On Tour

TV Mike and the Scarecrowes tonight @ the Starry Plough

Tonight, perennial Bay Area folk group TV Mike and the Scarecrowes (yes, the extra e is necessary) perform at Berkeley’s The Starry Plough. It’s an intimate venue, with a big, open stage, giving performers enough room to move around, but also close enough to feel like there isn’t a barrier.

The Skatalites | Cervantes | Denver, CO | 3/20/2013 | Review

When the opportunity to see one of the catalysts of a certain genre of music presents itself, the general inclination is to get up off of the couch and learn something while boogying down.

EOTO | Boulder Theater | Boulder, CO | 3/16/13 | Review

On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, an unseasonably mild March night, EOTO put together an audiovisual party at the Boulder Theater that wasn’t scripted by shamrocks and, fortunately, green beer.

Twiddle | Hodi's Half Note | Review

After listening to my friends rave about Twiddle shows they’ve seen all over the country, whether it was a Phish after party or just a small show at a bar, I decided to drive down to Fort Collins from my home in Boulder, catch the $5 show and see what all the buzz was about.

Dirtfoot | George's Majestic Lounge | Fayetteville, AR | Review

There aren’t really any proper words in the English dictionary to describe a Dirtfoot show. The Brown Edition | Soulpocalypse | Review

The Brown Edition's new release from Spectra Jazz, Soulpocalypse, is nothing less than a cause for collective rejoicing. The superbly assembled album marks a throwback of sorts - they hail from another era when outstanding outfits like The Electric Flag, Blodwyn Pig, and Blood Sweat and Tears recorded on the cutting edge of popular music.

Steep Canyon Rangers w/Jeff Sipe | Boulder, CO | 3/9/13 | Review

North Carolina’s Steep Canyon Rangers have been picking quality bluegrass since their formation in the early 2000s, but it took a little while for their well-deserved recognition and success to begin snowballing.

Corbus Plays Zappa @ Dazzle Restaurant & Lounge | 3/7/13 | Review

The daunting task of interpreting the music of Frank Zappa has made the iconized jazz-fusion composer/musician less often a cover project than one might expect.

Good Gravy! & Frogs Gone Fishin' | SpokesBuzz Lounge | Review

The Mishawaka Amphitheater is certainly well known for its intimate location located 30 minutes up the Poudre Canyon. In such a scenic area, it’s no surprise the success of this venue. The Mish consistently puts on quality shows from local bands to national touring acts.
