The Ardmore Music Hall welcomes back Matt Butler’s Everyone Orchestra for a night of exciting improvisation from some of the top names in live music plus a special opening set from Go Dopapod OG on Friday, April 13.

Everyone Orchestra will feature guitarists Jackie Greene and Cris Jacobs, drummer Jeremy Salken of Big Gigantic, bassist Taylor Shell and saxophonist Josh Schwartz of Turkuaz, and keyboard player Eli Winderman of Dopapod, who will also perform with Go Dopapod OG. With the brilliant mind of maestro Matt Butler at the helm, pushing a rotating group of highly skilled musicians through spontaneous creations of progressive rock / straight funk / live EDM / Americana and sonic directions in between, it’s a can’t miss show that will quite literally never happen again. While the songs change, the one thing that remains is the spirit of creativity fostered through Everyone Orchestra and its unique take on what a concert experience can be: an interactive and crowd-engaging EXPERIENCE!

Many Dopapod fans know them as a 4 piece rock band originating in a Boston at the Berklee College of Music on 2007. Only a few realize that they actually started as a duo with Eli Winderman on keys and Michelangelo Carubba on drums. After about a year or so they added Rob Compa on guitar and they toured as a trio for about a year after that, primarily around New England and Upstate NY. Many of the songs Dopapod fans know today actually originated during this time but in a slightly different instrumentation with Eli playing left hand bass. A decade after their inception, they will recreate this era of the band once again at the Ardmore Music Hall.

Between the potency of his richly detailed songwriting, his intensely emotional, soulful vocals and his piercing, expert guitar work, New Orleans’ Anders Osborne is a true musical treasure. A powerful live performer, Osborne has earned hordes of new fans. He has toured virtually non-stop, either with his own band, as a solo artist, or as a guest with his countless musical admirers, including Toots and The Maytals, Stanton Moore, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, The Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh, and Jackie Greene. Since his recording debut in 1989, Osborne has written virtually all of his own material and contributed memorable songs to a wide variety of artists.

“Rich and glorious…Osborne possesses a voice that rises out of the darkness to the light of a soulful, tremulous wail. He is a consummate showman and shaman, bending successive moments to suit his majestic purposes. Osborne seeks an epic quality to much of his music, crafting layer upon layer of hugely scaled soundscapes.…never lazily derivative…every slashing guitar figure, every cry of a lyric, seems to come from an authentic place.” -- New Orleans Times-Picayune

The Philadelphia area’s newest formed funk and soul supergroup, Star Kitchen, will make their debut performance at the Ardmore Music Hall this Friday November 9.

The core members of the band, bassist Marc Brownstein (the Disco Biscuits), guitarist Danny Mayer (Eric Krasno Band), keyboardist Rob Marscher (Addison Groove Project), and drummer Marlon Lewis (Lauryn Hill/John Legend) will converge on stage to take their audience on a deep improvisational journey through the funky cosmos. These four players are no strangers to delving deep into live musical performance, and with as diverse a musical background as any group can have, this night should be an unforgettable sonic experience for any music lover.

Now, as if those four players weren’t enough, the band has tapped a few extremely special guests to bring into the fold. In the spirit of musical community, the band will call on local heavy hitters vocalist Lady Alma and rapper Chill Moody, NYC saxophonist James Casey of Trey Anastasio Band, and lauded virtuosic slide guitarist Robert Randolph of Robert Randolph & The Family Band to truly take this concert to the top tier of funk.

Let the sweet sounds of acoustic strings coupled with infectious vocal harmonies soothe your soul this fall. The Ardmore Music Hall proudly presents these one of a kind bluegrass and Americana concerts all season long.

On Saturday November 10th, progressive bluegrass staples Yonder Mountain String Band return to AMH on their Fall tour with newly formed Americana rock outfit Brad Parsons & Starbird in tow. Yonder Mountain String Band, more commonly known to fans as just Yonder, have been revitalizing their sound after a lineup change a few years ago with the addition of mandolin player Jacob Joliff and fiddler Allie Kral. The new lineup has received high praise after their 2017 release “Love. Ain’t Love,” as well as keeping their infectious live show at top levels.

The following week on November 14th, AMH will welcome back yet another favorite national touring act - the recently crowned Instrumental Bluegrass Group of the Year, the Travelin’ McCourys. The Travelin’ McCourys feature Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo) McCoury, sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury. The group released their eponymous debut album this past May. They will be joined by Philadelphia folk outfit Hezekiah Jones.

