The Capitol Theatre

The Disco Biscuits descended into the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY for night two of their rescheduled three night run from March 2020 last Friday, and unfurled a set list of fan favorites, covers and rarities to celebrate guitarist Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig's birthday. Their characteristic blend of jamtronica music was fueled by Gutwillig's guitar driven jamming this evening, and included a first time played Dead cover.

In celebration of his 82nd birthday, Phil Lesh and The Capitol Theatre are gifting fans with the news that Lesh and his “Friends” are playing a 9-night extended October residency to celebrate Phil-o-Ween. The shows take place October 14 - 16, October 21 - 23, and October 28, 29, and 31. These residency shows will mark Phil's 100 show anniversary with The Cap, since 2012.

Hot Tuna at the Capitol Theatre, December 4th, 2021, this is the second rescheduled date for a performance that was originally set to be played in July 2020. Now it's a year and a half later and that's a lot of time for anticipation. Almost like my first concert, I still get the pre-show jitters. We've seen this band dozens of times, add in the fifty plus free Quarantine Concerts live from the Fur Peace Ranch and there has been a lot of great music to enjoy.

The Capitol Theatre’s halcyon days played host to rock ‘n’ roll royalty — Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, Jefferson Airplane, The Chambers Brothers, Mountain, the Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, Traffic, Eric Clapton, and more. Friday, December 17, Dayglo Presents and RWE Partners unite and give proper respect to these melodic masters in the iconic venue where they impacted the world forever.

Today, Vermont-based jam quartet Twiddle announced its annual “Frendsgiving” celebration. This year’s shows will occur on Friday, November 26th, and Saturday, November 27th at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. Night one will feature a supporting set from guitar virtuoso Keller Williams, and night two will see an opening set from Connecticut rock outfit Eggy.

Beatnik poets gave way to Merry Pranksters gave way to a Long Strange Trip that we are still on right now today. The wheel is turning, it can’t slow down… In homage to Yonkers born almost 102 years old Beatnik publisher, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, I give you my stream of consciousness notes to the best show I have seen all year long. Billy Strings Deja Vu Experiment at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on 2/20/21 was one of a series of six shows that was truly unlike any show I’ve ever experienced.  Things are changing so here is a review like I’ve never written:

As the week winds to a close, we are reflecting back with some thoughts about the undoubtedly historic run of musical performances that just occurred this past week at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY: Billy Strings’ “The Deja Vu Experiments,” which saw the bluegrass guitarist and his quartet play six consecutive shows at the rock palace, live-streamed to what was reported as over 30,000 viewers tuning in.

I last reviewed a streamed Billy Strings show in July. A lot has changed since then. Online concerts have grown more sophisticated, with platforms like Twitch taking the tech out of the artist’s hands. Billy’s hair? That too has changed from the oft braided locks of an up and comer to the mullet of someone who has arrived.

Six nights of musical improvisation from Billy Strings start tomorrow, streaming live from the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
