It’s not rare to walk into Macky Auditorium and feel overwhelmed by its elegance, but walking in to School of Rock playing ‘Black Magic Woman’ in all its sultry splendor on April 6th for the Nomad Theater’s benefit show added a whole new element of allure. These kids could rock it, and seeing such young folk on the stage of an old-time auditorium was a pleasing contrast to the senses.

Esteemed Northwest producer Phutureprimitive is set to release the first half of his highly anticipated 2 part studio album “Searching For Beauty in the Darkest Places Pt 1”, through his label, Native Harmonix, on April 9th (with part 2 coming in the Fall). This long awaited release is his first full-length album following the critically acclaimed Kinetik in 2011.

I must admit I was worried that the departure of guitarist John Neff was going to leave a noticeable void in the sound of the Drive-By Truckers last Friday night at the Boulder Theater (Neff split in December of last year). His pedal steel was always on time amidst the guitar-heavy DBT shows, a near perfect "icing on the cake," if you will. All said and done, was his absence noticeable? Sure.

Modern Funk's native sons are releasing a new album at the end of April and it's exactly what you would expect, which is a good thing.Dumpstaphunk's "Dirty Word" is a solid album from a seasoned group of musicians.

The great American institution—the record store—has had a rough go over the last decade. Yet despite those struggles, there are still a ton of amazing record shops out all around the world. This Saturday, 4/20, we celebrate them...

For those of you headed to New Orleans Jazzfest this year, on Saturday, May 4 at The Blue Nile, we'll gather six of our most favorite musicians for a band called The Royal Potato Family All-Stars.

This past Tuesday was the release of the brand new studio album by Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom entitled No Morphine, No Lilies. Allison has played drums with everyone from Natalie Merchant to Ani DiFranco to Dr. Lonnie Smith.
