The First Annual Nolafunk Jazzfest Series, produced by Creative Entertainment Group (CEG), will take place April 27 – May 5, 2012, during the evenings of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Veterans of the frenzied, no-holds-barred music scene that descends upon New Orleans after dark, New York City-based event promoters CEG co-produced the Backbeat Jazzfest Series from 2008 - 2011, booking such luminaries as Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Medeski Martin & Wood, Aaron Neville, Punch Brothers, Booker T, Ghostland Observatory, The Radiators, Gene Ween, and many more.

Under the Nolafunk moniker, CEG honors the musical heroes and spirit of New Orleans in New York
City all year round, producing concerts in the Big Apple featuring many of the Big Easy's finest musicians, such as Dr. JohnKermit RuffinsBig Sam’s Funky Nation, BoneramaEric LindellGeorge Porter Jr., Jon Cleary, Soul Rebels, and many more. In addition, CEG amasses all-star Nola-centric lineups for both the annual Nolafunk Mardi Gras Ball and the annual Nolafunk Summer Jazzfest.

The First Annual Nolafunk Jazzfest Series Inaugural Event will launch at Republic on Friday, April 27 with a lineup that pulls out all the stops. During the second weekend of last year's Jazz Fest, Anders Osborne and his band, the Grateful Dead's Bill Kreutzmann, Little Feat's Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett, and Billy Iuso took the stage at The Temple for the first time ever together with not even one note of rehearsal. What ensued was the stuff of legend-- three hours of Grateful Dead, Little Feat, and Anders Osborne tunes alongside a bevy of thrilling covers. Many in the sold-out crowd hailed it as the best show of Jazz Fest in 2011. Nolafunk will revive this band for one night only, inviting long-time Nolafunk friend Marco Benevento and his band to open the festivities and newer Nolafunk friends ALOto close out the evening.

On Friday, May 4, Republic will play host to Bill Kreutzmann and his Nola-based bandmates in 7 Walkers. The hot new Royal Southern Brotherhood, featuring Cyril Neville and Devon Allman, will open the show, placing a member of the Grateful Dead, a Neville, and an Allman on one jam-packed bill. In addition, Zion Rock Godchaux (son of former Grateful Dead members Keith & Donna Godchaux) will close out the night with his underground electronica-meets-psychedelic rock band BoomBox.

The Nolafunk Jazzfest Series also includes an eagerly-awaited rare appearance of poly-ethnic Cajun “slamgrass” progenitors Leftover Salmon; a Jazzfest return of Latin rock titans Los Lobosa rare late-night appearance featuring very recent Grammy Award winners Rebirth Brass Band; plus Anders Osborne & special guests along with annual fan-favorite Tab Benoit’s “Swampland Jam”; and much more.

All shows in the initial lineup will take place at Republic, apart from one show at the Howlin’ Wolf on April 28 with Leftover Salmon7 Walkers, and Anders Osborne.

All Republic shows go on sale Friday February 17 at noon EST at www.nolafunk.com/nola, Ticketweb.com, and (866) 468-7619. Leftover Salmon, 7 Walkers, and Anders Osborne at the Howlin’ Wolf on April 28 is on-sale now.

As is tradition with Nolafunk’s prior shows in New Orleans as part of the Backbeat Jazzfest Series, all Republic shows will be non-smoking.

No tropical vacation plans this summer? No problem! The Hall at MP and CEG Presents are bringing the Caribbean to Brooklyn through a 12-‐ date Caribbean Jerk & Reggae Festival starting August 4th – September 3rd. This local live music venue in the heart of Williamsburg will be turning out handmade spicy Jamaican beef patties, slow-‐roasted jerk chicken, and braised spicy oxtail under the tutelage of Executive/Owner Michael Psilakis, a Michelin starred chef and cookbook author. Will there be Red Stripe? Yah Mon. Will there be Rum Punch?  Yah Mon.  Are tickets on sale now? Yah Mon.

Featuring the sounds of bands from our own backyard like Brooklyn based The Far East, NYC’s InDaze and Long Island’s Soul Junkies, to national sensations like Challenger, Raj Majesty & The New Vibration, and Top Shotta, the room will be pumping with solid grooves, good vibes, and high energy all month long.

