The 10th annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival has announced their second round of artists. Joining an already impressive lineup are scene favorites Rebelution, Dirty Heads, Pepper, Collie Buddz, The Green, and Alborosie. Making their debuts at the event are Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, UB40 feat. Ali & Astro, Kabaka Pyramid, The Elovaters, and Roots of a Rebellion. Also a special Matisyahu set performing the set list from his classic Live at Stubbs album rounds out the announcement.
Arizona Roots Music & Arts Festival will take place at the Riverwalk at Rawhide Western Town & Event Center on February 9 and 10, 2019. The festival will be brought to you by the same team that brings you the California Roots Music & Arts Festival in Monterey, CA. It was great to learn that The Trey Anastasio Trio, as listed on the schedule, was actually playing as a quartet, given that Ray Paczkowski had just returned to his keyboard the night before, after recovering from a health issue. That may have been Trey’s first real interaction with the crowd, there before the encore, where he played two solo songs with his acoustic, including a lovely “Waste,” before bringing his bandmates back for a third together. I did love how he phrased it, the news about Ray being better, genuinely thrilled to share “some good news in what seems like a world of bad news.”

Today, roots dub reggae artist Scott Woodruff, aka Stick Figure, dropped “Easy Runaway” - a lush new single inspired by mid-tempo electronica. “Easy Runaway” was written, recorded, and produced by Woodruff and is the second track to be released from a forthcoming album that is currently in the works. Yesterday, fans heard an exclusive first listen of the track when it premiered on SiriusXM The Joint.
Fan-favorite reggae act Stick Figure, led by the multi-talented frontman, songwriter, and producer Scott Woodruff as well as the beloved Cocoa the Tour Dog, will be teaming up with jamband powerhouse Twiddle for a 17-show run across the country, with additional support from LA-based reggae group Iya Terra. The organic link between jambands and reggae has been clearly drawn with the announcement of the Above the Storm Tour, a traveling representation of top up and comers in each respective scene.
