Boulder, CO based power trio Envy Alo is set to release their first full-length LP “Live at the Boulder Theater”on July 28th via Spotify and iTunes.

Recorded on 5/27/17 during a headlining performance at the historic hometown venue, “Live at the Boulder Theater” captures the versatility and infectious energy of Envy Alo. The up-tempo performance stays true to the group’s minimalistic trio sound—Aaron Pettine on keyboards, Kevin Hinder on guitar, and Nate Etter on drums.

Instrumental funk ditties pad the setlist (“Tantronious,” “Prom King,” “Just a Fad”), yet Hinder takes on lead vocals during the opening “Wastin’ Time” and the reggae-tinged “When I Play” while Pettine does the same on “Once.” Choice covers include the fusion of Jeff Beck’s “You Know What I Mean,” a Krasno-esque take of the Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” and the Led Zeppelin deep cut “The Wanton Song” to end the show.

Formed in the fall of 2015, Envy Alo has drawn comparisons to jazz-funk trio Soulive (drummer Alan Evan’s mastered the band’s debut EP “One Time”) and the concise, catchy funk recipe of Vulfpeck. The sound is built on the foundation of double duty keyboardist Aaron Pettine, who plays punchy bass leads on his left hand while adding tasteful Hammond organ with his right. Locked in with the syncopated style of drummer Nate Etter, the two create an environment ripe for the chops of guitarist Kevin Hinder. Hinder’s bright tone and unapologetic creativity, fine-tuned in the halls of James Madison University’s School of Music, brings to mind elements of jazz pioneers John Scofield and Jimmy Herring.

Envy Alo will be announcing a string of fall dates in support of “Live at the Boulder Theater,” building on a year that has included Front Range shows with Marco Benevento and jam up-in-comers Cycles.

Envy Alo, a six-piece funk outfit based in Boulder, CO, is set to release a new full-length LP “Cruise Control” on September 14, 2018. In partnership with Denver’s Renegade Brewing Company, the band will launch a curated beer called “Envy Brut IPA” during an Album Release Party at Renegade’s Denver taproom on Friday, September 14.

Recorded live in one take at Camera Jams Studio in Arvada, CO, the 12-track “Cruise Control” is the band’s sophomore full-length album following “Live at Boulder Theater” in 2017. In the year since their last release, Envy Alo has transformed from an organ-driven trio of Aaron Pettine on keys, Kevin Hinder on guitar, and Nate Etter on drums into a powerhouse six-piece with the additions of vocalist Callie Morrocco, bassist Karl Summers, and saxophonist Kevin Supina.

“Cruise Control” fully captures the band’s live experience, ranging from extended jams like the ten-minute odyssey “Just A Fad” and the driving “Tantronius” to the concise opening single “Prom Queen” that is reminiscent of catchy modern funk acts like Vulfpeck. “Either Day” briefly takes the band into rag-tag country territory, while Morrocco’s sultry vocals shine on the R&B ballad “Tigress.” Throughout, the band shows a unique ability to collectively improvise, driven by the searing solo work of Hinder on guitar and Supina on saxophone and EWI. “Cruise Control” finds the revamped project firing on all cylinders, offering listeners a cohesive collection that will please pop, funk, or jam sensibilities alike.

“Cruise Control” will be released, along with “Envy Brut IPA,” on September 14 during an Album Release Party at Renegade Brewing Company in Denver from 6-9 pm. The Brut IPA is a collaboration between the brewery and the band that will offer drinkers a crisp, champagne-like ale with a distinct hop finish. The beer will be available for a limited time at Renegade’s Denver tap room on 9th Avenue.

Envy Alo will continue to play shows in support of “Cruise Control” through the end of the year, including a support slot for Dopapod guitarist Rob Compa’s Birthday Hang at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom on October 12.

Envy Alo, the up-and-coming funk outfit from Denver, will release a new full-length studio album “Ship It” on all major platforms on Friday, January 17th. In support of the LP, the band will throw an Album Release Party the following night, Saturday, January 18th with Monk Gyatso at Lost Lake in Denver, with a Mountain West tour to follow.

Recorded at Evergroove Studio in Evergreen, CO over the course of 2019, “Ship It” is Envy Alo’s first full-length studio album since 2018’s Cruise Control and beautifully captures the band’s polished, eclectic sound of recent months. While on the surface Envy Alo is a six-piece funk ensemble--Callie Morrocco on lead vocals, Aaron Pettine on keyboards, Kevin Hinder on guitar, Kevin Supina on saxophones and vocals, Karl Summers on bass, and Nate Etter on drums--”Ship It” finds the band treading into uncharted, genre-defying territory. The eleven-track odyssey holds a groove and your attention, but dives between waves of soul, R&B, Afro-Cuban, drum & bass, blues, jazz, heavy rock, and of course funk, while still maintaining a cohesive final product.

As saxophonist Kevin Supina attests, “This album truly feels like a culmination of the last few years of the bands evolution, growing from four members to six. The title track actually started as an instrumental a few years ago and had been shelved for a while, but we dusted it off, Nate wrote some lyrics, and we totally rearranged it. I think that really encapsulates the changes we’ve gone through. All six members of the band have writing credits on the album, and our time in the studio was a truly collaborative effort. We had been playing most of the material live for a while before we got to the studio, allowing the songs time to evolve and everyone to find their unique voice on everything. Brad also helped us immensely in refining and realizing the vision we had for the album.”

