Hosting the musical memory of one of the Grateful Dead’s most beloved, historic shows, Dark Star Orchestra has pledged to recreate the July 8, 1978 performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater at the iconic venue 40 years to the day of its original performance. The band announces today that original Grateful Dead member Donna Jean Godchaux will be making a guest appearance on stage with the band at the upcoming July 8 performance.

Dark Star Orchestra Summer Tour leads down the Road to Red Rocks and beyond as the band celebrates the Golden State in San Diego, June 22, Ojai, June 23, and Carmel-By-The-Sea on June 24. A SEVA Foundation benefit in Petaluma is next, then Sacramento, followed by a pair in Berkeley, June 29-30. After that it’s off to Red Rocks on July 8 where the band is set to recreate the epic July 8, 1978 performance on its 40th birthday.

But every once in a while, I catch a concert that gives me a special feeling of knowing that I have seen music history and something sonically special. This was one of those moments. A few years ago here, it was Lana Del Rey who captivated her sold out show. This summer, it was her male musical soul mate Father John Misty.
