Lola Danza debuts her project "Janya" @ Kennedy Center

Lola Danza debuts her project "Janya" at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. this Friday May 13th 2011 at 6pm.

In Sanskrit Janya means to be born and in Korean Janya means around dawn.  Janya was created by four unique musicians-- all derived from Korean descent and all women. The music is a fusion of East and West—the East: Seungmin Cha- Daegeum, Eun Sun Jung- Gayageum and Woonjung Sim- Janggo, the West with Half Korean American Singer Lola Jung Danza. Something shamanic and magical exists between the four musician women and so-- Janya was born… around dawn.

They will also premier their work from their new album entitled “Janya” recorded at Bill Laswell's studio. They will have the music available exclusively at the Kennedy Center on Friday, May 13th and it will be released worldwide this summer on Evolver Records and also on a Korean label soon TBA.

About What if?:

Founded in 2000, the What If? Foundation funds food and education programs for children in Haiti.

From the beginning, the What If? Foundation has been in partnership with the St. Clare’s community of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Our success is made possible through the collaborative efforts of members of St. Clare’s, who prepare and serve thousands of food program meals every week, enroll students into school, and run an annual summer camp. This commitment and expertise, combined with the financial resources provided by the What If? Foundation is what makes these desperately needed programs possible.

With this simple formula of local dedication and international support, we’re making a tangible difference in the lives of some of the world’s hungriest children. We welcome you to join us.

About Partners in Health:

Jammin' With Rex: Dec. 13th Party with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

Join us on Sunday, December 13th: Meet Grace Potter and The Nocturnals at a pre-concert party and enjoy their music at The Fillmore in San Francisco.  Our party will feature a special beer tasting compliments of San Francisco's Magnolia Brewery.

Now through December: Grateful Graphics will contribute to Rex $2 of every website purchase.

Purchase the special Rex Foundation 25th Anniversary Poster designed by Stanley Mouse as a gift for yourself or others.

As to direct contributions, consider Jammin' with Rex: Make a Gift ~ Get a Gift, where with your contribution of $25 you can choose either some delicious Rex Jam - a jar of organic strawberry spread made by Sweet Creek Foods or the 3-disc Jerry Jams-Jerry Cares CD.

Just as with the Rex Community Caravan that we started a few years ago to encourage contributions of $5 or more, we hope Jammin' with Rex is another way you can enjoy helping fund more and more programs like those receiving our recent grants.

It is because of the generous support you have provided these last eight years of renewal that the Rex Foundation has been able to distribute just over $1.1 million in seed grants to over 200 programs, now totaling $8.5 million in grants to over 1,000 programs across the U.S. and internationally since our inception in 1983.  Your support also enables us to produce events and create The World As It Could Be Human Rights Education Project .  This demonstrates the power of grassroots giving in every dimension - your contribution dollars, whether $5, $50, $500 or more, add up quickly to connect us as a philanthropic community, making a positive difference in many ways.

Shannon Whitworth @ Swallow Hill, Denver ~ Fri., Feb 13th

Shannon Whitworth- for the Grateful Web

Shannon Whitworth's music is something one would imagine to hear on a front porch in the hills of Appalachia. Combining a love for old-time banjo with a voice sounding like a younger Gillian Welch, Shannon Whitworth defines mountain music. She has spent the last ten years focusing on bluegrass and country music. Her talent as a singer and songwriter enabled her to spend the last four years touring the United States with acclaimed bluegrass band, The Biscuit Burners, which she co-founded. On clawhammer banjo and guitar, Shannon's compositions contributed depth to the band's material and have helped her gain respect as a truly talented singer and songwriter.

No Expectations features ten of Shannon's most recent compositions accompanied by an all-star cast of musicians. Great singing, great writing, and great picking makes Shannon Whitworth's first solo project unforgettable.