Brad Smalling, owner of Evergroove Studio, engineered, mixed and mastered “Ship It.” The album also features guest musicians to create it’s full sound. Denver-based percussionist Will Trask (Great American Taxi, The High Hawks, Analog Son) is prominent on almost every track, with subtle layers of shaker and tambourine giving way to a handful of brilliant flashes on timbale, congas, and wood blocks. Taking cues from horn arrangements composed by Supina, the Mercenary Horns--brothers Mark and Matt Wilkolak--also put their stamp on the album with rich harmonies on trombone and trumpet respectively.

Envy Alo’s Album Release Party for “Ship It” will be on Saturday, January 18th, a day after release, with Monk Gyatso at Lost Lake in Denver. Tickets can still be purchased here, though the show is expected to sell out. Following Lost Lake, the band will play Snowstalk on January 25th supporting the Magic Beans and Kyle Hollingsworth Band and will head out on a Mountain West Tour through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah and Colorado in March.

Following the release of the song “Only Way in November, Denver-based funk ensemble Envy Alo is at it again with, “Give in to the Light,” the second single off their forthcoming full-length studio album. The single will be released on all major music platforms on Friday, December 6th, the same day the band will play a sold-out show at Cervantes Other Side in Denver with Goose and DIZGO.

In contrast to the gritty rocker “Only Way”, “Give in to the Light” finds the band in a smooth, inspirational place. Within seconds the rich, comforting vocal harmonies from singer Callie Morrocco bring a smile to your face, as you drift into a state of blissful zen. Written by guitarist Kevin Hinder, lyrically the tune is a refreshing anthem calling on listeners to overcome adversity and diffuse negativity by embracing a positive outlook in life. Ominous lines like “Everyday is meant to be a struggle...” or “When darkness is everywhere…” quickly give way to a prescription to “Keep your head up high / Give in to the Light / Let it all go / Don’t stop the fight.” Regardless of circumstance, the song beautifully encourages all of us to not only find the light within ourselves, but to share it with the world.

Recorded at Evergroove Studio in Evergreen, CO, “Give in to the Light” continues with a polished, radio-ready sound for the band. Catchy runs from Hinder and saxophonist Kevin Supina line the tune and gracefully set up Morrocco’s verses throughout. Following a chorus, a tasteful tenor sax solo from Supina flows into a climactic Hammond B3 organ solo from keyboardist Aaron Pettine--perhaps the happiest moment in the objectively happy single.

Conveniently, the release of “Give in to the Light” coincides with a sold-out show for the band at Cervantes Other Side in Denver with Goose and DIZGO. In addition to this play, tickets are now available for the band’s Album Release Party on Saturday, January 18th at Lost Lake in Denver.

Members of local six-piece band Envy Alo might be isolated at home, but they have become tighter than ever during quarantine. Collaborating remotely from their home studios using the program Splice, the band’s Home Splice Sessions videos have been a hit online with their fans as they set their sights on Beanstalk: At The Drive In!, Colorado’s first socially distant music festival at a drive-in theater.

“The Home Splice Sessions really just came out of us wanting to keep making music while stuck at home,” says keyboardist and founding member Aaron Pettine. “I brought the program Splice to the band where we could all collaborate on the same files online, and the next thing you know we had three or four originals done that we’ve wanted to lay down for a long time in the studio. It’s really made this time apart feel more connected and has us all feeling optimistic for the future.”

The band has been releasing a new Home Splice Session release every week since April, and has no intentions of slowing down. The songs consist of homemade individual takes on video from each member--Callie Morrocco on vocals, Kevin Supina on saxophone and vocals, Aaron Pettine on keyboards, Kevin Hinder on guitar, Karl Summers on bass, and Nate Etter on drums. The takes are then combined by videographer Mark Pietrovito to create a live mosaic of a music video.

The band featured a Home Splice Session set of five new originals on the successful digital music festival Live From Out There in April and has a cover of Tom Misch and FKJ’s tune “Losing My Way” due out on May 31st. Based on the success of the videos, the band plans to remaster and release a collection of the tunes on Spotify as The Home Splice Sessions LP in the coming months. They are also working on a tutorial videos series of home studio rig rundowns to help other bands create similar content.

“It’s been a completely unique and satisfying new way to create music,” says drummer Nate Etter. “Kevin Supina our saxophonist has been in Wyoming through most of this, we don’t live together, but we’re still catching up weekly on Zoom calls and connecting musically in ways that I don’t think we always got to live. We’ve all stepped into a studio mindset and improved our musicianship. It’s more about ‘what can I do to make my part great?’ and less about ‘let’s get into this deep group improv’.”

Envy Alo was quick to team up with The Magic Beans when they found out they were also trying to find innovative ways to keep making music during the pandemic...this time in a live setting. The weekend of June 26-27 Beanstalk: At The Drive-In! will be the state’s first outdoor live music festival at Holiday Twin Drive-In in Fort Collins. Both days of the festival sold out in hours.

The festival will feature live bands who will be streamed to the big screen and audio will be transmitted through car radios. The festival will adhere to all State and Local social distancing guidelines with cars parked in every other spot. On Saturday, Envy Alo opens the show at 5 pm followed by sets from The Kitchen Dwellers, The Magic Beans, and Cycles.
