Festivals

I must admit, it was a definite benefit to be in the Mitten beneath the starlit skies of the 10th anniversary of Hoxeyville 2012.  Michigan people have manners that transmit an infinite welcome.  Their wit submitted to my ultimate delight as I attended my first ever Hoxeyville Music Festival.  Ten years of Hoxeyvillians got together over the August 16 – 19th weekend and threw an exquisite party to celebrate the beauty of a tight knit famil

As the summer festival season comes to a close, Bear Creek Music and Arts Festival gears up for an incredible sixth year. Held at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, Bear Creek is steeped in the tradition of funk music and the exceptional lineup reflects the eclectic nature of the scene. The lineup – which already features Umphrey's McGee, Lotus, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, The New Mastersounds, Zach Deputy, George Porter Jr.

AURA Music Events has announced Papadosio, Conspirator, Perpetual Groove and The Heavy Pets as headliners for AURA Music & Arts Festival 2013!

Nestled in the Catskill Mountains of New York is the third annual Catskill Chill, with music all day and night from Sept. 7 through 9. This year’s lineup spans across many genres of music including bands like Yonder Mountain String Band, JGB Band with Melvin Seals, Conspirator and EOTO.

As summer comes and goes, and fall prepares to color our world, one of the first signs of fall in North Carolina is the family and wallet friendly Jomeokee Music and Arts Festival located at the Jomeokee Campground, at 1140 Paces Place Road, Pinnacle, North Carolina.

As I arrived at the festival grounds Sunday, August 26th, I regrettably walked in right as Grant Farm was playing their closing chords. I heard their forward-flowing jamgrass sound from the walk down. This Nederland and Front-Range mainstay band led by National Flatpicking Champion Tyler Grant is one of the hottest local bluegrass acts to catch.

In case there was any confusion regarding Yonder Mountain String Band’s capacity for throwing down an amazing show that everybody can enjoy, the band brought out three little girls on stage during a cover of Danny Barnes’ “Funtime” who danced and whipped their hair with more fervor than Willow Smith herself.

Saturday saw some true veteran acts of NedFest returning for the 14th year. San Francisco jam-band New Monsoon returned to Colorado after an extended hiatus from national touring (people get married, have kids, you know?) I used to see New Monsoon a few times a year in Colorado back in the mid 2000s.

Us Coloradoans are blessed with the summer opportunity to attend so many wonderful destination music festivals. From Telluride to Lyons, from Aspen to Nederland, the amount of music and fun available is really endless. Anybody considering moving from their ordinary neck-of-the-woods to Colorado could assure himself or herself that the music scene out here is at a peak in the summer months.  I have two summer favorites that I never miss.
