On 4th November, Norway’s Real Ones released their 3rd single “Early Evening” from their upcoming album, Love Your Mother.

Following on the themes of the world's ecological crisis and unity as expressed in the first two singles– the album title track and “Brother”-- “Early Evening” proves to be yet another folk rock gem, boasting the band’s signature lush, melodious sound while tracking the arc of our uncertain future. The song’s VIDEO, also released on Friday, was shot by the band in their hometown of Bergen, Norway.

Real Ones continue to see dedicated audiences wherever they play: From Svalbard to Yukon to Shanghai to Mumbai to Brussels to New York, the band continues to grow new audiences globally. Touted as one of the best live acts in Norway, Real Ones’ distinctive sound has now reverberated for some 28 years, with 12 albums, 4 EPs, 2 Spellemenn (Norwegian Grammy Awards) and over 1,000 concerts in 15 countries (on 3 continents under their belts. And these 5 childhood friends are still ready for new adventures.

Real Ones were formed in 1994, starting out as a traditional folk music band. A constant search for new sounds and new ways subsequently transformed the band into one of Norway’s most unique and experimental outfits working within the genres of folk, pop and rock, with clear inspiration from world music and from modern electronic music. Their lifelong brotherhood only fortified development of their own musical lexicon.

The result of effort and collaboration over the years earned Real Ones critical acclaim as well as warm reception by audiences around the world. Whether in a small church in Northern Canada, in front of thousands of people in China, at a cricket club in Kolkata, at folk and jazz festivals, or at hipster clubs in London, Real Ones have always had an exceptional ability to move audiences.

The group started working on Love Your Mother, the follow up to their 2018 release, Hey Future, Hey Past, on March 7, 2020. As with many other music makers, Covid shuttered their performance plans, so the band decided, instead, to head into the studio. The results proved to be magical– this time, leaning on more acoustic strains than past offerings, inspired by Latin American folk music, and sporting vocals armed with gorgeous 3-part harmonies. The album, produced by Matias Tellez (Norwegian Grammy winner), was recorded and mixed at the band’s Fram Studio, in the shadow of an old warehouse near the Bergen harborside.

“It’s organic, it's natural, mostly recorded live in the studio, and mostly about nature and how to live during an ecological crisis,” says Real Ones Ivar Chelsom Vogt (Guitar/Vocals) of the new material, “we had two dogmas: (1) no synthesizers. If we felt we needed something similar, we’d record clay flutes, bought when we were in Mexico in 2006. And (2), if electric guitar, no amp, just plugged into the mixer.”

Love Your Mother, and is set for release on January 13, 2023.

‘Early Evening’ is out now on Breaking Records.

Real Ones are: David Chelsom Vogt – violin, vocals, keyboards, Ivar Chelsom Vogt – guitar, vocals, keyboards, Jørgen Sandvik – guitar, vocals, sitar, banjo, Øystein Skjælaaen – bass, backing vocals, Kåre Opheim – drums, backing vocals.