The next day, nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Joshua Radin will debut on the Ardmore stage with a little help from songstress Lily Kershaw for what should be an unforgettable and powerful night of music. Radin came to the public eye through the success of his 2008 effort “Simple Times,” as well as his music being used in television and movies. Most notably his music can be heard on the soundtrack for Scrubs, Grey’s Anatomy, and House.

More shows are being added to the AMH calendar as the weeks progress into the fall and winter season. Keep your eye towards the Main Line for all of your live music needs!

Two popular Ardmore businesses, entertainment mainstay Ardmore Music Hall and restaurant hotspot Ripplewood Whiskey & Craft, are joining forces in a new partnership between current AMH owner Chris Perella and Ripplewood owners Biff Gottehrer and Pete Martin.  Martin, who purchased the real estate of the former Fellini Café at 29 East Lancaster and adjacent storefronts, approached Perella last fall to discuss the possibility of combining their efforts on Lancaster Avenue. Of the partnership with Ripplewood, Perella shares that it is both “special and sensible” as the teams operating both businesses will be able to share resources, ideas, staff, and support to create an unparalleled fan & guest experience.

Ardmore Music Hall, known as The 23 East Cabaret and Brownies 23 East between 1980 and 2012, was refreshed and rebranded in 2013. When Perella and partners purchased the club in 2014, they began to bring an elevated level of talent to town with nationally touring acts and sold-out shows featuring artists ranging from George Clinton and P-Funk, The Hooters, Toots & The Maytals, The Revivalists, Tim Reynolds, Stanley Clarke, Snarky Puppy, Television, Macy Gray, and The Psychedelic Furs. They also began offering more private events such as Bar & Bat Mitzvahs, the “Funky Brunch” featuring live music and craft vendors, and local acts like Grateful Dead tribute band Splintered Sunlight, who have played the venue over 1,000 times over several incarnations. “Unlike most Philly area venues, AMH isn’t backed by a major national corporation… it’s a true Mom & Pop operation” says Martin. “By combining our businesses we are strengthening both operations so that we can better serve the Main Line community with great tasting food and great sounding music.”

Ripplewood Whiskey & Craft, located directly next door to the Music Hall, opened to much fanfare in April 2018. Martin, who has been a real estate developer, investor, and Main Line resident since the 90’s, purchased the real estate for 29 E. Lancaster Avenue in May of 2016 in anticipation of Ardmore coming into new prominence. He then sought Gottehrer, an alum of both the Stephen Starr and Jose Garces culinary empires, to join the operation and create a modern American menu featuring high-quality local ingredients and an innovative cocktail program. The restaurant has quickly risen the ranks of the hottest Main Line eateries. Says Chef Gottehrer: “my first job was in Ardmore, I grew up 5 minutes away, my first show was at Brownies, and it has come full circle to open the Ripplewood and now to partner in AMH and give back to this great community that has been a part of my life since day one.”

Perella, Gottehrer, Martin and their management team are currently planning for exciting futures for both businesses, including capital improvements to AMH, such as a Lancaster Avenue-facing marquee and improvements to the service and comfort of the venue for fans & artists. One of the first ways they are combining efforts is the introduction of new menus at Ardmore Music Hall.  “We’re excited to elevate the food and beverage program at AMH” Perella says. “Offering diverse and interesting food at the Music Hall is something we’ve always wanted to do, but was difficult considering we are concert-focused first and foremost. With support from the Ripplewood team, we’ll be able to offer more fresh, seasonal and inspired food options. This is just the first of many ways we plan to grow with each other, and this community”.

To celebrate their partnership and highlight the new and exciting food program, Ardmore Music Hall will be open to the public with an event on Friday April 12th. Guests will be able to sample more than a dozen items from the new menu, created by the Ripplewood & AMH team led by Executive Chef Biff Gottehrer, as well as offerings from the Banquet / Private Events menu featured for Weddings, Mitzvahs & more. In addition to sampling the new dishes, guests will enjoy samples of new craft cocktails created by the Ripplewood & AMH operations team. Live music from two great local bands- The Whiskeyhickon Boys and The Sermon - will provide the soundtrack to the party.