Chef Psilakis and his team have put together a Jamaican-‐inspired feast teeming with Caribbean flavors, spices and dishes that conjure up that island vibe. The house specialty Caribbean Jerk Platter is overflowing with jerk rubbed chicken legs, hot pepper shrimp, Caribbean style rice & peas and tangy stewed cabbage. Coconut Curry Shrimp is peppery on the tongue but creamy on the finish while the Jamaican Hot Pepper Shrimp is scorching with a scotch bonnet sauce. Wash down the savor and spice with house-‐curated Caribbean rum cocktails like a draft Dark & Stormy infused with freshly pressed ginger juice and dark rum and the Pain Killer, a surprisingly sweet cream of coconut-‐based drink spiked with dark rum and citrus. And it goes without saying that plenty of ice-‐cold beers like Red Stripe and Carib will be flowing.

Tickets are on sale now at www.thehallbrooklyn.com/events and can also be purchased at the door pending availability (cash only at the door.) The 6th Annual Nolafunk Series During Jazz Fest announces a special theme to the upcoming VooDoo Dead show at Republic NOLA on Sunday, May 7th. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s legendary show at Cornell University’s Barton Hall on May 8th, 1977, VooDoo Dead featuring Steve Kimock (The Other Ones), Jackie Greene (Phil & Friends, The Black Crowes), George Porter Jr.(The Meters), Jeff Chimenti (of Dead & Co.), and JM Kimock (Mike Gordon Band), will perform a New Orleans-influenced tribute to this universally-acclaimed, standout performance with special guests Oteil Burbridge (The Allman Brothers Band, Dead & Co.) & Papa Mali. After selling out their five night Northeast run in February, Voodoo Dead steamrolls to New Orleans with tremendous momentum.

There are a few different reasons why the Grateful Dead’s 5/8/77 show at Cornell University is widely considered a standout performance, with its serendipitous timing playing a major role. The show at Barton Hall happened just months before the release of their legendary album, Terrapin Station, so at that time a few timeless tracks like “Terrapin Station,” and “Estimated Prophet” were already introduced into heavy rotation. In 1973, founding Grateful Dead member Ron ‘Pigpen’ McKernan had passed away, so while the time proceeding his departure was special in its own right, the band took a hiatus and only played four total shows in 1975. So after taking some time off to recollect and write new music, the Grateful Dead were in true peak form come the Spring of 1977, and the band delivered from start to end at Barton Hall on May 8th.

The Nolafunk Series During Jazz Fest features a diverse collection of special performances from musicians inside and out of the New Orleans cultural sphere; however they all embrace the spirit and essence of the city. The series has preserved its tradition of unique lineup pairings, combining older and younger musicians, as well as national acts with local legends.

Under the Nolafunk moniker, Manhattan-based CEG honors the musical heroes and spirit of New Orleans in New York City year round, producing concerts in the Big Apple featuring many of the Big Easy's finest musicians, such as Dr. John & the Nite Trippers, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave, Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins and many more. In addition, CEG amasses all-star Nola-centric lineups for both the annual Nolafunk Mardi Gras Ball and the annual Nolafunk Summer Jazzfest. CEG & Nolafunk have had a long history producing shows in New Orleans since 2007.

In late January, legendary Vermont quartet Phish shocked the jam community by announcing an unprecedented 13-night run at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. From July 21 to August 6, music enthusiasts from across the globe will flood into New York City to pack the 19,000 capacity arena for the inaugural “Baker’s Dozen” rock and roll extravaganza.

For many years, whenever Phish performs its annual multi-night run between Christmas and New Year’s, New York City-based promoters CEG Presents organize a series of Phish After-Parties which have included acts such as Snarky Puppy, Turkuaz, New Mastersounds, Dopapod, Marco Benevento, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Marcus King Band and many more. This summer, CEG’s Phish After-Party series will return to Manhattan with what will promise to be its best series lineup to date.

With its first announcement, CEG is happy to present three nights of Twiddle, another Vermont-based phenomenon. Twiddle will perform three consecutive nights at the renowned Irving Plaza July 20 - 22. The July 20 show, which is not a Phish After-Party, will feature two sets of Twiddle plus hot up-and-coming opening band Madaila.

Psych pop juggernaut Madaila is upbeat, synth-heavy, and catchy. Vocal skill and range are immediately apparent. But in the tradition of Prince and more recently Frank Ocean, an ornateness and heaviness expose Madaila's complexity and depth. Tight arrangements and multi-instrumental performances showcase musical minds at work.

There will be many more Phish after-party and pre-party announcements from CEG in the coming weeks. Stay tuned at www.phishafterparties.com and www.cegpresents.com

Pre-sale tickets will go on sale for CEG Presents email subscribers on Wednesday April 5 at 12pm. Fans can register for the email list at http://cegpresents.com/ to be sent a pre-sale access code to purchase advance tickets. Tickets will be made available to the general public this Friday April 7 at 12pm EST.
