Marty Stuart Reveals Lineup For 10th Annual Late Night Jam

GRAMMY award winner Marty Stuart will host a special 10th Anniversary Late Night Jam on June 8 beginning at 10:00 PM at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.  Country music icons Dolly Parton, Mel Tillis and Connie Smith, along with The Quebe Sisters Band, Doug Kershaw and more surprise guests will be joining Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives for this year’s event.  The Late Night Jam has become the unofficial kick-off of the CMA Music Festival and prior to any lineup information being released, tickets for this year’s event have sold faster than ever before. Proceeds will benefit MusiCares with a portion also going to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

“It's hard to believe that the Late Night Jam is ten years old,” said Stuart.  “I can't help but think back on the first one.  I was nervous; pacing and hoping that we'd have enough people show up.  The show ended up being a sell-out and we’ve been going strong ever since.  That first show was over 25,000 people ago, and it was also many good deeds ago from MusiCares, and a lot of really magical performances ago from some of my dearest musical friends. Every year I say, ‘How can I top that show?’  Somehow it happens and good things result from it. This year will be no different.”

Over the past 10 years, Stuart has brought artists such as Keith Urban, Vince Gill, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels, Porter Wagoner, Neko Case, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jerry Lee Lewis and more to the Ryman stage for a one of a kind marathon jam session all in the name of charity and country music.

Stuart, a stalwart of traditional country music, recently received his fifth career GRAMMY award for “Best Country Instrumental” for “Hummingbyrd,” from his critically acclaimed album GHOST TRAIN (THE STUDIO B SESSIONS).  His TV show, The Marty Stuart Show, continues to bring traditional country music into living rooms across the country every Saturday night on RFD-TV.   Upcoming episodes will feature Brad Paisley, Old Crow Medicine Show, Keith Urban, Paul Shaffer and Travis Tritt.

Morning Teleportation on Letterman Wed | 5/4/11

Morning Teleportation will bring their roller coaster of tumultuous rock 'n' roll and deep-space pickin' 'n' grinnin to The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday, May 4th, marking the band's network television debut. The band will perform the title track off of their debut album, "Expanding Anyway" which was recently released on Glacial Pace Recordings and was produced by label owner Isaac Brock along with Clay Jones.

The album has received rave reviews from the NY Times to SPIN. "Yelping and shouting like a genuine mental case, frontman Tiger Merritt rides a joyously chaotic wave on [the band's] debut," writes Jon Young in SPIN's album review, featured in their April issue. "Morning Teleportation possess their own wacky identity, lurching from avant-garde mischief to pop operatics to folk sweetness." Curious fans can head on over to SPIN.com for an exclusive full album listen by clicking here

This week also marks the band's debut at MTVU as part of their new artists show "The Freshmen." The show spotlights emerging artists on air and online, with the chance for one of the videos to get an automatic add into rotation on the channel the following week. Fans can vote for Morning Teleportation's video for "Expanding Anyway" by clicking all this week. Voting will end on Friday May 6th at 2:00pm EST.

The video for "Expanding Anyway" is a modern psychedilc experience created by Phantasmic, a small and unique visual duo consisting of Tripp and Jenna Watt. Phantasmic hand-crafted every aspect of the project which began with an original list of over 170 different ideas that resulted in 31 final scenes, ranging from watercolor paintings to Crayola marker creatures, acting in tights to choreographed dance numbers.  You can check out the Making Of Video as well the director's cut of the final video.

Morning Teleportation takes their critically acclaimed live show back out on the road on May 18th and will continue to tour throughout the summer. NPR recently selected the band as a must-see in their SXSW preview noting, "It's got this great burst of energy in the vocals, real cacophonous psychedelia." While Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote about the band's live show last year saying, "Morning Teleportation, from Portland, Ore., crammed ideas into songs that leaped impatiently, and gleefully, from style to style." Pareles also recently reviewed the band's debut album noting, "Euphoria and transformation run through Morning Teleportation's debut album, "Expanding Anyway" (Glacial Pace), which puts neat, strategic structure behind its giddy psychedelic cheer."

Austin Indie Singer Suzanna Choffel To Release New Album

Suzanna Choffel, whose dusky vocals are as intriguing as her indie-soul-pop originals and sultry stage presence, releases on Tuesday, May 24, her latest album, STEADY EYE SHAKY BOW, a collection of upbeat melodies and ballads that Choffel describes as “blues-colored dark grit” drawing from musical influences that include Stax-style jazz and Motown R&B.