Festivities kick off at 6 PM on 4/12 - visit www.ardmoremusic.com to find out how to reserve your experience.  Complimentary samples of the following menu items will be available throughout the evening:

Sliders: Falafel, Pork, Brisket

Caesar Salad Tacos - gem lettuce cups, roasted red peppers, radish, caesar dressing croutons

Since reactivating in mid-2016 the Squirrel Nut Zippers have been performing to packed houses across the country and around the world.  As band leader Jimbo Mathus has said since the band’s re-launch, ‘it’s not a reunion, it’s a revival!’

And the revival last year included the band’s first new studio album in eighteen years titled titled Beasts Of Burgundy.  The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart upon its release and the critics raved:

“There is, of course, jazz of various stripes (mainly pre-WWII varieties) on this deliciously wide-ranging comeback, but there’s so much more: sounds, identifiable and not, emanating from mysterious times and places, not the least of which is New Orleans, their home base, a land that, forever and still, has a mind of its own.” - Relix

The touring now continues into 2019 with the band announcing their first set of new tour dates for the year starting April 11th in Maquoketa, Iowa. Tickets for the April shows go on sale this Friday.

Between 1995-2000 the Squirrel Nut Zippers sold over three million albums.  Their watershed album, Hot (1996) was recorded in the heat of New Orleans, fueled by a smoldering mix of booze and a youthful hunger to unlock the secrets of old world jazz.  This passion mixed with klezmer, blues and random bits of contemporary musical leanings became the bands signature style.  At the time, there were few other bands inhabiting this space.  The album would eventually break free of any “jazz” stereotypes and land on commercial radio, taking the band to remarkable heights for what was essentially an anti-establishment sound.

Years later and through chronicles of every kind, the band has emerged from a lengthy recording hiatus, reinvigorated, reinvested, and rejuvenated.  With an all-star cast of New Orleans musicians, the band breathed new life in to the old material, and inspired Mathus to return to the studio to reignite the band’s unique, enigmatic sound.

After releasing her stunning UK top 10 record ‘Castles’ last year, Lissie has returned in 2019 with ‘When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective’- an evocative collection that reinterprets songs from her first decade in music, as well as exceptional covers of Fleetwood Mac and The Dixie Chicks.

Proving that her past isn’t static, the songs included on this release, some written nearly 10 years ago are still fresh and vibrant, evoking feelings old and new.  For Lissie, the idea behind ‘When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective’ came about almost as a test of each tune’s structural integrity.

“When you take a song out of its production and strip it down to its basic elements,” she opines,“you get the heart of the song. You find out whether it can stand on its own, whether it’s a good song. When they come down to their basic bones, are these really meaningful pieces that stand on their own?”

Where ‘Castles’ was defined by Lissie looking to expand her sound, reaching out for new sonic palettes, incorporating synths and drum machines into her sound, ‘When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective’ subtracts these elements, removing the noise and laying Lissie’s song writing bare for an emotive and powerful listening experience. The record is toned down but certainly not buttoned up.

Singles from the album include title track ‘When I’m Alone’ (Catching A Tiger, 2010), ‘Don’t You Give Up On Me’ (My Wild West, 2016), and the astonishing, skin-tingling, crystal prism that is Lissie’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’  - exclusive to The Piano Retrospective.

Known to be unafraid of change ‘When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective’ is a typically bold move from Lissie, showing an artist confident in revisiting and reinterpreting before she makes her next step.

Always on the radar of the folk and Americana faithful in the Philadelphia area, the Ardmore Music Hall will bring in a heaping helping of top notch singer-songwriters to their calendar for the spring season in the form of Canadian cowboy Colter Wall, Tennessee songwriter John Paul White (of The Civil Wars), and Midwestern songstress Lissie and two Philadelphia Folk Fest veterans in Memphis songstress Valerie June and outlaw country legend Steve Earle.

Kicking off our moth of songwriting genius, multi-instrumentalist Valerie June will hit the stage at 23 East for the first time on May 3 on her Astral Plane spring tour. The Memphis based songwriter has a sound that is deeply rooted in Appalachian folk tradition, blues, gospel and soul. A truly unique songwriter and musician, June has swiftly risen through the ranks of the national scene and steadily gained a vast following of fans and peers alike after her 2017 release The Order of Time. She has worked and played alongside members of The Black Keys, Dave Matthews Band, Old Crow Medicine Show, Booker T Jones and more. Songwriter and frontman of The Whigs, Parker Gispert, will provide additional support.

