Daniel Rodriguez, a founding member and lead songwriter of Colorado transcendental folk band Elephant Revival, releases his debut single as a solo artist today, “Steal The Night Away”. “Steal The Night Away” is the first single to be released from a forthcoming 2019 album and is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music. The release of the single accompanies the start of Rodriguez’s fall tour as main support for Portland band Fruition. Tour dates below.

With over a decade under his belt with Elephant Revival, Rodriguez is well-versed in the Americana tour circuit. Before going on hiatus, after their third headlining Red Rocks show in May 2018, Elephant Revival had released six albums and performed countless shows and festivals across the nation as well as overseas.

Needing to fill the musical void that might have become following Elephant Revival’s hiatus announcement, Rodriguez almost immediately headed out on tour as a solo artist. In addition to Fruition, he’s been chosen as main support for bands such as Mandolin Orange, Josh Ritter, John Craigie, and Birds of Chicago, and he has also performed at numerous festivals throughout the summer.

As a solo musician, Daniel Rodriguez, turns to his acoustic guitar for memorable, melodic hooks to accompany his poetic and contemplative folk songs. Boulder Weekly refers to Rodriguez’s voice as “a timeless folk voice, deep and hearty, weathered but comforting.”

Rodriguez wrote “Steal The Night Away” as an expression of the emotional journey he embarked on in the wake of a decade-long romantic relationship. “It expresses needing a sense of freedom while still desiring human contact. It comes from a place of wanting friendship, reflection, and counsel, without being placed or placing others in a box of expectations or projections. It’s a song about radical truth and being clear about your needs. It’s about helping and allowing others to become a more genuine version of themselves. It’s ultimately about exploration without judgment, and of course, kissing without contracts,” says Rodriguez.

“Steal The Night Away” features Fruition’s rhythm section: Tyler Thompson on drums and Jeff Leonard on bass; Lewi Longmire with “some integral and tasty guitar hooks,” as described by Rodriguez; Darren Garvey with his vocal harmonies, percussion, and synthesizer; and Erik Deutsch on organ.

The Proxy is a collaboration between members of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (Alex Ebert, Nico Aglietti) and Elephant Revival (Bonnie Paine, Bridget Law, Dango Rose, Darren Garvey) to support Proxy.Vote--A new, more democratic way to express the will of the people, powered by social and legislative technology that enables voters to organize and tell their elected representatives how to vote in real-time.

About the event:

The debut appearance of “The Proxy” at The Fox Theatre on Monday, October 22nd is being presented by Proxy.Vote—A new, more democratic way to express the will of the people, powered by social and legislative technology that enables voters to organize and tell their elected representatives how to vote in real-time. By proxy, this show is also highlighting the congressional campaign of Nick Thomas because of his pledge to use the Proxy.Vote platform. Colorado Rising is also in support of the show because of the unified commitment between the performing artists and the independent candidate to Vote Yes on Proposition 112. Proposition 112 is a statewide ballot initiative to protect public health and safety from fracking by establishing 2,500-foot buffer zones between oil and gas operations and occupied buildings such as homes, schools and other vulnerable areas such as water sources and playgrounds. Nick Thomas is the only congressional candidate in Colorado to endorse Proposition 112. Last but not least, this one of a kind performance is also being presented by Westword and Twist & Shout Records.

About the music:

The night will begin with Jules Schroeder of Unconventional Life, whose original songs and vocal prowess walk the line somewhere between Adele, Little Feat, and Abstract Soul. Alex Ebert and Nico Aglietti of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will follow with a duo performance to close out the first set of music.

The second set will begin with members of Elephant Revival, led by Bonnie Paine, playing a diverse mix from deep within the band’s repertoire and will end with Jules, Alex, and Nico returning to stage to transform the performance into round robin affair of fan favorites from each bands’ respective catalogues.

In his second single as a solo musician, Daniel Rodriguez explores a sound different from his offerings in Colorado folk band Elephant Revival. “Johnny” features a dramatic and mysterious Latin groove, courtesy of special guests Tyler Thompson and Jeff Leonard of Fruition, Darren Garvey of Elephant Revival, Sam Trump of Sidewalk Chalk, and Lewi Longmire. “Johnny” is the second single to be released from Rodriguez’s upcoming EP release, out February 15, 2019.

“The story in the song follows Johnny, who steps outside the box of society, the neighborhood block, the bounds of pavement, electric wires and cell phone towers. It’s a getting lost is being found kind of song,” Rodriguez tells The Bluegrass Situation.

“Johnny” is out now and can be heard in its December 13 premiere in The Bluegrass Situation as well as on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Catch Daniel Rodriguez on tour with Fruition at the adjoining ends of 2018 and 2019. Tour dates below.

Singer-songwriter Daniel Rodriguez releases of his debut collection of music as a solo artist on a five-song EP titled, Your Heart The Stars The Milky Way. Rodriguez speaks of these new songs being his emotional response to the end of a 14-year relationship with a bandmate in Elephant Revival, a transcendental folk band who 5280 Magazine describes as “a pioneer and mainstay of the Colorado music scene” and who has since announced its hiatus. Of Rodriguez’s new music, 5280 Magazine says “the songs are built on the poetry and warm croon [he] has a reputation for, but they also contain a vulnerability that lends credence to the notion that pain can fuel art.” Your Heart The Stars The Milky Way is available to stream on major services here. Daniel Rodriguez is headed back on tour in March with Steve Poltz. Tour dates below.

Special guests include Jay Cobb Anderson of Fruition on vocals and slide guitar on “Back Roads”, Thomas LaFond of Banshee Tree on vocals on “Back Roads”, and Eric Deutsch of Leftover Salmon on organ on “Steal The Night Away”.

Not long after introducing his debut EP as a solo musician in February, Daniel Rodriguez officially releases his new single, “Colorado”. Colorado has been home to Rodriguez for over a decade during his career with Elephant Revival, and his song, “Colorado”, is an ode to the feeling of comfort when homeward-bound. The song may already sound familiar to listeners of local radio stations around his home state, as Rodriguez wanted his community to have a first listen. Starting today, “Colorado” is also available to stream on all major services. Rodriguez has a number of shows both at home and on the road this spring and summer, including renowned festivals such as Northwest String Summit and Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. Tour dates are below.

With over a decade under his belt with Elephant Revival, a transcendental folk band who 5280 Magazine describes as “a pioneer and mainstay of the Colorado music scene” and who announced its hiatus in 2018, Rodriguez is well-versed in the Americana tour circuit. After their third headlining Red Rocks show in May 2018, Elephant Revival had released six albums and performed countless shows and festivals across the nation as well as overseas.

Since the hiatus announcement, Rodriguez has been touring as a solo artist with bands such as Fruition, Mandolin Orange, Josh Ritter, John Craigie, Steve Poltz, and Birds of Chicago, all while building up a repertoire of songs, some of which he released as an EP on February 15, 2019, Your Heart The Stars The Milky Way.

As a solo musician, Daniel Rodriguez turns to his acoustic guitar for memorable, melodic hooks to accompany his poetic and contemplative folk songs. Boulder Weekly refers to Rodriguez’s voice as “a timeless folk voice, deep and hearty, weathered but comforting.”

“Colorado” features Andrew Marlin of Mandolin Orange, Natalie Padilla, Daniel McMahon, Carolyn Hunter, and Darren Garvey.
