Karen Jonas

Americana literary songsmith Karen Jonas’s sixth LP, The Restless (out Mar. 3), is a dark alt-country exploration of vulnerability. Each song is a confession that lands somewhere between nostalgia and doom. This mix of playful longing and earnest heartbreak crescendos into B-side opener “Rock the Boat,” which leaves Jonas prepared to walk straight into a river. The Restless is a visceral experience: you can feel the “lace and velvet” and taste “the bite of bourbon” on your lover’s tongue.

Today, Karen Jonas released a stunning rendition of “A Long December” (Counting Crows) with an accompanying music video.  The song and video premiered via American Songwriter, who writes: “reflecting on the past year of canceled tour dates and other plans coming to an end, Karen Jonas was stuck in a strange limbo of hope for a new beginning and what-ifs.”

Karen Jonas has announced the release date for her fifth album, The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams - out August 28. The record is a flashback-fueled fever dream of Americana songcraft and storytelling. Taking the vast desert expanses of the American Southwest as her backdrop, Jonas embroiders small-town snapshots into vivid explorations of our inner struggle between ambition and inaction.