Just a few days later, outlaw country songwriting legend Steve Earle will return to Ardmore as a stop on his spring tour in support of his most recent album, Guy. A stunning and masterfully created tribute to one of his two main songwriting mentors, Guy pays homage to Texas songsmith Guy Clark, a musician that Earle met early on in his career and had a lifelong impact on his creative output. Guy could be considered a follow up to Earle’s 2009 release of Townes, which paid tribute to his other mentor Townes Van Zandt. Steve Earle & The Dukes are taking these new songs out on the road and will be at the Ardmore Music Hall on May 6 with support from The Mastersons.

On May 9, Americana singer-songwriter Colter Wall will keep the country theme alive at Ardmore. A young up-and-comer on the national folk and country scene out of Nashville by way of Saskatchewan, Canada, Wall has captivated audiences with his unique blend of country, folk, and Americana rock. With a sound reminiscent of the classic Southern stylings of Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Gram Parsons, and Willie Nelson, it’s no question how he has become a beloved musician so quickly. His songs have even been featured in the soundtrack of television shows like Dog The Bounty Hunter and in award-winning movies, most notably 2018’s 3 Billboards Outside Ebbings, Missouri.

The next night, we welcome nationally recognized folk/Americana lyricist in John Paul White. Most notably, White was one half of the 4 time Grammy award winning duo The Civil Wars until their break up in 2014. After a short break, White returned to a strong solo career with his 2016 release “Beulah,” and will be setting out on a tour in support of his most recent effort “The Hurting Kind” set to be released this month on April 12. White will be supported by Nashville singer-songwriter Erin Rae on May 10.

The following week, midwestern pianist and songwriter Lissie will stop by on her tour in support of her brand new album “When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective” on May 15. For Lissie, her past - the last decade or so, to be specific - is something still very much alive and open to interpretation and rephrasing. With the approaching release of  “When I’m Alone” the singer is poised to show listeners that her past is hardly static, that the songs she wrote nearly 10 years ago are still fresh and vibrant, evoking feelings old and new.

Formed by brothers Neal and Alan Evans on organ and drums respectively, and tapping guitar master Eric Krasno, Soulive has continued to make waves in the funk and soul scenes from the late 90s to today, gaining much renown for their ability to lay down the groove and becoming the undeniable leaders of contemporary funk fusion.

Their influence can be heard across multiple genres including hip-hop, R&B, Americana and more. Since their formation Soulive has collaborated with the likes of Chaka Khan, Derek Trucks, The Roots, Maceo Parker, and Talib Kweli (just to name a few), as well as recorded an entire album of Beatles covers titled Rubber Soulive.

The outfit has slowed down their touring schedule in recent years to focus on other endeavours - Krasno is currently working on a solo album and Alan has been working more in the studio and with Matador! Soul Sounds; making their return to Ardmore extremely special. 2019 has only been blessed with Bowlive, the group’s multi-night run at the Brooklyn Bowl, and select appearances when the trio can find the time.

Adding some funky flair to this run of shows will be a special guest horn section comprised of trombonist Natalie Cressman and saxophonist James Casey of the Trey Anastasio Band.

Waynard Scheller and Rainbow Full of Sound (RFoS) play Grateful Dead songs, and they’ve been doing so for a while – 300 shows’ worth. But this year’s tour will come with a very special twist: they are going to recreate the Dead’s legendary 1972 tour of Europe, tracing the path of twenty-one shows from England to Denmark to Germany to France to the Netherlands and back to England.

Appropriately, RFoS began as a one-off experiment in 2012 when a gang of Dead Heads decided to play the entire 1980 Radio City Music Hall run. It was so much fun that it took on a life of its own, with a rotating cast that keeps it fresh.

The one consistent link is Waynard, and it makes sense—his commitment to music goes back to a ragtime-piano-playing grandfather, hippie babysitters who brought guitars with them, and then a mom who taught him classics like “Heart and Soul.” By the age of 10 he was playing guitar, and after lessons in voice and theory but almost none in piano, he became so consumed by the Grateful Dead’s Terrapin Station album that for close to a year he’d listen to it before going to school. Things were never quite the same afterward. Soon he switched to keyboards and joined his first Dead-oriented band, Changing Planes.

