Fruit Bats Open Up in Wild Therapy Session During "Sick of This Feeling" Video

Today, Fruit Bats launch a new video for the song “Sick of This Feeling” from their newly released album A River Running to Your Heart (Merge Records).

The six-minute video directed by Adam Willis is part mockumentary, part surrealist fantasy, all comical mind bender. The opening shot zooms in on a nondescript office building with Eric D. Johnson in a therapy session, talking about spilling five gallons of milk on himself, nightmares in which Mr. T is in the band, and wondering what hip flexors are. Between kitschy video production, matching teal track suits, and a dramatic plot twist, this is a must-watch companion to today’s album release of A River Running to Your Heart. A River Running to Your Heart is Fruit Bats’ tenth full-length album and first since The Pet Parade in 2021. It is receiving widespread attention from Smithsonian Folkways, AV Club, Grammy.com, Aquarium Drunkard, Relix, Uncut, and many others. AV Club praised the album saying, “Eric D. Johnson shows no signs of slowing down in his forthcoming LP, A River Running To Your Heart.”

“Over the years there's been a lot of geography in my music, a lot of landscapes,” Johnson says of the new album. “Sometimes the places are real, sometimes they're emotional. I've always liked the idea of songs and albums that exist in a continuum with one another. I'm not talking about some kind of deep series of concept albums, mind you. More like the idea that my songs are all pretty much tributaries of the same river. Which makes a lot of metaphorical sense because my path has been long and winding and often slow and muddy. But always moving towards the sea.

“I guess you could say this album is the one where I took all that emotional geography and kind of mapped it out.”

In support of A River Running to Your Heart, Fruit Bats are currently on tour in the United States and Canada in April and May. Tickets are available now.