Choffel and her band — Kyle Thompson on drums, Johnny Vogelsang on bass, Laura Scarborough on vibraphone and synthesizer, and Chris Gebhard on keys and guitar —will make numerous special appearances around the new release. The band recently performed at SXSW Music Festival, including a show at Auditorium Shores with Blue October.

Around the release of STEADY EYE SHAKY BOW Choffel will tour in Texas in May and June, including an Album Release Show in Austin. The album has already yielded “Raincloud,” with its smart, witty lyrics and soulful syncopated sound that is more than pop, the song infused with the flavor of New Orleans with the backing by Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and a video viewed on YouTube more than half a million times.
Another song on the new album is “Archer,” from whence the album’s title comes, a song that exemplifies Choffel’s unique lyrical expression of the emotions inherent in relationships.
Multiple award-winner Choffel was named Indie Artist of the Year at the 2009 Austin Music Awards and won top honors in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

They Might Be Giants "Join Us" Advance Tracks out on iTunes Today

They Might Be Giants new album, Join Us, is the recordings that their fans have been waiting 20 years for! Impossibly catchy, sometimes strange and always original the album is a stunning return to form. On Join Us we find the Brooklyn originals have returned to rock and to their singular sensibility that made them an instant phenomenon in the world of alternative rock. Join Us is an electrifying mix of clever, maddeningly catchy songwriting and studio mastery. The album was created in the brand new private studio of their long-time collaborator Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Mary J. Blige, Tegan and Sara, Doveman). The advance tracks are released digitally today on iTunes through the “Complete My Album” program, with the full album arriving in all digital and physical outlets July 19, 2011 through Idlewild/Rounder Records.

The advance track offering opens with “Can’t Keep Johnny Down”--a summer-perfect pop single that will get instantly stuck in your head and make you want to roll down the windows. The electronic ballad “Never Knew Love” puts a new and simple twist on the love song.  The pure folk-pop of “Old Pine Box” showcases the band's signature harmonies, handclaps and the always popular, never anticipated vocoder. Check out the “Can’t Keep Johnny Down” MP3 HERE.  Feel free to post and share!

They Might Be Giants unlikely success story started nearly three decades ago with their Dial-A-Song service. High energy, low budget videos broke them into heavy rotation on MTV and the rest would soon become alternative rock history.  Along the way the band has become the recipients of two GRAMMYs and a platinum record (1990’s Flood). They recorded numerous themes including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, their GRAMMY-winning theme Malcolm In the Middle and many more.

Notorious for their energized live show, They Might Be Giants will launch the first international tour in over a decade this Fall, hitting 6 countries and over 50 US cities.  Several tour dates have been announces & stay tuned for more details next month.

The Wanee Journals 2011: From Earthtones to Electric Blues- A Colorful Sound Experience

After much coordination and navigation, our group celebrated the successful creation of a small tent/popup, tapestry and solar light embellished village by partaking in a few ice cold libations before heading toward the music. As we walked in the dark down the windy dirt road in the direction of deep rooted bass and canopy swinging melodies, a myriad of bioluminescent extensions of the forest helped to light our way.

Scattered Trees' Sympathy Out Today

Scattered Trees’ highly anticipated new album Sympathy (Roll Call/EMI) hits stores across the country today. In honor of the album’s release, AOL Spinner is currently streaming the album in its entirety — click HERE to listen. The band has also made their anthemic track “Four Days Straight” available for free download. Click HERE to download the track. Scattered Trees has also created four videos for “Four Days Straight” with the help of film students at four different schools in NYC, and is currently running a contest on Consequence of Sound to select the band’s next official video. Click HERE to view the videos and vote on the contest. And to celebrate the Sympathy’s release, Scattered Trees has announced a very special album release show on 4/30 at Schubas in Chicago. See the band’s full tour dates below.

Already, the album has been hailed by Nylon, RCRD LBL, Consequence of Sound and others as an album that’s not to be missed. And it’s easy to see why. The album is a focused, deeply personal collection of songs that finds Scattered Trees experimenting with lush multi-part harmonies, constructing dynamic builds, and exploring the intricacies of love and loss. Driving rock epics like “Four Days Straight” rub shoulders with melancholic elegies like “Where You Came From.” The album’s title track starts with a stripped-down plaintive mandolin, ultimately fading into a slow-burning orchestral groove. Melting into “Five Minutes,” Scattered Trees continues the build until the track bursts forth. The band rounds out the record with the mournful acoustic closer “On Your Side,” a fitting tribute for a deeply heartfelt and therapeutic album.