As a pianist, he was able to get solo work in restaurants, where he amused himself by jamming from American songbook standards like “Over the Rainbow” into, say, “Dark Star.” He took a hiatus from Dead music and spent a decade playing R&B and Motown at corporate gigs and private events with his vocalist sister Sudie, but when she decided to settle down, he happily returned to the jam band world. He fell in with one of the oldest Dead-oriented bands, the former Zen Tricksters of Long Island, and they toured for some time as Jam Stampede. He met John Kadlecik, formerly of Dark Star Orchestra and then Furthur, and worked on three tours with him.

One day he got a call to play a show in a crypt at the Church of the Intercession in Trinity Cemetery, New York City, in the process meeting Zach Nugent (then with Melvin Seals and JGB) and Kenny Brooks (formerly with Bob Weir in RatDog). His name spread around GD circles, and he played with Weir himself in an SF Bay-Area benefit for the Jerry Garcia Foundation called “Imagine There’s No Hunger,” and after hitting it off with him, on several other shows. Working with the Foundation brought him into contact with Hot Tuna’s Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, then another event connected him with Jason Crosby and Grahame Lesh of the Lesh Family Band…and the road goes on.

Bruce Hornsby once remarked that Grateful Dead songs had become “hymns” – in fact, they really are the new canon of traditional American music. Their appeal, Waynard says, is two-fold; there’s the sheer eclectic gumbo of bluegrass, jazz, blues, R&B and you-name-it that is fused into what they did, what the songs represent—but “best of all is the improvisational nature of the music, the opportunity to explore the unknown, to have no earthly idea what will come next, which is the most inspiring part of it.”

It’s a language all its own, one that hundreds of musicians across the country can play—and Dead Heads can dance to. And Waynard and RFoS is a band that’s increasingly going to be reckoned with.

This spring RFoS will have a residency at 118 North in Wayne, playing there on February 6th, March 5th, April 2nd, and May 7th. Tickets are available at www.118northwayne.com

This tour will be sponsored by WhyHunger (www.whyhunger.org), The Hansen Foundation – Enlightened Solutions (www.hansenfoundationnj.org), and Stage Trip Industries (www.stagetrip.net).

The spirit of the Grateful Dead community is alive at the Ardmore Music Hall this winter! The mainstay venue for Philadelphia area Deadheads and more will play host to several Dead-oriented shows throughout the late winter and early spring including Splintered Sunlight, Voodoo Dead ft. Steve Kimock, Grahame Lesh and Cris Jacobs’ Philly Shakedown, and more!

First on the calendar of events on January 23 will be a jam-packed night in celebration of Robert Hunter, the longtime poet and lyrical partner to Jerry Garcia. Headlining the night will be performances by JP & Pappy Biondo of Cabinet, Sean Hoots of Hoots & Hellmouth, Cris Jacobs, and Chris Kasper among a slew of local players including Hezekiah Jones, Mason Porter, Nik Greeley, and Chelsea ViaCava among others, and house band Dead Friends featuring Mikey B, Mike Caroto, Craig Privett, Dean Gorfti and Daniel S. Bower).

The following week on February 5 will be the return of Voodoo Dead, an exciting supergroup project featuring lauded jam guitarist Steve Kimock of Zero and RatDog fame, accompanied by heavyweight funk bassist George Porter Jr of The Meters, guitarist Al Schnier of Moe., Jeff Chimenti of Dead & Company on keys and John Morgan Kimock of Mike Gordon Band on the drums. With each member of the band steeped to the max in the Dead’s catalogue and the fact that Kimock was hailed by Jerry Garcia as being his favorite guitarist, there’s no stone left unturned when Voodoo Dead takes the stage.

No strangers to the stage at 23 East Lancaster Avenue, the Philadelphia area’s premier Grateful Dead tribute Splintered Sunlight will headline their second show of the decade at the Ardmore Music Hall on February 8th.

Closing out the winter will be two very special shows featuring a few more heavy names from the Dead world. Fans of Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band are in for a treat on February 27 when Grahame Lesh and Cris Jacobs host the Philly Shakedown. Bringing in a dual lineup of Lesh and Jacobs supplemented by members of RatDog, The Terrapin Family Band and Midnight North, the Philly Shakedown is locked and loaded to bring a fresh take on the Grateful Dead lexicon.

On March 8, the keepers of the Jerry Garcia Band flame in Melvin Seals & JGB take Ardmore to Grateful Church. Marking their first tour with their new addition of guitarist John Kadlecik of post-Garcia Grateful Dead incarnation Furthur, fans should expect a new level of energy and improvisation that should make JGB’s return to 23 East a cannot miss show!

