Papa Grows Funk recently released their their new album Needle In The Groove on Funky Krewe Records and for the 12th consecutive year, the group of all-star musician will perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Quint Davis, producer of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival calls the group, “One of THE best and most important funky bands in New Orleans. We couldn't be prouder."  Papa Grows Funk perform on Sunday, April 29th at 2:20pm on the Gentilly Stage.  The festival performance is ALL AGES and you can still get tickets here
Papa Grows Funk teamed up with the legendary Allen Toussaint and fellow ‘who dat’ Tom Drummond of Better Than Ezra to create “Mardi Gras in a bottle” with Needle In The Groove.  The band have been touring constantly to sold out venues and the album is currently climbing up the jazz charts (#36 on CMJ).
On Saturday, May 5 Papa Grows Funk opens for their hero’s The Original Meters (Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr. & Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste) for a once in a lifetime JazzFest Club Concert at Howlin' Wolf.  The event is long sold out, but the resourcefulness of festival-goers can never be denied.
With no play lists and no rehearsals every Papa Grows Funk performance is its own masterpiece of funk. On any given night, the band might change songs or grooves. But one thing is certain: whether it is jam band college kids or seersucker wearing professionals, five folks or 100,000, after John Gros announces “We’re Papa Grows Funk from the great city of New Orleans,” the crowd is going to go wild.
