Grateful Mahalo was a birthday party celebrated on the island of Kaua`i and all over the world for our favorite birthday boy, Bill Kreutzmann, drummer of the Grateful Dead, born May 7, 1946 in Palo Alto, California. Bill was told he was a teenager that he had no rhythm, but began playing drums in his early teens anyway.

Pink Talking Fish played at one of Ithaca’s most beautiful venues, the State Theatre of Ithaca, for the town's Grateful Dead Day in celebration of the famous 5/8/77 Cornell Show…it was the 44th anniversary! In true PTF fashion, they added in Dead songs to their repertoire of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads & Phish. The band dove deep & really homed in on the Dead catalog and the spirit of the original show, deemed by some as their greatest performance ever. The show is set to rebroadcast Thursday, May 27th on Fans.Live. Stay tuned for more details!

"When it came to 1973 Dead, I was always drawn to the big second-set jams, 'Dark Star' or 'The Other One,' and all of the places those songs could go that year. One week during my initial stint with the Dead, Dick was spending a lot of time listening to 9/8/73, and he could not stop raving about it. He was very intent on pointing out that despite the absence of the 'Big Two' from 1973, every song, every solo, every moment was out-of-this-world excellent. He played me the first set, giving a play-by-play of each song and what made it special.

The Grateful Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra formed in Chicago, Illinois and offered its first public show on November 11, 1997, has performed 2997 shows since that time. The band today announces the return to its Windy City birthplace roots by hosting a pair of shows in downtown Chicago at Soldier Field.

Midnight North kicked off its 2021 live-stage endeavors on April 18, with a masked and physically distanced performance at their original home base, Terrapin Crossroads. The concert was the band’s first show back since the Covid-19 proliferation and leaned heavily on the band’s newly released album, “There’s Always a Story.”

This is the look Jerry had on his face when I, aged 12, walked into his living room to find him sitting in front of the tv, strumming an unplugged electric guitar, and hoarsely singing a Grateful Dead tune. (I just recalled he would plug into a tiny portable amplifier with headphones so HE at least could hear the guitar.)  Well aware as I was that millions of Deadheads would’ve killed to be in my shoes, the scene was somehow so preposterous I couldn’t contain my laughter. Jerry didn’t mind though. I can still hear him.

Grateful Web recently had the honor of visiting with Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay. While most folks are familiar with Donna Jean as the radiant co-vocalist of 1970s Grateful Dead, augmenting some of the seminal group’s most celebrated tunes such as “The Music Never Stopped,” “Cassidy,” “Mississippi Half-Step,” and “Playing in the Band,” she holds deeper roots in Americana as a 1960s session musician of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.