Tickets for all shows are on sale now at www.ardmoremusic.com

The staff at Ardmore Music Hall is staying active during the COVID-19 pandemic, working hard to keep music top of mind and lift spirits throughout the area. The music venue, located in Ardmore, PA just outside of Philadelphia, has several projects in the works to keep the fan-favorite venue on the radar of music lovers who miss the thrill of the live music experience.

As part of the Love From Philly Virtual Music Festival, Ardmore Music Hall Employees and interns past and present formed The AMH Family Band, producing an incredible cover of “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” by Talking Heads, which can be found on The Ardmore Music Hall YouTube channel. What started as a one-off project has evolved into a full band and a means of staying connected with friends and co-workers during these times of separation. Stay tuned for future releases, which are planned for the near future. If you’d like to support any of these amazing people, there is an active GoFundMe campaign for AMH employee relief, with 100% of proceeds going to staff members who were affected by the venue being dark during the pandemic

In an effort to provide fans with an outlet, Ardmore Music Hall has teamed up with streaming giants NUGS.net to produce a free video re-broadcast series called AMH x NUGS: REWIND. Every Monday and Friday at 6 PM EST, Ardmore Music Hall and NUGS re-broadcast a multi-camera, HD video stream of a show from the AMH archives. These releases can be viewed on both the Ardmore Music Hall Facebook page, as well as on NUGS.tv. The streams utilize virtual tip jars to help support Ardmore Music Hall employees, the musicians, as well as a rotating list of local Philadelphia charities.

Adding another layer to Ardmore Music Hall’s ongoing content releases is their “Live From the Archives” project. The AMH team is mastering live recordings of shows from the over the years, and making them available for sale on the Ardmore Music Hall website. Proceeds from the sales of these live recordings support both the Ardmore Music Hall staff, as well as the artist who performed on the recording. Currently available recordings include local rock legends Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers, as well as Dave Matthews guitarist Tim Reynolds and TR3, among many others. This offering is the first of its kind in Philly region and is something Ardmore Music Hall hopes to continue moving forward.

An important cause that Ardmore Music Hall is passionate about is pushing to save independent venues everywhere. Many are at risk of closing due to the financial impacts of COVID-19 - The National Independent Venue Association is working to help government leaders understand this grave situation, and working to get businesses like Ardmore Music Hall the support they need. Live music fans can help by completing a short form that alerts local legislators about the challenges independent music venues are facing.

About Ardmore Music Hall: Ardmore Music Hall is established as one of the premier landing spots in the Philadelphia area for nationally touring musical acts, and is a rock club with a rich and long history at 23 East. Due to its geographic location on the Main Line, close proximity to the City of Philadelphia (3 miles), and a calendar full of a diverse range of artists, AMH draws from virtually every demographic group in the greater Philadelphia area. Past performers of the venue include George Clinton & P-Funk, The Hooters, Toots & the Maytals, The Psychedelic Furs, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Stanley Clarke, members of the Grateful Dead / The Doors / Phish, Macy Gray, Television, Snarky Puppy, Steve Earle and many more. Ardmore Music Hall, recently named the Best Music Venue on the Main Line by Main Line Today, announced the launch of a brand new logo and online merch store. These changes have been a long time coming but hit at the perfect time as the venue adapts to the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It's so exciting to have a new look that we're proud of, that represents the rich legacy of Ardmore Music Hall and 23 East while also giving us a fresh and classic style as we move forward to the next chapter of our rock club's history in 2021 and beyond.  Our new logo looks phenomenal on all kinds of merchandise that we are thrilled to finally be creating for fans!” said Chris Perella, managing partner of Ardmore Music Hall.

Having a new brand identity and merch options should help solidify the Ardmore Music Hall brand as they move from a venue catering to Philadelphia proper to the national stage. The venue has been at the forefront of streaming, having partnered with streaming giants Nugs.net several years ago, allowing viewers at home to enjoy sold-out shows. Since COVID-19, they have been rolling out a calendar of audienceless streams, available nationally, catering to a world where the consumption of music lives in the digital space, not the physical. “It’s been a challenge, but our amazing team has stepped up, working extremely hard to pivot and offer a new model for music fans. Having this new brand identity and long overdue merch store while putting our name out there on a national scale is perfect timing” says VP of Marketing and Partner Dan DeLozier.

