AgesandAges & Blitzen Trapper on Tour Now!

Portland 7-piece AgesandAges are heading out for dates with Blitzen Trapper in July 2011 to support their debut album, Alright You Restless, out now on Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory Records. Alright You Restless is a rallying cry to like-minded souls. With a charmingly loose but clever pop sensibility the album is filled with lyrical references to voluntary seclusion, communal living and an existence “under the radar,” all the while extending an invitation to join their fold.

The band’s chief songwriter and founder, Tim Perry, says that forming AgesandAges was an attempt to combat being jaded, aconscious decision to “remove myself from the apathy crowd, which was sucking my soul, and make something with others who were just as unapologetically excited to be there as I was.   I think of it kind oflike propaganda rock.  They will never understand you.  But we understand each other.”

The Grownup Noise Announce Summer Tour

Four years and five national tours since the release of their last album, The Grownup Noise’s latest record, This Time With Feeling, has definitely proven itself to be worth the wait. Carefully blending elements of pop, folk and rock, the band bridges the gap between indie and Americana. The record was mixed in North Carolina by studio master Scott Solter (Spoon, Okkervil River). Fusing tranquil lyrics and harmonies with an assortment of orchestrated flourishes including cellos, pianos and accordions, all five members of The Grownup Noise are multi-instrumentalists.

The album opens with “Strawmen,” a lush arrangement that evokes feelings of peace and clarity. The playful “Six Foot Solemn Oath” immediately launches into a duet lead by intertwining piano and strings. “Carnival” lifts the tempo with a powerful folk-rock hook and lyrics that tell the tale of a magical love. Sorrowful lead single “The Artist Type” boasts an irresistible melody, expertly uniting gentle string arrangements and booming piano.

Check out “The Artist Type” MP3 HERE.

The Grownup Noise will kick off a national summer tour in support of This Time With Feeling. Described by the Portland Press Herald as combining “smart lyrics with keen vocals” and adding that “its songs are doses of melodic sunshine,” the Boston-based quintet offer a kinetic, emotional warmth. Catch them live in your city!

The Dodos Announce U.S. & European 2011 Tour Dates

The drums hit you in the chest first, spraying your speakers like swift gunshots.

The Builders & The Butchers: 'Lullaby' Song Premiere

Today The Builders and the Butchers premiered "Lullaby," the first song off their upcoming third album Dead Reckoning, on My Old Kentucky Blog. The urgent, ominous track can now be heard and downloaded here. Dead Reckoning will be released February 22nd, 2011 on Badman Recording Co.

The Builders will also head out on tour in support of friends Murder By Death early next month. The month-long string of dates begins February 1st at Cosmic Charlie's in Lexington, KY, and wraps up February 20th at The Waiting Room in Omaha, NE, and includes a hometown album release show February 15th at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR.

Dead Reckoning is a bold and dynamic set of 12 tracks, a raucous musical blend that culls from folk, back porch bluegrass, and unplugged blues. Led by Ryan Sollee's fervent vocals and the big drum sound of the deconstructed kit split between Brandon Hafer and Ray Rude, the album ranges from pounding anti-anthems to more subdued, haunting tracks to gospel-tinged laments. Sollee, writing against the backdrop of the recent downturn, found himself relating to and drawing inspiration from American music of the 1930s. The timeless songs on Dead Reckoning follow suit, weaving gothic stories with common threads like absolute good and evil, addiction, religion, and the father and the son. The album was recorded predominantly live over eight days in Portland with the help of Adam Selzer (The Decemberists, M. Ward, She & Him) and engineer Dylan Magierek (Mark Kozelek, Starfucker, Thao Nguyen), in effort to finally capture the unbridled energy of The Builders' renowned live show.

Girl Talk Announces Gigantic 2011 Tour!

Almost 300 shows under his belt, and hardly a full week off, since Feed The Animals was released in June 2008 and Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) is primed to announce another 40-city tour, all set to take place in 2011 before March is even over! Whether it be performing at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, throwing the biggest house party New Year’s Eve (or anyone) has ever seen, setting off fireworks to end shows in Houston or San Francisco, or balloon drops in Chicago, New York and beyond, celebrating election night in Milwaukee, playing to colleges of all sizes, christening Pittsburgh’s new Stage AE venue, or stealing the show at festivals across the globe, Gillis has proved he works (and sweats) his ass off, and knows how to give people an exceptionally awesome time. Now, with this forthcoming tour on the horizon, he’s ready to multiply the fun with a whole new slew of ideas, and start 2011 off right!

Rubber Soulive Tour Kicks Off This Weekend

Soulive has announced U.S. tour dates for the remainder of 2010 in support of their ninth studio album, Rubber Soulive. The 27-show run kicks off this weekend with a New York City hometown blow out dubbed The Royal Family Ball at Terminal 5, featuring special guests John Scofield, Talib Kweli, Christian Scott, Big Sam and Maurice Brown, as well as Royal Family crew Nigel Hall, Lettuce and The Shady Horns. Other highlights include festival appearances at Bear Creek Festival and Clearwater Jazz Festival, stops throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West Coast and a handful of two-night stands, including Port City Music Hall in Portland, Higher Ground in Burlington, The Independent in San Francisco, Cervante's in Denver and a New Year's Eve celebration at Paradise in Boston.

The Brooklyn-based soul-funk trio just released Rubber Soulive, a tribute to The Beatles, which went to no. 1 on the iTunes jazz chart. The 11-track collection features Soulive's inimitable interpretations of Fab Four classics like "In My Life," "Eleanor Rigby" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." The band cut the album at their recording facility, Playonbrother Studios, and will release the effort through their own label, Royal Family Records. After a series of albums on major labels that experimented with guest vocalists, DJs and horn sections, Rubber Soulive signals a return to the band's roots with founding members Eric Krasno, Neal Evans and Alan Evans front and center and all operations under their own roof.

In early reviews of Rubber Soulive, All Music Guide declared "Like the Liverpool lads who intuitively meshed together, Soulive's members interlock to yield results greater than the sum of its parts on this successful tribute that combines the Beatles sense of excitement, imagination and musical exploration with a funky, down home, R&B/jazz groove." While Something Else blog wrote, "In bringing back some of the great tunes of The Beatles, Soulive brought themselves back to their no-frills, greasy early days when they were busting their collective tails to make a name for themselves."
