EOTO

EOTO Takes The Country By Storm With Innovative Live Electronic Music

From dance halls to intimate theaters worldwide comes EOTO - the nation’s top innovator in glitchy electronic, bass thumping, dub-step themed music. With performances booked well into 2010 including dates in Tucson, Albuquerque, San Diego and all along the western seaboard, EOTO is taking the country by storm with their innovative brand of live electronic music.

What EOTO achieves on stage is nothing short of astounding. Performed with all of the bells and whistles of a traditional electronic artist plus the addition of live drums, vocals, bass and guitar, the duo creates each and every bass ridden noise right before your eyes -without the addition of a single pre-recorded track. Known for their 100% live improvised performance, EOTO is breaking ground into a new sub culture of music while standing against some of the nations best live DJ’s in the country.

With leagues of sold-out theater performances in 2009, the project started out as an avenue for the duo to blow off steam and generally just have a good time playing around with technology with music. Now, a full time project for the pair with a seemingly endless tour featuring over 600 shows in 4 years and sold out performances in every market in the country. With no signs of stopping, EOTO fine-tunes their approach and skill with each and every show they play, leaving the next performance more unique then the last.

The project will be careening the countryside in 2010 with back-to-back performances scheduled well into late spring and festival dates booked swiftly behind it. The project will be playing along the mountain west and up the west coast before heading back to middle America, through the South, and over to the East Coast in support of their third release, Fire The Lazers, which is now available on iTunes or at a show near you.

EOTO Fire Their Lazers in Denver

Describe them anyway you want; whether it be glitch, trance, trip-hop, ambient, dub-step, or electronica.  The fact remains that the explosive improvisational duo known as EOTO are just plain badass.  Multi-instrumentalists and sometimes String Cheese Incident members Jason Hann and Michael Travis continue to explore the universe and conquer galaxies with their house-pounding beats and cosmic rhythms.  What was born out of the extended SCI hiatus as an experimental project has grown to a full-on club headliner.  With the release of

EOTO: Fall Tour & New Album

The way music is produced and performed is growing at an astounding rate. >From the roots of acoustic music to amped up rock n’ roll and into the electronic revolution, the options available to the modern musician are more like a scientific lab, then the campfire jam from where it all started. From the controls of a tiny laptop, a performer now has the power to mix, change and loop sounds in a concert setting with great ease. This modern twist of technology is bringing a new level of music to the electronic dance party.

JasonWhile the genre of live electronica is relatively new on the music circuit, nobody is breaking the boundaries of live producing and improvisation like EOTO. Fusing elements of live instrumentation, house music, dubstep and electro into their dance ready sound, the band will be taking the country by storm beginning in late September for their perennial fall tour, performing 33 consecutive nights in a row.

Consisting of Michael Travis and Jason Hann the duo mixes the organic sounds of live drums, keyboards, vocals, bass, percussion, and guitar through a variety of programs and gadgets to create a style of music that is more likely found in a dance club, then a live music theater. What sets EOTO apart from other artists in this emerging genre is how the music is created. While some artists may spend hours pre-mixing samples and elements of music for their live show, EOTO uses nothing pre-recorded, giving them the ability to approach each song with on-the-spot spontaneity and 100% live improvisation.

Because of the ever-changing sound and style of music, it’s hard to describe a band like EOTO. In a recent discussion on the bands highly active Facebook page, the thousands of subscribed fans were asked to describe the band in their own words – descriptions ranged from mythical to visual, each in awe of the duo’s ability to create high octane dance music in a live setting. A trait that has fans old and new catching multiple shows on a tour and packing venues wherever they play. Or maybe EOTO is selling out venues around the coast for the spirit of dance music they bring in general. As one fan put it “It’s a raging dance party that nobody should miss. An indescribable feeling that lingers for hours“.

It should come as no surprise that the members of EOTO have performed with a range of musicians second to none. Their combined resume includes the likes of Isaac Hayes, Loreena McKinnett, Herbie Hancock, Drummers of STOMP, DJ Tequila, Les Nubians, Stanley Jordan, Les ClayPool, Joshua Redman, Arturo Sandoval, Bela Fleck, Trilok Gurtu, Charlie Hunter, Mike Marshall and Dave Grisman just to name a few. In less then 3 years, the duo has performed over 500 shows including the top festivals in North America. The machine that drives EOTO is more then just performing live music, the band also does all of their own self-management and booking for every single show they play.

Beginning in late September and performing every single night in October, EOTO will hit the road with their long-awaited studio EP called Fire the Lazers!!. This eleven-track journey into dubstep, electro and house music showcases their talents and skill in a growing dimension of music. In true EOTO spirit the album was produced with nothing planned or rehearsed, capturing only the best of what makes up their original sound. The album will be available on the road and by digital download in October of 2009.

EOTO, Vibesquad, & Big Gigantic at Mishawaka Amphitheatre: A Night of Firsts

Friday August 14th was a night of firsts. I'd never been to Mishawaka, I'd never seen these bands all at the same show, and I'd never really talked to any of them.

Rothbury Pre-Party: EOTO and Ultraviolet Hippopotamus

Although I am no stranger to Grand Rapids, I had never attended a show at the Intersection until the Rothbury Pre-Party.  There is no more appropriately named venue to host such a dynamic collaboration of talent.  EOTO, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus and Herm Productions is quite the trio to kick off the Rothbury Music Festival.

EOTO Set to Make Annual Northeast Pilgrimage

hannThe left coast breakbeat, glitch-hop and house duo known as EOTO, is set to embark on their annual east coast trek to kick off a run of spring 2009 performances. Following an undeniably successful winter tour, including a weeklong stint in the Sunshine State, EOTO will bring their innovative blend of live instrumentation and digital mixing north to eager audiences awaiting the next chapter in the group’s musical voyage.

Featuring Jason Hann and Michael Travis, formerly of the progressive jam outfit String Cheese Incident, EOTO is a shot of adrenaline to the heart of the music industry. Differing in sonic stature from their mixing forefathers, the typical EOTO live experience is 100% atypical, meaning nothing is pre-recorded, nothing is pre-looped and no set is pre-planned. Every night is a distinctive journey into the musical minds of Hann and Travis, each feeding off of the other’s creativity and the audience’s vibes. EOTO combines cutting-edge technology with live instrumental performance to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment.

Beginning immediately after the conclusion of their Florida tour, EOTO will head to Nashville, Tennessee for a show at Windows Off the Cumberland on March 16th. Additional stops include performances in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and Ohio before the group heads back to the Midwest. For a complete list of dates and details, be sure to check EOTO’s MySpace page for the latest info as the group continues to heat up 2009

Rothbury: Thursday with the Biscuits, EOTO, Lotus & Others

The funky, jammy, L.A. based Underground Orchestra proved to be a good start to the music of the weekend before the chaos started. Anthony Rogers-Wright proved to be an entertaining bassist and just one component of this group. Sam Feldman plays the mandolin, which I love, so this group had an instant in.

Sonic Bloom: Winterpark 2008

Relentlessly winding upwards along Berthoud Pass, my brain lights up like a pinball machine in action and BAM my thoughts of needing to extol some elder wisdom on my co-hort becomes apparent. The event we are quickly approaching entry into, is unlike most of the "festivals" she has attended in the past.

The Grateful Web Interview with Jason Hann

One wonders how the members of an elite band can go from playing sold out amphitheaters to nearly empty bars.  Almost one year into the hiatus the artists who comprise the well-known Colorado jam-band The String Cheese Incident have all busied themselves with numerous side projects and guest appearances across the music scene.
