Guster releases new EP, kicks off Tour with Jack's Mannequin

Today marks the release of On The Ocean, the new EP from iconic alt-pop outfit Guster. Guster has been growing their cult-like fanbase for over 15 years now, and as evident by their latest album Easy Wonderful, they are only getting better. This 6 song collection features previously unreleased tracks as well as a few acoustic versions and remixes of songs that will be familiar to Guster fans.  While the EP is available from your traditional digital outlets such as itunes and amazon, the band will hold true to their progressive nature, making physical copies of the album only available from independent retailers and at the shows themselves.

Gathering of the Vibes Gears Up For Record Attendance

With 25,000 attendees expected per day, the 16th Annual Gathering of the Vibes music, arts and camping festival and the City of Bridgeport prepare for larger than expected crowds along the 370-acre waterfront of Seaside Park.

“We are working with the city parks department to make sure that everybody who comes to the Vibes has an amazing experience,” says festival promoter Ken Hays.  “We’ve secured more parking lots, shuttle buses, porto-lets and increased safety patrols,” Hays added.

The Vibes 2011 line-up includes Los Angeles rockers Jane’s Addiction, Elvis Costello and the Imposters, FURTHUR featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, Dr. John & the Lower 911, The Taj Mahal Trio, Levon Helm Band, Toots and the Maytals, Tedeschi Trucks Band and moe. alongside 50 bands performing on 4 stages. The complete schedule of performances can be found at www.GOVIBES.com.

What differentiates the Vibes from other music festivals is its multi-generational fan base. With so much global uncertainty flooding the air waves, the festival offers families an opportunity to get away and reflect upon what’s truly important; family, friends, live music and community.  Last year, 2,300 children accompanied their parents to the musical retreat. Gathering of the Vibes 2011 proudly partners with the nation’s top performance based musical academy, School of Rock, and also KORG USA, Lag Guitars, Vox, Blackstar, and Zildjian to create a truly interactive Rock and Roll performance space for kids and their parents to enjoy.  This year, Kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by parents, and on Sunday, “Family Day at the Vibes,” kids 15 and under are admitted free of charge.

Vibes continues to “give back” to the local Bridgeport community in the form of a $100,000 donation that facilitated the construction of a splash pad on the city’s east end.  A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, July 15th, celebrating the official opening of the water park just in time for families not fortunate enough to have parks and playgrounds within walking distance.

“Giving back has always been important an important part of the Vibes and the response to the water park has been overwhelming,” shared Hays.  “There are so many needs in the community and in the words of Jerry Garcia, “you just gotta’ poke around” to find a way to make a positive difference.”

Gathering of the Vibes began in 1996 as a celebration of the life of Jerry Garcia who had passed away the previous summer. Initially named “Deadhead Heaven,” the festival continues to be an annual forum for fans across the country to remember the counter-cultural icon.  Gathering of the Vibes combines legendary artists with emerging acts to appeal to a wide cross-section of live music enthusiasts.

Although VIP tickets are sold out, a limited number of camping tickets and single day passes are still available at prices ranging from $20 on Sunday for Connecticut residents to $225 for the full weekend camping package. Ticket prices and information can be found at www.GOVIBES.com.

3rd Annual Bluegrass & Beyond Music and Art Festival lineup

The Hatch Family & Pet Projekt are excited to announce the lineup for the 3rd Annual Bluegrass & Beyond Music and Art Festival. This year’s lineup is shaping up to be the best yet with legendary musicians Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, Keller and the Keels, Danny Barnes, Hot Buttered Rum, and many others.  In addition on August 27th the festival focuses on the “beyond” with a late night performance at Mont Bleu Resort featuring The Pimps of Joytime, Eprom & Groove Session. This year’s festival is moving to what is quickly becoming known as one of the most scenic venues in all of the country; pairing great music with the beautiful outdoor setting of Lake Tahoe.

One of the goals in creating the Bluegrass & Beyond Music and Arts Festival is to share this vibrant mountain community and help transform it into a destination for Bluegrass fans across the nation. While the festival started in 2009, this is the first year at this amazing location. The festival started as a one day beer and bluegrass bash on the loading dock of the Mt. Tallac Brwing Co and was organized by South Lake Tahoe musician Andy Hatch and his wife Jenny. But as word of the festival spread it became apparent that a new site would be needed and Tahoe’s Sand Harbor State Park seemed the perfect backdrop. Bluegrass & Beyond is unique in its feel; it is a family event that has had a steady, organic growth because of the honest, authentic flow of events.

Tea Leaf Green pays tribute to the Big Man at the Stone Pony

This past Sunday, Father’s Day, Tea Leaf Green performed at the fabled Stone Pony bar and frequent home of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in what became a tribute concert for legendary saxophonist Clarence Clemons. Springsteen and Clemons met at the Asbury Park bar in 1971, a story both men have told onstage for the past 40 years. Clemons, 69, the “Big Man” in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, died Saturday night.

Fans who came to pay respects were given free admission to evening headliners Tea Leaf Green who showed love and admiration for Clemons. “It was an honor to pay tribute to ‘The Big Man’ at our last show on this leg of the tour,” said guitarist/vocalist Josh Clark. “We saw firsthand how much Asbury Park and the Stone Pony loved him. We listened to him play all day in the van on our way down there.”

Fellow band member Trevor Garrod added, “When we found out Clarence had died we where still a few hours from Asbury Park. It was a beautiful day; the sun was setting into a riot of crimson clouds; flowers and chalk drawings lined the sidewalk outside of the club. The Atlantic Ocean's waves rolled calmly in across the street. Though we where only coming through coincidentally, we nonetheless felt honored to be part of the celebration of this great musician's life. We couldn't help but feel that somehow the universe was encouraging us to keep up this tradition of rock 'n roll. After we played our set, I jumped into the moonlit sea with some kids who had come to watch the show. I couldn't help but wonder if, back in the day, Clarence had ever done the same. He will be missed.”

San Francisco Bay Area troubadours Tea Leaf Green are newfangled Lost Boys, a traveling gang dedicated to seeking wisdom and experience in places both glorious and seedy. The band’s summer tour kicks off on July 2 in Colorado on the heels of its seventh studio album, Radio Tragedy!, freshly released through Thirty Tigers.

In many ways, this quintet is the essence of rock’s adventurous, playfully outlaw spirit, all of which ultimately fuels songs that resonate with classic vibrations, open-ended possibilities and radio-ready charm. With Radio Tragedy!, Tea Leaf Green have made a record that’s both timely and timeless - a strange, beautiful space that they inhabit naturally and gracefully.

DEERHOOF - New 7”s, Reissues, Congotronic Vs. Rockers News & More!

Deerhoof’s Milk Man is being reissued on vinyl in celebration of the band’s upcoming All Tomorrow’s Parties performance of the album this July in London (alongside The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr.).
A 180-gram strawberry vinyl version will be available in stores on July 5th and limited to 1000 copies.
The starting point for Milk Man was a cartoon character created by Japanese artist Ken Kagami, a longtime friend of Deerhoof vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki.
In contrast to the earnest guitar rock that predominated on their previous album Apple O', Milk Man featured a broad palette of orchestral colors, echoes of music theater and camp, polished and gaudy arrangements, Stravinskian harmonies, and a more stylized, anonymous playing style resulting partly from recording most of the instruments at separate times rather than playing together as a band, and partly from many of the arrangements being created in a computer.

Critical praise for Milk Man came notably from NME and Spin, and the song "Milk Man" was chosen in 2009 as one of Pitchfork's top tracks of the decade.
Polyvinyl has a special pre-order package deal on these releases. Visit PolyvinylRecords.com for more information.
