During the early 1990s while growing up in middle America I was making the transformation from teenager to adult. My personal changes were not unlike what the country in general was going through. The awkward years of George Bush gave way to the prosperous reign of President Clinton. During this time there was another interesting transition going on in popular music and culture. The dominant days of hair metal bands were fading (like my stone-washed jeans), and the glam gave way to grunge which ushered in a new era of rock n' roll.
Comparisons - The world is littered with them. We compare this to that for reasons only the people doing the comparing can comprehend. This year seems to have introduced more new music festivals than ever. In a sea of established fests and emerging talent, it’s hard to stand out from the crowd. The Capitol Theatre has set aside its very best seats for a charitable program to send area schoolteachers to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland for a week of intensive curriculum training. Concertgoers can bid on the coveted Presidential Box—four seats directly overlooking the stage—for most events at the historic Theatre, including recent performances by B.B. King, The Black Crowes, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Drive-By Truckers, Phish's Trey Anastasio, and Furthur's 9-show sold-out run kicking off this week.
Today, Furthur announced plans for their summer and fall tours. Furthur will kick things off with their 1st performance at the BottleRock Napa Valley Festival on May 8th. Furthur has a 3 hour slot scheduled for that night, which is nearly 90 minutes longer than any other act.

Do you believe in augurs? As a bookworm and English teacher, I always look for them in literature and instruct my students to do the same. Omens of good things to come and harbingers of impending doom are common tropes in fiction. But the portents woven into those narratives are intentional and premeditated – mechanisms to clue the reader in to future events. Real life is another matter entirely.
