JJ Grey

JJ Grey, described by the New York Times as: "Impassioned singing, riff-based Southern rock, cold-blooded swamp funk and sly Memphis soul,” has just been added to the line-up at the Second Annual Sunshine Music and Blues Festival.  The Tedeschi Trucks Band, winner of multiple Blues Music Awards and a 2012 Grammy Award for “Best Blues Album,” will once again headline this Florida only Festival.  Featuring two stages of live bands, a wide array of refreshing craft beers and delectable menus from a wide variety of food vendors, the Festival will kick off Saturday, Jan

Boasting the kind of ferocious funk collaborations you’d expect to find in New Orleans during Jazzfest, as opposed to the remote Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Equifunk sets itself apart this summer -- an unsuspecting gem among 2013 festivals.

Maybe I’ve grown jaded and all, but lately the gimmicks and ploys and artificial soul spewing from some of these up-and-comers in the ‘industry’ (loose interpretation) have been dancing on nothing short of exhausting. Too much self-awareness, far too little genuine appreciation for the necessary steps on the ladder to iconic reverence. Folks wanna be first-off famous—you cannot fall in love with the rock stars, to paraphrase my favorite flick on the subject (you’ve seen it).

It's amazing what a good night's sleep can do for a body! Today's report about Friday at the fantastic 10KLF will be devoid of whinning!

There's nobody who can speak about the land as a Southerner can. Though I'm not from the swamps or pine forests of Florida, but the isolated hollers of the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, I know exactly what JJ Grey means when he says, "After being away on the road for weeks at a time, there is no way to describe the joy it brings me when I catch my first homeward glimpse of them [the pines of his homeland]."

JJGrey and Mofro guys can do no wrong in my mind. I've gotta admit I enjoy their more enthusiastic shows, some days JJ just is in a mellow kind of mood, but today did not disappoint in the least.  It might have had something to do with the fact that they hadn't played in three weeks, which Grey informed the audience early on.
