Mt. Joy

Across various cultures and belief systems, the color orange symbolizes sunshine, creativity, heat, freedom, fascination, and fire. Mt. Joy channels this bright, bold, and brilliant energy on their 2022 third full-length offering, Orange Blood, which is set to release on June 17th via Island Records. The title track, which was released today across platforms, hinges on gently strummed guitar as woozy vocals echo over sparse swells of sound before the central hummable harmony drifts in and out of focus.

Philly Music Fest is proud to announce the identity of a surprise national headliner, Mt. Joy, who will play the first two nights of PMF at Ardmore Music Hall on October 10th and 11th.

Day three of Outside Lands brought along with it a familiar bittersweet feeling. The artists spanned such an eclectic genre, it felt hard to pinpoint a coherent theme of the artists of the day, but in a way, that felt entirely symbolic of everything the city of San Francisco should stand for. The day brought music from every imaginable genre from hip hop, to hard rock, artists whose music has almost been dwarfed by their political movements, and even a well-welcomed Grateful Dead cover in Golden Gate Park.

This week’s episode of Mighty SONG Writers comes from AAA radio chart-topping indie-folk artist Matt Quinn of Mt. Joy. In his video, Quinn covers the Grateful Dead’s “Dire Wolf,” explaining that that song’s storytelling drove him to become a songwriter, and plays one of his own songs that was inspired by Jerry Garcia. Quinn also thanks a formative English teacher, passes on songwriting advice that’s helped him, and explains why John Prine should be the second musician to win the Nobel Prize.
