Spafford kicked off their summer tour with an electric performance at the Arrow @ Archer Music Hall in Allentown, an exclusive and intimate companion stage for the brand-new Archer Music Hall. The first set opened with “Gold Glittered Hat,” immediately setting a vibrant tone that flowed seamlessly into “All My Friends” and then “Bee Jam.” This opening sequence showcased Spafford’s ability to weave intricate musical narratives, transitioning with a fluidity that captivated the audience. After a brief repose with the blues-infused “Motel 6,” the band launched into the sprawling 20-minute “Mind’s Unchained.” This piece highlighted their collective musicianship, building through dynamic peaks and valleys that prepared the crowd for the sonic adventures ahead.

The second set consisted of only three songs, allowing for extensive exploration within each piece. It began with “Broken Wing,” which quickly became the centerpiece of the night, clocking in at an impressive 35 minutes. Within this extended jam, sharp-eared fans picked up on a distinct “Dark Star” tease—a playful nod that sent a ripple of excitement through the crowd. Following this monumental jam, Spafford smoothly transitioned into “Gotta Save Fred” and then the intricate “Frog Gossip.” Despite the limited number of songs, the depth of improvisation within each allowed the set to feel complete and incredibly satisfying, demonstrating the band’s confidence in their ability to hold an audience’s attention through sheer musicality.
