Waking up from the tour opener of a massive Fall Tour in Fort Collins, CO last night, Britain’s The New Mastersounds and Brooklyn’s Turkuaz are pleased to debut the music video for the latter’s cover of prior’s song “On the Border”.  The tune serves as one side of a Split 7” EP that both groups collaborated on.  The record features both bands performing a cover song from the other artist's catalog, while also joining in on the collaboration.

With the tour now underway, the official digital release date has been set for Friday, October 14.  The limited edition vinyl format is now available for purchase via both band's fan club ticketing, linked below.  It will also be exclusively available at shows along the band's co-headline US Fall Tour.

The two tracks were recorded over two days at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA where all members of both groups shacked up before playing High Sierra Music Festival this past summer.  The session made for exciting results with each band putting a fresh take on each other's songs. The music video, directed by Dani Brandwein, pulls back the blinds on the session that also served as the first time both bands had ever been in the same room together.

Kicking off at the beginning of October with four nights throughout Colorado, the tour caravans all four corners of the country and blankets both East and West Coasts. Notable stops include Ogden Theatre in Denver, Terminal 5 in New York City, the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and The Fillmore in San Francisco. A full list of tour dates is below.

From their inception nearly two decades ago in Leeds, UK, The New Mastersounds have wholeheartedly embraced the “old school” label—their sound rooted deeply in those classic soul jazz, boogaloo and funk albums on labels such as Blue Note and Prestige by artists like Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff and Lou Donaldson.

Turkuaz is a 9-piece “Powerfunk” outfit from Brooklyn, NY, whose modern take on the classic funk sound has established them as leaders in the funk revolution that’s currently taking place in the genre. Fresh off the release of their funky new single “Still Waiting,” the seven-piece Minneapolis funk band PHO is proud to announce their first-ever run of shows in Colorado, planned for June 2017.

PHO’s energetic live shows are well-known in the midwestern cities of Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison, WI, but their journey to Colorado marks the band’s maiden voyage to the Western US. With a rapidly growing fan base, the time is right for PHO to bring their updated take on the classic Minneapolis sound to one of the country’s most thriving jam scenes.

The four-night run brings PHO to the popular Fox Theatre in Boulder; Cervantes’ Other Side in Denver; Hodi’s Half Note in Fort Collins; and the Beanstalk Music & Mountain Festival, where they proudly share a lineup with Fruition, Cory Henry of the Grammy Award winning band Snarky Puppy, Reed Mathis & Electric Beethoven, the Magic Beans, and many more. Joining PHO on the Colorado run is the seven-piece jazz & soul band from Dallas, The Funky Knuckles. A full list of shows is below.

A young and growing band, PHO has been proving their funky prowess to the national music scene with powerful live shows that keep crowds dancing, and they’ve done it alongside big names in the business, including The Motet, Dopapod, Dumpstaphunk, TAUK, and many more. PHO has been gaining fans with every show they play, but the band made an unexpected fan in the winter of 2016. Prince caught a live performance of the band from their YouTube page, which prompted an invite to open for Larry Graham (Graham Central Station) at the iconic Paisley Park in Chanhassen, MN.

PHO’s second album, two, produced by  John Davis (FLY - Lettuce, Blood from a Stone - Eric Krasno Band, Introducing Nigel Hall - Nigel Hall) and featuring Kirk Johnson of Prince’s New Power Generation on percussion will be out this May. Check out the first two singles from their new album at the  Soundcloud.

Upcoming PHO shows:

4/14 La Crosse, WI: Midwest Music Fest

4/15 Milwaukee, WI: Miramar Theater*

4/21 Minneapolis, MN: Triple Rock**

As an eventful summer rolls on, Turkuaz is enthused to unveil a throng of additional dates to their Fall 2017 Tour.  Consisting of just short of fifty stops and covering ground from coast to coast, the extensive run maintains the band on a busy schedule through December.  In addition to Sinkane, who joins throughout the already announced West Coast leg, other hand picked special guests include Con Brio, The Suffers, & Pimps Of Joytime.  Amidst the many club and theater plays, including a hometown show at the newly opened Brooklyn Steel, are a handful of festival appearances including Whale Rock Music Festival, Joshua Tree Music Festival, LEAF Festival, & Hangtown Music Festival.  The last two dates revealed today lay anticipation towards The Ball Drop, the band’s annual New Year’s event that remains unannounced at the moment.  Special fan pre-sale tickets are available now at www.turkuazband.com ahead of general public on sale this Friday, Aug 18 @ 12pm local time.

They’ve become one of Brooklyn’s freshest exports, nine charismatic men and women brightly outfitted to have their colorful nature match their expressive voice, playing sounds that blend genuine soul and a potent funk that can’t be forced.  It’s been a quickly addictive pulse and a reputation for a distinct, heavy footed “Powerfunk” that continues to steadily grow their presence.  Since hitting the road hard in 2012, Turkuaz have a released a handful of albums, canvassed the US more times over, and continued to gather devoted listeners along the way.  The band has made impactful appearances at Bonnaroo & Red Rocks, and filled rooms east to west from Terminal 5 in New York to The Fillmore in San Francisco.  Balancing the conventional wisdom that has sparked their flame and using its heat to forge their own sword, Turkuaz is a band that can make anyone appreciate the side that feels familiar, yet remain intrigued by it’s ability to explore its own complex character comprised of nine striking personalities.

Live, Turkuaz is a rock band at the core, yet conjures up sweaty dance parties with the flick of an on-switch, a synchronized dance palette of vibrant colors, and eargasms that deliver pleasing punches one song at a time.  That combination is a spectacle that’s hard to miss and hard to leave feeling anything short of quenched.
