Grammy-winning artist Madison Cunningham debuts her new song, “Subtitles,”—listen/share the track here and watch an accompanying visualizer here.

Of the song, Cunningham details, “‘Subtitles’ is set at the end of the world where there’s this impending disaster that is quickly approaching, and everyone has been warned, yet the people below still bobble around going on and on bickering about human things, misunderstanding each other. It’s poking at the scale of how significant and insignificant everything is. And despite the real elemental forces at work that are beyond our control, we can still be our own means of destruction in our own little worlds.”

“Subtitles” follows the release of the digital deluxe edition of Cunningham’s Grammy-award winning album, Revealer — listen HERE.

The deluxe edition features “Hospital (One Man Down),” her recent collaboration with singer-songwriter and producer Remi Wolf, as well as previously unreleased songs “Death By Suspicion” and “Inventing The Wheel;” Consequence lauds the latter track, noting, “it’s a swirling world of sound that’s held together by Cunningham’s soft lead vocals, which gracefully dance above the acoustic instrumentation.”

Currently, Cunningham is serving as direct support for the entirety of Hozier’s U.S. tour, which kicked off last month with upcoming stops at Morrison’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and more. In addition, Cunningham is set to support John Mayer on his spring 2024 E.U./U.K. solo run. Complete list of dates below.

Revealer was released last year to widespread critical acclaim and took home the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album at the 65th Annual ceremony. Watch Cunningham perform “Life According to Raechel” from the album during the premiere ceremony HERE.

Revealer marks Cunningham’s first Grammy win and fourth nomination overall, having also been nominated for Best American Roots Performance for “Life According To Raechel,” as well as Best Folk Album for Wednesday (Extended Edition) in 2021 and Best Americana Album for Who Are You Now in 2020.

Critical acclaim for Revealer below and read more in interactive one sheet HERE:

“The clear leader of her band of crack, Southern California musicians…she was also our audacious guide, steering us toward exploration with the shrewd parts she played on three different guitars over the course of four songs.”—NPR Music “Tiny Desk”

“[‘Our Rebellion’ is] a perpetual-motion weave of deftly picked guitar lines in a brisk 7/4 meter, stacking up and realigning, jabbing and easing off, sometimes running backward, as the crafty wrangling goes on.”—The New York Times

“She may draw you in with her guitar riffs—intricate, experimental and rhythmically dense. Perhaps it’s her voice, rich in country-rock earthiness yet expressive on a technical level. Maybe it’s the vividly painted character portraits that anchor her lyrics. What your entry point is, the California native expertly balances weirdness and warmth on her second LP, Revealer.”—Relix

“She is such a subtly kickass guitarist, and this record contains one of the most beautiful, tear-jerking ballads I've heard in a really, really long time called ‘Life According To Raechel’” —NPR

“Revealer contains some of the most fearless guitar playing and tones you’ll hear today.” —Guitar World

“Not only is she a master of arranging inimitable indie rock gems, she’s an incredible guitar player, period.”—Consequence

“Her songs feel like perfectly and eccentrically built cupboards, housing everything just so inside different nooks, making well-organized space for the shape of every word and synth swell. From the melodies and arrangements to the lyrics, it is clear that this LP is in the most vulnerable space, one of self-consciousness coupled with a lot of emotion in every possible direction.”— Paste Magazine