Everyone Orchestra and Conductor Matt Butler have announced the third event in their Virtual Sessions Series, featuring an incredible lineup of prominent women musicians from across the musical map. The FREE performance takes place on Friday, August 14th at 9:30 PM EST and can be viewed on Everyone Orchestra’s Facebook and YouTube pages, along with video partner NUGS.net.The lineup includes:

Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band)

Mimi Naja (Fruition)

Kim Dawson

Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists)

Alana Rocklin (STS9)

Tikyra Jackson (Southern Ave)

Andrea Whitt (Zucchero Fornaciari)

The Virtual Sessions series is a one of a kind production and is the brainchild of Butler, who looked for ways to translate the energy and 100% improvisation of an Everyone Orchestra show into a virtual world where he can’t interact with musicians or fans face to face. To overcome this, Butler needed to re-think his process. “Unlike a regular Everyone Orchestra show, I had to decide on the conducting moves in advance and map out the song. I knew I had to fully simplify the cues I might typically give in a live performance. I also wanted to create a track that gave the musicians ample time to rip long solos and be similar to the beginning of an EO show classic, “Funk in A.” says Butler.

Once the musicians received conducting cues and accompanying tracks from Butler, they were then given the freedom to improvise based on those initial inputs, allowing for something as close to a fully improvised performance as can be expected from musicians coming together virtually from across the country.

The virtual environment added additional challenges, as Butler and production partner Todd Kushnir needed to piece together all the individual musician’s home recordings and sync it to Butler’s conducting to ensure the final product looks seamless. “One thing that’s unique about the outcome is that during a live performance, for the most part, my back is to the audience. In the video, you get to see what is typically saved for just the musicians. It’s like a little behind-the-scenes magic” says Butler.

Says Butler on this particular project. “This is an important lineup for me. I’ve been discussing doing a female-based EO for years and this time in quarantine is making it possible. Women are underrepresented in our industry, and there is room to do better in so many ways, but the bottom line for me is that this group of musicians that we’ve assembled is BAD ASS, some of the best in our scene hands down and I can’t wait to see what we create together!”

To get a taste of what a Virtual Session event is like, here is a clip of “We Got This” from Virtual Session #1.

While this event is free, donations are appreciated, as most musicians have lost their outlet for income until the pandemic eases and they can return to the stage. To help Everyone Orchestra and the amazing musicians participating in the event, donations can be made to:

This year’s bike race course will flow through Suburban Square and feature a straightaway down the center of the shopping district strip. Races begin as early as 8 AM, while the most competitive cyclists can be seen whipping around town in the 2-4:30 PM block. “Suburban Square is honored to be a part of this multifaceted community event that is sure to delight our neighbors as well as introduce Ardmore to those coming to compete or spectate from outside the area,” says Joy Medlock, General Manager of Suburban Square. “Narberth Ambulance deserves the community’s support so it can continue to deliver its best-in-class service. To this end, Suburban Square’s objective is to foster the event’s growth and popularity for years to come.”

“The goal is to bring life back to the area while supporting Narberth Ambulance. This was a difficult year for us all and the race has been so successful in the past that Narberth Ambulance was able to cover 85 percent of the cost of its newest ambulance using only proceeds from the past two years of the event,” said Narberth Ambulance executive director Albert Davey.

Independence Blue Cross and Main Line Health and are each returning to sponsor the race for a fourth straight year. To register or become a sponsor of the event, visit mainlinebikerace.com. The event is supported by the Ardmore Initiative and Ardmore Business Association.

“We are delighted that this event continues to grow and evolve to make Ardmore a destination event each and every summer while simultaneously demonstrating what Narberth Ambulance does all day, every day to support the safety of the communities we serve,” said Narberth Ambulance Chief Christopher Flanagan. “We look forward to collaborating with our partners to make our August 21st Bike Race another great success.”

Ardmore Music Hall’s ownership and management team have joined forces with longtime Philadelphia area concert producers Point Entertainment and Bonfire Entertainment to form Rising Sun Presents. Their team of industry-tested entertainment and hospitality professionals provide booking, marketing, production, ticketing, and operational management services for every kind of live event space. The independent company’s mission is to create holistic event experiences with impeccable production value, intentional atmosphere, warm and detailed staff hospitality, and thoughtfully curated food and beverage programs.

