New Year's Eve Show Marcus Goldhaber W/The Jon Davis Trio

Catch Marcus with the Jon Davis Trio on NYE- for the Grateful Web

When Marcus was growing up, every night after dinner his mother would call him over to the piano to teach him a new song. She had no great plan to train him professionally, she only wanted him to know this music and have it a part of his life. She would always say, "This is a great one for you to know."

At age 14, he quickly realized that this was not a common practice in the homes of his friends. So needless to say, he listened to a wide range of music that included Robert Smith, Jim Morrison, Sarah Vaughn, Elton John, Claude Debussy, Eddie Vedder, and Chet Baker, but at night he'd always go right back to the piano with his mom after dinner; quite the balance for a suburban kid in Buffalo, NY.

This was not a chore, but rather a treat – a chance to get another piece of a genre in which he always wished he'd been born. Instead, born in 1978, Marcus fell in love with this music through the influence of his grandparents, Ernest and Martha Blaustein and, of course, through these after dinner sessions with his mom. When his grandparents were alive, these two were grace, class and chivalry incarnate and to Marcus, this was all written and brought to life in the music of their time.

Today, he is right at home in this genre interpreting the songs of Dorothy Fields, Sammy Cahn, Harold Arlen, Jimmy Van Heusen, Sammy Fain, and so many others. Marcus is a perfect blend of yesterday and today. With a modern approach that stays true to the style of this music, he hopes to help bring these great tunes back so that young people can grow up knowing this music as he did and then pass it on to their children, maybe after dinner at the piano.

Perennial musical powerhouse U-Melt, together with Phanphest Entertainment, have officially announced their New Year's Eve 2008 Celebration, taking place this year at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Joining a long list of epic U-Melt New Year's Eve performances, this year's party will feature two long sets from the NYC based quartet and over seven hours of live music. With special guests BuzzUniverse, Lemon Juice and Keith Kenny, the music will be cranking starting at 8:00PM. Following U-Melt's extended double set will be Long Island favorites, The Point, closing the night out with a late night set.

Tickets for the all ages New Year's Eve show are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show, if tickets remain. As an added bonus for the first 200 fans that pre-order tickets, U-Melt is offering a special commemorative poster for the show. Available through InTicketing.com, the environmentally friendly online ticketing company plants a tree for every ticket purchased through them. Phanphest Entertainment has also arranged for a special $99 hotel room rate for the night at the Berkely Carteret. Conveniently located in walking distance from The Stone Pony, the four people rooms are currently available under the "Stone Pony/Phanphest NYE Rate."

In addition to the New Year's Eve celebration, U-Melt has also announced their second annual Halloween Extravaganza. Capitalizing off of last year's widely successful, yet slightly risque "Gangsters and Gag Balls" theme when the band played a Pulp Fiction themed show peppered with songs from the soundtrack and video clips from the movie, U-Melt encourages fans this year to dress as their favorite 1970's rock star (or groupie). Taking place at the brand new Wescott Theater in Syracuse, New York, the high octane show promises to be full of surprises living up to the U-Melt moniker. Tickets for the 18 and over show are $10 in advance and $14 the day of the show. Doors open at 8:00PM with Jeff Bujak kicking off the party at 9:00PM.

Railroad Earth Announces New Year's Eve 2005 Run

Railroad Earth 2005- for the Grateful Web

New Jersey-based national touring act Railroad Earth has announced it will play a three-night run of shows in late December leading up to New Year's Eve.  The shows in Northern Virginia and Pennsylvania will follow a series of concerts with Honkytonk Homeslice (Billy Nershi, String Cheese Incident) and come weeks before the release of the band's first live album, due out on SCI Fidelity Records in January 2006.

Railroad Earth's New Year's Eve run includes a stop at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA on Dec. 29 and a two-night stand at the Theatre of the Living Arts (TLA) in Philadelphia on Dec. 30-31. This holiday mini-tour is a first for the sextet.  In the past, the band has rung in the New Year with a performance near its headquarters in New Jersey, and the band's management is pleased with the schedule of performances. "The band thoroughly enjoys performing at both the State Theatre and the TLA," said management.  "We couldn't be happier about returning to these venues for another successful run of shows."
