollingStone and Details. Selling 400,000 digital downloads, he's cultivated a diehard fan base that has remained loyal since he first hit the music scene.

Girl Talk Releases NYE Chicago Documentary

In the first few days of 2010, we shared news of Girl Talk’s mind-blowing, over-the-top New Year’s Eve extravaganza, where he threw one of the largest house parties the world has seen to celebrate the end of the decade. With so much time and effort put into making this such an extraordinary night, Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) and his crew decided not just those in attendance, but all Girl Talk fans, should have a chance to see the insanity. The planning and show was documented on multiple HD cameras, and has now been made into a short film that’s almost ready to be shared. You can get a sneak peek of “Girl Talk NYE Chicago” by checking out the trailer here.

To give you an idea, here’s what went down: As a surprise to the 4,500-capacity Congress Theatre audience in Chicago, Girl Talk had a two-story, five room house built on stage. This house took months to plan, and 4+ full days and 21+ crewmembers to build. Girl Talk and the set designers seriously took things to the next level when it came to the detail that went into each aspect of the house. They drywalled the rooms, made a real staircase, and fake wooden floors, built a kitchen that included a refrigerator with a note stuck on the door, and a table with a fruit bowl, blender and more, a living room that included a hutch filled with china, fireplace, couch, coffee table, rug, picture frames and more, the kid's room had a bed, desk, computer and mouse, pencil jar, trophy, amongst other items, and the bathroom featured a real toilet, sink, shower and curtain. Plus, outside the house, there were even fake trees lining the yard, and a rock was placed in front of the house covering the table Girl Talk works on. The lights constructed on the outside and inside of the house, including an LCD curtain surrounding the house to make it look like the night sky, and all over the venue, were equally elaborate. When the house was first presented to the audience, only a few lamps inside each room were turned on, however, as the night neared midnight, the house counted down from 9 to 0, and then once midnight hit, the house came alive as lights all over the house, inside and out, shown bright. The kitchen floor eventually lit up turning into a disco-dance floor, the entire bathroom could strobe any color, the computer in the kid’s room had an LED light attached to it, and intense lights came from the fireplace. There were also special lights strategically hidden all over the venue that were active and radiant throughout the night. Check out stills from the film below.

Girl Talk has been on the road nonstop since Feed The Animals was released in June 2008. After playing over 240 shows and rarely taking more than five days off at a time, Gregg has finally taken a break for most of the summer to work on his next album, which will be unleashed upon the world in early 2011. Stay tuned for more details!

Girl Talk Upcoming Shows:

Fri. Oct. 29 – Asheville, NC @ MoogFest

Sat. Nov. 20 – Sao Paulo, Brasil @ Planeta Terra Festival w/ Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement

Kyle Park To Release FALL EP on September 21

Country singer Kyle Park, who believes his fans deserve more than one album every 12 months, will release on September 21 his second EP this year that will ultimately become the foundation of a full-length album he will release in 2011.

The featured single from Park’s FALL EP is “All Night,” a love song with smart lyrics about how long it might take to heal a broken heart, with or without a new paramour. Again, Park’s pure country voice and pure country vibe shine through in his modern country, “rock with a twang” style.

Park spent the year touring, and he will continue on the road behind the new release. The recording artist routinely plays 200 shows a year in venues, music festivals and intimate honky-tonks, in all corners of the Lone Star State.

As Robert K. Oermann of MusicRow advises, “Lend him your ears.”

Conceived in 2008, Big Gigantic found their niche and created a name for themselves in the electronic music scene by combining vibrant jazz melodies over pulsating dance beats to deliver an innovative, distinct sound that's all their own.  Big Gigantic made a profound impact on the scene as they began playing modest gigs around their home state of Colorado, almost instantaneously started to headline shows in clubs around the country and also, made a splash at major festivals, including Lightning in a Bottle, Wakarusa, ROTHBURY, and more. Consistent touring has given the band a chance to hone their musicianship as well as diversify and perfect their live performance. Big Gigantic showcases an amplified array of compositions that combine elements of a DJ and live band, leaving fans from coast to coast anticipating more.

Formerly the Warlocks...always The Dead

If you weren't in the know in Southern Virginia in early October of 1989, then you probably missed an epic pair of "stealth" shows the Dead played under the guise of their original name "The Warlocks." As The Warlocks, the boys found a way around their town ban and we've found a way to bring you those historic October 8 & 9, 1989 Hampton Coliseum shows as the latest in a distinguished line of complete-run boxes.

That's right, the Warlocks Box showcases every note of the band's two magical nights at Hampton Coliseum, spread over six CDs. From a "revival" of old favorites including the elusive "Dark Star," and the long-lost "Attics of My Life" (unplayed since 1972!) to crowd-pleasing nuggets like the spectacular "Morning Dew," the raucous "I Need a Miracle," and the incendiary Brent/Phil stomper "Gimme Some Lovin'," this collection offers up a veritable career retrospective. And quite a transcendent one at that!

Mixed from the original 24-track analog and mastered to HDCD specifications and packaged in a wooden cigar box filled with photos, essays, and cool memorabilia, this one's a potent blast of the late '80s Dead you won't want to miss.

"U.K.'S MOST ORIGINAL BAND" FLIPRON

Flipron, the British quartet that has been described as "Tom Waits meets The Kinks on a carnival midway," will make their U.S. debut in September with a string of showcase dates that begin in New York at The Bitter End on September 11.  Drawing on diverse musical influences as far-ranging as 1920's Hawaiian Steel guitar rags, laid-back Western Swing, Klezmer stomps and old-time folk ballads, Flipron are known as brilliant wordsmiths and entertaining eccentrics.  Their milieu is classic rock songs that take winding, unexpected turns, as evidenced on the newly-released sampler CD, WITH BREATH BATED AND EYELIDS UNBLINKING, which was specially compiled for the U.S. shows with selections from the band's three studio albums.

Before arriving in the U.S., the band played several high profile summer shows in the U.K., including a 10-date stint at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival and an appearance at the prestigious Glastonbury Festival that takes place annually in the band's hometown.  Flipron have played the Glastonbury Festival (this year's Festival was attended by over 150,000 people) six years in a row, with 2008 seeing them play a record 10 shows on separate stages at the event.

Signed in the U.K. to independent Tiny Dog Records and hailed by the British press as "the most original band in the UK," Flipron is a band that continually marches to the beat of their own drummer.  As example, the video for their new single, "The Coolest Names in Showbiz," was shot on location in Dorset and made for a whopping £80 using one light borrowed from videographer Alex Heath.   The video, in which members of the band tie frontman and songwriter Jesse Budd to a chair and cut off his curly mop of hair, can be viewed on YouTube. The song, which includes lyrics like "Your mouth is doing business in some well paid conversation/while a million pigeons launch in geometrical formations and hanging high above your head," is about "sacrificing an easy life to discover what you might really be capable of," according to the band.  "We at least discovered that the strutting, curly haired singer was capable of having his hair cut."  "The Coolest Names in Showbiz" is included on the BREATH BATED sampler.  It is available from iTunes and other digital outlets.

Flipron comprises Jesse Budd (vocals, guitar, mandolin, lap steel, accordion); Joe Atkinson (organ, piano, backing vocals), Mike Chitty (drums) and John Thompson (electric bass).  They are poised to conquer America with their unconventional approach to music.

Their scheduled U.S. appearances are as follows:  September 11-The Bitter End, New York; 14-Hotel Café, Los Angeles; 16-3rd and Lindsley, Nashville; and 17--World Cafe Live, Philadelphia.
