Taking the Mask off of Sin City at Vegoose 2006

As I sat and listened to Toubab Krewe, I couldn't help but think of the language of music.  The vocabulary and accents were ringing through my head, reminding me of the peaceful nature of mankind.  The notes melted together like a true melting pot, not the segregated version we've been told about for so long.  But one with true meaning.  A blending of cultures, ideas, and of people.  These were the opening rhythms of

Toubab Krewe Headed to Vegoose

- for the Grateful Web

Toubab Krewe's Fall Tour will include a performance at the Vegoose festival in Las Vegas, NV on October 28th, 2006 at 11:30 am. The show will be webcast live on the AT&T blue room and will feature very special guest Lamine Soumano, who is joining Toubab Krewe from Mali for his first tour of the U. S. The tour continues with a Halloween show in New York City at the Mercury Lounge as part of the CMJ Music Marathon and dates through out the East Coast.

Blending Malian, American and "Dirty South" influences into a sound all its own, Toubab Krewe continues to build off the momentum of an incredible tour in support of its self-titled debut album, which was produced by Grammy winning producer Steven Heller and released in June on Upstream Records. Highlights have included performances at the Bonnaroo, LEAF, Joshua Tree, Strawberry, Oregon Country Fair, Sierra Nevada, High Sierra, Floyd, Northeast Kingdom, Chicago World Music, moe.Down, Hatch and Magnolia music festivals.

Members of Toubab Krewe first met Soumano on a trip to Ivory Coast in 2001. A phenomenal multi-instrumentalist (guitar, kora, ngoni) in the West African griot tradition, he's become a close musical mentor and friend. He's recorded and performed extensively throughout West Africa and Europe, and Toubab Krewe is thrilled to welcome him on his first trip to the U.S.
