There are currently no plans for The String Cheese Incident beyond summer of 2007.

Over the past decade, The String Cheese Incident has emerged as one of America's most significant independent bands. Born in 1993 in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, SCI has since released 6 albums, 3 DVDs and countless live recordings from their relentless tour schedule. Their 14 year history is packed full of surreal experiences, epic moments, groundbreaking involvement and huge accomplishments. They have been recognized for their commitment to musical creativity and integrity, for their community spirit, philanthropic endeavors, and for their innovative approach to the business of music.

When The String Cheese Incident's growth first started gaining momentum over a decade ago, when the internet was just beginning to take hold and the major-label business model was failing, the band decided to make music on their own terms.

Since then, The String Cheese Incident has gone on to carve out a completely different approach to the business of music; they are truly pioneers of a new way of "making a band."  With the World Wide Web as their tool, SCI was among the first artists to disseminate information via the internet, such as tour dates, release information, and other news, to their growing fan base.  Rather than doing business on such terms as "the bottom line," The String Cheese Incident put their music and their fans first, opening companies of their own, including a ticketing company, a merchandise company and a fan travel agency, to best serve their community. The band's record label, SCI Fidelity Records, has always operated under the same ideals. Even early on, SCI Fidelity embraced downloadable music and file sharing, delivering SCI's "On the Road" series, where every show the band plays is made available for download on the internet.  Whether they realized it at the time or not, The String Cheese Incident was inventing grassroots band development.  Today, literally hundreds of bands are using some version of this same approach to building a band.

The String Cheese Incident's commitment goes well beyond their immediate community, and even beyond the music community as a whole. Early on, the band took a serious interest in giving back to the communities that they visited, and they were among the first performers to encourage "Green" shows and tours.  SCI's support has helped give rise to such not-for-profit organizations as Conscious Alliance, Rock the Earth, and Head Count. In 2002, when the band's right to sell tickets to their own shows became threatened by ticketing giant Ticketmaster, the band stood strong for the independent music community and filed a lawsuit against the company.  All the while, The String Cheese Incident has stayed committed to music as a creative endeavor, not just in their recordings but also in their live performances.  The list of SCI's special guests and collaborators is long and diverse. Their annual events such as Horning's Hideout, and holiday shows such as New Year's and Halloween, have helped redefine the concert experience and has garnered the band a reputation as live music vibe innovators.

RRE Announces Dates w/ Honkytonk Homeslice

Railroad Earth @ The Gathering of the Vibes- for the Grateful Web

New Jersey-based national touring act Railroad Earth has announced it will play a four-night run of shows in December with Honkytonk Homeslice (Bill Nershi, String Cheese Incident and Jilian Nershi).  The shows signal a growing kinship with the SCI family; Railroad Earth has teamed up with SCI's record label, SCI Fidelity, for the release of the sextet's first live album, due out in January 2006.

The four-night musical match up kicks off on Dec. 8 at Revolution Hall in Troy, NY and continues the next evening in Boston with a performance at the Paradise Rock Club.  A stop at New York City's Bowery Ballroom on Dec. 10 and a final show at the recently re-named 8x10 Club in Baltimore will close out the mini-tour. Both sides of this venture are excited about coming together to make music.  For Railroad Earth's part, the opportunity to share the stage with the Nershi's ever evolving side-project was an appealing proposition. "The chance to play with [Nershi] is one we could not pass up and we are looking forward to exploring our newfound association onstage for this four-night tour," said Railroad Earth's management.

For their part, it is no secret that some members of the String Cheese Incident have been smitten with Railroad Earth's unique blend of bluegrass, folk, roots music and rock.  In an interview with the Denver Post in late June, SCI bassist Keith Moseley stated that Railroad Earth's "finely crafted songwriting and clever arrangements" make them one of his favorite bands. For more information on these and other shows, and to order tickets, visit www.railroadearth.com.

Founded in 2001, Railroad Earth performs a progressive mix of bluegrass, folk, roots music and rock.  Fronted by lead singer and songwriter Todd Sheaffer, (From Good Homes), Railroad Earth features the musical talents of Tim Carbone, Andy Goessling, Johnny Grubb, Carey Harmon and John Skehan.  The band most recent studio album, "The Good Life," was released on Sugar Hill records in June 2004.

Honkytonk Homeslice (HTHS) features Bill Nershi (String Cheese Incident) and Jilian Nershi, as well as a regularly changing line-up of honorary members.  Built on intimate performances rich in harmonies and hot guitar playing, HTHS was founded in 2004 as an outlet for Bill to pursue different musical directions and as a platform for Jilian's vocal talents.

News you can use :

- Furtado did a 3 week tour opening for Gregg Allman & Friends this spring.

- Last year's Funzalo release, THESE CHAINS, is a finalist in the Indie Acoustic Project's "Best CDs of 2004" Awards (see www.indieacoustic.com for more info).

- #5 most added at Americana radio

"There are times on Tony Furtado's new live solo cd, BARE BONES , that you'd swear there are two guitarists."
- Traverse City Record Eagle

"'The live solo show is basically what you hear on the album.  I'll do solo stuff based around old folk tunes, and I intersperse banjo in there.  It becomes this American roots vibe.'  That vibe has made the just-released BARE BONES CD a hit with audiences and has kept Furtado on the road, where he revels in his craft."
- The Grand Rapids Press

"Blending acoustic slide guitar with woodsy tales of the everyday, Furtado's mix of technical virtuosity and warm storytelling soul was a perfect warm-up for Allman and his friends."
