Conscious Alliance and Elephant Revival Host Benefit for Pine Ridge Reservation

The Boulder based nonprofit organization Conscious Alliance and the musical group Elephant Revival are teaming up to present the Buffalo Heart Concert on April 30 at The Boulder Theater. Elephant Revival, the neo-acoustic transcendental folk quintet from Nederland, will be joined by John Oates, The Plenty Wolf Singers, The Dovekins, as well as very special guest Nat Keefe of Hot Buttered Rum.

Conscious Alliance is a national nonprofit that was founded in 2002 and is focused on delivering emergency food relief to the most impoverished communities in the United States. Most of their collected donations are distributed to Native American Reservations, where six of the seven poorest communities in the U.S. are located.

Elephant Revival carries a fresh sense of creativity and inspiration that is felt by people of every generation. Musically and collaboratively the quintet is inspired to spread a message of sustainability while nurturing an awareness of positive change through the pure light intention of their music.

This event will mark the second time Elephant Revival and Conscious Alliance have teamed up for a night of music that will benefit the nonprofit’s efforts on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, one of the most economically isolated regions of the country. Last year’s benefit was extremely successful and raised money to heat homes throughout the winter for impoverished community members of the reservation.

For the 2011 benefit, Elephant Revival and Conscious Alliance will once again allocate the funds raised at the Buffalo Heart Concert to the Pine Ridge Reservation. The funds will be directed toward the ongoing mission of keeping the Conscious Alliance emergency food storage facility stocked on Pine Ridge, as well as funding Lakota Youth Programs in the summer that will focus on the preservation of Lakota tradition.

Voice Of The Wetlands All Stars @ Boulder Theater | 2/3/11

Voice of the Wetlands was established in 2004 as a volunteer-based non-profit, focused on driving awareness and developing educational outlets/programs about the loss of the wetlands in southern Louisiana. VOW was started by musician Tab Benoit who was born and raised in Houma, LA - one of the communities born of the wetlands. Tab along with Rueben Williams and a coalition of local artists and business leaders recognized the urgency to save their homes and the culture of southern Louisiana.

Since its inception, VOW has hosted a number of efforts including an annual free, 3-day festival since 2004, and a bold initiative of taking over 50 New Orleans musicians to perform at the 2008 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. In addition, VOW has been represented to the federal government by Tab during sessions on Capitol Hill in 2008. The sessions focused on the urgency of restoring and the need to preserve the Louisiana wetlands.

Voice of the Wetlands takes an active role in driving awareness to restore the wetlands from a local to a national level. The organization prides itself in maintaining a mission that addresses all aspects, causes and solutions.

Voice of the Wetlands is the only wetlands restoration and preservation organization comprised of members who were born and raised and continue to live in the communities created from Louisiana's wetlands.

HAAM Benefit Day 2010 The Best Ever

The 5th Annual HAAM Benefit Day, held on Tuesday, September 21, brought in the largest amount of funds ever raised for Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, its member-musicians and the healthcare service programs they participate in: $195,000, the organization reported today.

It was a record-breaking day all around, with the largest number of Austin area businesses making a donation or pledging a portion of the day’s proceeds — more than 200 — and the most musical performances (more than 140) heard on any HAAM Benefit Day.

“We at HAAM are incredibly pleased with the response to the fifth HAAM Benefit Day,” said Keith Carmichael, HAAM Benefit Day 2010 Committee chairman. “The number of businesses and the number of entertainers participating — not to mention the amount of funds raised, the largest ever — shows us how much this city and the people in it appreciate live music and what this organization is doing to make sure it flourishes.”

In addition to acknowledging Whole Foods Market for its generosity in serving for five consecutive years as HAAM Benefit Day presenting sponsor, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians is grateful for the tens of thousands of dollars donated not only by Whole Foods Market but also by C3 Presents and South by Southwest® over the years of HAAM Benefit Day.
It also recognizes Texas Heritage Songwriters Association for its donation that matched the contribution of the Austin community on September 21 as residents ate out, shopped and donated on behalf of their favorite music-makers.
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians also announced today the date for the 6th Annual HAAM Benefit Day: Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, when business, the music community and residents will again unite to keep music alive and well in Austin.
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians provides access to affordable healthcare services to Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians with a focus on prevention and wellness. Since HAAM’s 2005 start, more than 2,200 of the city’s battalion of hard-working musicians have joined and gained access to regular, cost-effective healthcare services. Medical, dental, mental, hearing and vision health services are provided by Seton Family of Hospitals, St. David’s Foundation, The SIMS Foundation, Estes Audiology and Prevent Blindness Texas. HAAM’s annual Corporate Battle of the Bands and HAAM Benefit Day have become signature events behind a great cause: maintaining the health of the musicians who help make Austin such an enviable place to live and work. Phish 1995 Poster Signed by Entire band!- for the Grateful Web

Mimi Fishman Auction  - The Grateful Web is honored to power the Mimi Fishman auction for more than 5 years!

This time around former Phish drummer Jon Fishman has reached deep into his past to donate many artifacts sure to be of interest to Phish fans.  The charity auction features various pieces of Fishman's drum kits used on tours as well as studio recordings – some dating back to the mid to late 80's.  This impressive list of items includes Jon's first kick drum which was used during the recording of "Junta" as well as early tour dates, his complete road practice kit, as well as many other gems from his equipment while with Phish.  Fishman signed all the items he donated.

This auction is one of special importance to Fishman.  "Since Phish broke up I've finally gotten around to going through all the piles of drum equipment I've accumulated over the years and setting aside the items I no longer need or will ever use again.  There have been a lot of opinions about what I should do with them one way or another, but it's always been clear to me the best thing I could do would be to auction it off through my mother's foundation to help raise money for those she would have been happy to support", says Fishman.

In addition, the auction features a unique item donated by Phish bassist Mike Gordon and his mother Marjorie Minkin (with funds donated to the Triangle Arts Foundation), items signed by Phish, laminates from Phish festivals/tours, as well as other rarities.
