FoCoMX 2016 is incorporating several new features this year including a comedy lineup and FoCoMX preevents at The Ramskeller and Zwei Brewing. Presented by the Fort Collins Musicians Association (FoCoMA) and sponsored by Odell Brewing Co., the 8th annual FoCoMX weekend boasts over 250 Colorado bands and solo musicians at 25 Downtown Fort Collins venues.

Youth programming and student involvement is featured this year with Kids Programming at Everyday Joe’s Coffee House, youth performances throughout the lineup and an extensive partnership with Colorado State University. Mr. Marty (http://www.kidsmusic.co/), 15yearold Maya Bennet and Linneage Music Project (http://www.lineagemusicproject.com/) are some of the favorites in the youth lineup. FoCoMX has teamed up with an honors class at CSU to mentor students in a reallife marketing project to market a CSU Ramskeller preevent, as well as working with Rocky Mountain Student Media to shoot archival video and execute cross platform coverage of the event to provide real world event experiences. The free live music event will be located in the newly remodeled and ever popular Lory Student Center’s “Ramskeller” on Friday, April 15 and will feature two Colorado State University alumni bands, WriteMinded and Slow Caves from 36pm.

“Mentoring students is a key part of growing the next generation of Fort Collins music lovers. We are able to do this by booking youth bands, including programming for younger audiences, as well as working with CSU on events and marketing campaigns.” Peggy Lyle, FoCoMA Board of Directors.

Zwei Brewing will also host a second FoCoMX preevent on Saturday, April 16 from 36pm featuring Fort Collins’ favorites Post Paradise Duo and Tallgrass. This is the only venue not located in the Fort Collins Downtown area.  “We would love to expand to more venues outside of the downtown area as the festival grows; Zwei Brewery reached out to us and we thought it would be a great opportunity to partner with a south venue and promote the FoCoMX weekend,” explained Greta Cornett, President of Fort Collins Musician Association (FoCoMA).

FoCoMX 2016 also features comedy acts from local comedians between sets at several venues. “We are extremely proud to add comedy to our FoCoMX festivities this year! We are happy to showcase another talented genre of performers in our community and feel they will bring a unique element of excitement to the festival,” said Cornett.

The Fort Collins Musicians Association (FoCoMA) has been continually monitoring the COVID-19 situation and following the orders and recommendations of the CDC, the State of Colorado and the Larimer County Health Department. Due to mass gathering restrictions, temporary business closures and with health recommendations in mind, FoCoMA has made the decision to cancel the “in person” Fort Collins Music eXperiment music festival. The event was previously rescheduled from its traditional April dates to Sept 4 and 5, 2020 due to COVID-19. FoCoMA made this tough decision based on the health and safety of our musicians and community members.

FoCoMX has been reimagined into two safe musical options. Music fans can see live music at our in person concert series, “FoCoMX Drive & Jive” every Tuesday through the end of October. Fans can also participate in sharing their photos and memories of past festivals during FoCoMX: A Digital Retrospective held exclusively online on September 4 and 5 via FoCoMA and FoCoMX social media channels.

Music fans are encouraged to attend the FoCoMX Drive & Jive series to see bands in person in a safe environment. The concerts are live, socially distanced music performances every Tuesday evening now through October at The Holiday Twin Drive In. Each concert hosts three Northern Colorado acts from diverse genres live on stage which is broadcast up onto the big screen allowing audience members to safely enjoy the show from the comfort of their own vehicles. Tickets and lineups at https://holidaytwin.eventsmart.com/event-category/drive-n-jive/

FoCoMX: A Digital Retrospective is a reimagining of the FoCoMX September weekend, allowing fans and bands to enjoy and share photos, videos, and stories of their favorite FoCoMX memories virtually through social media. The Retrospective will occur on September 4 & 5, 2020 through the FoCoMX social media channels. People can tag @focomx and #focomx to celebrate their love for local music. More details will roll out in later August through the FoCoMX Facebook page.

FoCoMA continues to work to support our area musicians through live shows when possible, connection to mental health support, resources and professional development, and creative projects. We're working strategically to get feedback from our musician community as we design new programs that FoCoMA will be launching later this fall. We encourage our community to support Northern Colorado musicians, music venues, local businesses and neighbors during these uncertain times. You can find more information about our fall programming and upcoming events at www.focoma.org

Although the festival was unable to happen in it’s ideal format for two years, FoCoMA had been producing music shows throughout the pandemic. The return of FoCoMX marks a return to some normalcy after two years of difficulty for the music community and population at large due to the pandemic.

“FoCoMX is a great music festival, not only because there’s so many amazing local bands that play, but because it’s a really wonderful opportunity that we have to strengthen the bonds of the music community.”, says Stevie Heck, a Fort Collins musician and band member.

FoCoMX started in 2009 as a grassroots experiment in promoting local music. The festival is musician-focused, nonprofit, and volunteer-powered and supports local musicians and The Fort Collins Musicians Association’s mission to provide education, support, and networking opportunities to the Fort Collins and surrounding music community.

Proceeds from the festival go to pay musicians for their performances and a portion of the profits are reinvested by FoCoMA back into the local music scene through our InTune Musician Wellness Program that includes a quarterly Music Industry Night, as well as, performance and networking opportunities for musicians of all ages.

The goals of FoCoMA are to create a sustainable and deep-rooted infrastructure that supports Northern Colorado music by encouraging businesses to open up their space to local music while growing a sense of community within our musical community. We aim to encourage new artists, support established musicians, and raise all artists' self-worth through raising national awareness of the Northern Colorado music scene.

Proceeds from the festival go to pay musicians for their performances and a portion of the profits are reinvested by FoCoMA back into the local music scene through FoCoMA’s InTune Musician Wellness Program that include a quarterly Music Industry Night, as well as, performance and networking opportunities for musicians of all ages.

The goal of FoCoMA is to create a sustainable and deep-rooted infrastructure that supports Northern Colorado music by encouraging businesses to open up their space to local music while growing a sense of community within our musical community. We aim to encourage new artists, support established musicians, and raise all artists' self-worth through raising national awareness of the Northern Colorado music scene.
