San Diego-based musical outfit Slightly Stoopid released the official music video for their recent single “The Upside Down” - a funky hip-hop leaning reflection on the power of love in turbulent times that features guest verses from legendary MCs B-Real (Cypress Hill) and Chali 2na (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli). Animated by Mateusz Kijak and based on the original artwork by Dan Mumford, the video’s uniquely arresting visual style is the perfect compliment to the track’s message of unity, compassion, and understanding.
A staple of the band’s recently completed ‘Step Into The Sun’ summer tour, “The Upside Down” is the latest glimpse of Slightly Stoopid’s upcoming tenth studio album, due out next year. It follows the spirited single “Step Into The Sun,” released in early June. Recorded at the renowned Sonic Ranch studios in El Paso, Texas, the new album will mark the band’s first full-length release in eight years, following 2018’s Everyday Life, Everyday People.
Ending with a triumphant performance at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara CA, the ‘Step Into The Sun’ tour saw the band playing to amphitheater audiences in major markets including Boston, Philadelphia, Austin, and Charleston, with standout shows at the Cali Vibes Festival in Long Beach CA and Point Break festival in Virginia Beach VA, as well as a welcome return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for nearly the 20th time over the course of the band’s 3 decade history. During a three-night run in Texas, the band made headlines when singer Kyle McDonald lit a joint using an onstage laser mid-performance during the song “No Cocaine,” a stunt that left fans in awe and quickly lit up social media. Slightly Stoopid also donated a portion of the proceeds from their Texas performances to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, a charity that supports recovery efforts following the devastating floods that hit the region earlier this summer.
Along with new music and its 2025 summer tour, this year Slightly Stoopid also announced the 11th edition of their “Closer to the Sun’ all-inclusive festival vacation in Mexico. Taking place January 10-14, 2026, this one-of-a-kind experience includes three shows by Slightly Stoopid with a stacked lineup of additional headline level talent. Attendees will be treated to performances by Dirty Heads, Pepper, The Elovaters, The Movement, HIRIE, DENM, Little Stranger, Rebelution, and Rome, plus a special ‘Traffic Jam” performance by Damian Jr. Gong & Stephen Marley, and an Old Soul Unplugged set by Stephen Marley to round out the musical vacation.