The Rising Sun Presents team draws experience from the local, regional and national live music industry, and their flagship venue, Ardmore Music Hall, continues to be managed by its core leadership group led by operating partner and head talent buyer Chris Perella. RSP honors the legacy of the late Bryan Dilworth’s Bonfire Entertainment through their work with former Bonfire clients Underground Arts and MilkBoy Philly (Philadelphia, PA) with partner Adam Spivak. Additional Rising Sun partners include 118 North (Wayne, PA), and The Colonial Theatre (Phoenixville, PA). They have also joined forces with area restaurants Ripplewood Whiskey & Craft (Ardmore, PA), and The Refectory (Villanova, PA), along with numerous outdoor events, concert series and festivals.

Of the new venture, Perella says: "I'm proud to publicly launch this new chapter with our team. A rising sun is the perfect image to describe who we are–warm, optimistic, and a source of growth. This collective has risen out of the darkness of the pandemic, a time when we all experienced both personal loss and industry turmoil, and we've regrouped and bonded together with strength and hopefulness to bring joy through music and events to our greater Philadelphia community.”

Point Entertainment, started in 2003 by co-owners Rich Kardon and Jesse Lundy, grew out of the award-winning listening room The Point in Bryn Mawr, PA. Since then, they've worked with a diverse group of clients to produce, program and promote concerts, festivals and special events.

Kardon says of Rising Sun Presents: “It was obvious that we all have the same mindset, philosophy and values. It’s a natural fit and we couldn’t be more excited about combining forces.” A partial list of Point’s past and present clients include: The Colonial Theatre, Keswick Theatre, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Eagleview Concerts, and outdoor concert series’ in the Townships of Upper Merion, Lower Merion and East Whiteland.

This summer, Rising Sun Presents produced The Wayne Music Festival and Ardmore’s Rock N’ Ride, annual events that each drew 10,000+ attendees. RSP also won the contract to produce the 36th season of the live music series Concerts Under the Stars, which includes upcoming concerts with Brett Dennen, David Bromberg, and The Wailers. They also produced this season’s Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts and partnered with Our People Entertainment to book summer programming at The Oval XP near the Philadelphia Art Museum.

As the company grows, Rising Sun Presents looks forward to welcoming more music venues and live event producers into their orbit and pursuing their goal of providing the best in live concert entertainment and hospitality to the Philadelphia region and beyond.

Philadelphia rock n’ roll institution The Hooters, best known for their 1980s hits “And We Danced” and “All You Zombies,” will return to Ardmore Music Hall to celebrate the venue’s 10 year anniversary on May 12th and 13th, 2023 for a 2-night run. The 600-capacity independent venue on Philly’s Main Line will offer fans an opportunity to see the band perform songs from their extensive catalog in a decidedly intimate space.

Ticket options include GA, Seated and VIP Booths, and are available beginning at 10am on Friday, November 18th at Ardmore Music Hall’s WEBSITE.

In 2013, The Hooters played opening weekend at the then-newly-named Ardmore Music Hall, the site of the former 23 East Cabaret where the band cut their teeth en route to rock-stardom in the ‘80s. Before that show ten years ago, The Hooters’ Eric Bazilian told The Morning Call’s John J. Moser:

I remember hanging out at the bar there until sunrise, many nights, after we played…There were a lot of venues we played a lot back then that were really pivotal in allowing our audience to develop…The location was great. It was right in the heart of the Main Line, and for city folk who didn’t have cars, there was a train station right there. It was a great venue. And a lot of people played there.

Since that show, Ardmore Music Hall has become one the area’s most revered concert spaces, and has played host to artists such as George Clinton & P-Funk, Toots & the Maytals, The Disco Biscuits, Snarky Puppy, The Psychedelic Furs, Tommy Conwell & the Young Rumblers, and thousands more. The Hooters’ appearance in May 2023 will be part of a year-long celebration of the venue’s 10th anniversary, with more shows and events to be announced in the coming months.

The Hooters were formed in the early-1980s by friends Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian, who first met while attending the University of Pennsylvania. After playing extensively in the local Philadelphia music scene, The Hooters came to national prominence following the release of their 1983 major label debut, Nervous Night, which would sell over 2 million copies in the US alone. They would go on to achieve fame worldwide, and, following a brief hiatus in the 1990s, continue to tour successfully in the US and abroad. Hyman and Bazilian also achieved acclaim as songwriters for other artists, with Hyman scoring a hit with Cyndi Lauper in “Time After Time,” and Bazilian with Joan Osborne’s 1995 classic “One of Us.”
