Béla Fleck and the Flecktones

While Béla Fleck & The Flecktones were confirming the final dates on their most extensive tour in years, a hippo-shaped asteroid soared close to the earth (1.8 million miles, as reported by The Independent), as predicted by the band’s 1991 album Flight of the Cosmic Hippo.

On Saturday, December 22, a mile-long, hippo-shaped asteroid soared at a distance of 1.8 million miles from Earth, and a closer pass will not occur until 2070, reports The Independent.

Béla Fleck & The Flecktones started out in 1988 when Béla put the band together for a TV show called The Lonesome Pine Specials. 30 years later, the original lineup is heading out on the road for 13 shows this Summer.

Continuing the 120-year-old tradition of bringing music, oration and the arts to the Boulder community, the Colorado Chautauqua Association, steward of Boulder’s cultural and historical gem the Colorado Chautauqua National Historic Landmark, is pleased to announce its 2018 Summer Concert Series. From Amos Lee and Andrew Bird, to Graham Nash, Ziggy Marley and Mary Chapin Carpenter, this year’s lineup presents a diverse mix of performers across genres that appeal to every music fan.

In the last decade, one the North Bay Area and wine country’s premier venues has become Weill Hall at Sonoma State University. Housed in the Green Music Center, this indoor/outdoor hybrid venue space is one of a kind. The theater has stunning wooden seats and a double-tiered balcony, while the outdoor lawn seating is ideal for year long daytime and nighttime shows. Despite its sizeable capacity, it feels homey and intimate with projector screens displaying multi-shot coverage of the stage up-close.

Dylan Muhlberg of Grateful Web. I am thrilled to be joined by Grammy Award winning bassist Victor Wooten. His virtuosic techniques have yielded an illustrious solo career and continuing collaborations with music legends of similar caliber such as Bela Fleck and Stanley Clarke.

The Victor Wooten Band put on a show featuring four bassists, all switching up on multiple instruments at various times during their set, along with a vocalist with a truly, truly unforgettable voice plus two extremely talented drummers.  Their set was as unique as it was enjoyable. If rhythm sections float your boat, you better be prepared for a musical tsunami with this bunch.

Anyone that knows anything about soul music knows that it’s not a genre or a categorization, but a feeling. Sometimes Rhythm and Blues, Motown, or Funk will all get associated with soul music, but usually isn’t a defining element of a specific sound or mode of playing. It is what it describes: coming from the soul. So when you take an artist like Victor Wooten, soul would not be the first “buzz word” that comes to mind. Virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist, genre bending, five time Grammy Award Winner.

Z2 Entertainment is proud to present Victor Wooten Band with Special Guest at the Boulder Theater on Thursday, July 12th, 2012.  Tickets go on sale Friday, April 27th at 10:00am for $23.00 advance & $27.00 the day of the show. Victor has been touring with his own band since 1997 in various forms and formats all over the globe.

What can’t Bela Fleck do? Or maybe the question is what can’t Bela Fleck do with a banjo? Aside from his history with the Flecktones, bridging and bending the idea of genre and fusion music he produced his first film, “Throw Down Your Heart”, a journey into the true origins of the banjo in Africa. The film also drew awareness to culture and struggles abroad, something rarely achieved through a concert film.
